Aww... That really sucks that they didn't respond However, you are the stronger person, you showed love, compassion and forgiveness despite the bridge that divides you.

How much of a role in Brainwashing did the songs actually play?
by KW13 inthose haunting words...those out of tune dubs...wailing...moanin...then i wake up :p lol i am kidding, but i remember 'snippets' of a lot of songs, all of which focused on me being submissive (for example song number 8, my favourite as a child dub).
does singing help brainwash sheep?

I'll bet it contributes... Listening to music uses the right hemisphere of your brain (the creative side), this could potential cause the rational side of your brain to lose focus. Sooo... they play the pretty music, your brain is focused on the pretty sounds and you don't really focus in on the repetitive lyrics, although they are being programmed in your brain!!!!!
Umm, I kind of sound like a conspiracy theorist with that one, but I still think it might have some merit!

Loss of hope
by Newborn inhow do you deal with the fact that you no longer have the hope as jw does?.
i've difficulties reconciling with the fact of growing old etc.
and not knowing what will happen.... thanks.

Hi, I've never been a JW, but because you're leaving them doesn't mean an end to hope... If you still believe in God, then there is still hope for eternal life, see Isaiah 46:3-4... Now the aging thing... No way around that, it sucks

Alright... Looks like there is some interest... Anyone else there who'd consider it? What would be the best city to hold it in?

A@G has a very good point... Have any of you thought of having a large-scale apostevent? Perhaps you could ask Mr Franz if he would be your guest of honour. It would be a fitting tribute. Find a hotel with a big ballroom, get a block of rooms, I would suggest you plan it a few months in advance to give people the opportunity to save up. Hotels are hurting right now, so it's easier to negotiate good rates.

Speaking as a worldy... My birthday this year was depressing too... Actually, I was in Bible Study at the time, and I thought the whole not celebrating birthdays seemed pretty good... I don't want any more birthdays
This too shall pass!

Hi, I'm new
by Diva inhi, this is my first post but ive been lurking around this discussion board for some time now.
my husband (the borg) occasionally posts and i had the pleasure of meeting some great people at the apostofest in covent garden, london last year arranged by bestie and sweetpea , hi to you both and hi to freetothink, mr majestic and everyone that was there hope youre all ok.. my story in a nutshell: raised a jw from birth, my whole family, expect one brother and sister (disfellowshipped) are still jws - basically i was raised in a family who were considered one of the pillars of the congregation, we all pioneered and did the whole witness thing, in fact one of my sisters is a missionary.
my whole jw world crumbled when i learnt about the jw/un connection and from that moment on there was no turning back.

Help/Advice
by andrrea ini've been lurking here for a while, reading and learning.. i'm not jw, nor have i ever been.
recently however, my younger brother (he's 25 years old) began dating a girl (she's 27) who is jw.
she has succeeded in completely converting him, to the point where any discussion about jw turns into a screaming match.

Hi there... I firmly believe the best defence is a good offence. With that in mind, do your research... Get Crisis of Conscience by Raymond Franz, it will help you understand the organizational structure of the Jehovah's Witnesses. Go to the many internet websites that discuss their beliefs. I would also suggest a subtle approach as opposed to the in your face method. Ask leading questions that will make him think. You want to encourage critical thought, by putting down the JW's beliefs you are putting him on the defence and this is making him put up a brick wall to what you are trying to say.
