Awww - I kinda like Ned. Don't you think he is more self-deluded than self-righteous? I never get the impression that he thinks he's above anyone else. Just in ignorant bliss.

{The Simpsons} = Did you know any "Ned Flanders" types in your Hall?
by Witness 007 inus brothers would be having a conversation about sports and this brother "flanders" would always start a spiritual conversation: "on a sunny day like this i just want to thank jehovah for my blessings....i wish we had meetings everyday....i feel bad i didn't go witnessing this weekend.
" .
many times i wanted to strangle him!...his wife left him and the truth, since then he is worse..

Do the JW's really and truly believe that the end is near?
by TooBad TooSad inif the jw's really believe what the witchtower babble and trick society says about.
the end being so close, do their actions betray what they preach?
if you knew that your house.

Oh, how those were praise from the podium whose faith moved them to sell all their belonging and preach, preach, preach as '75 approached! It's funny how fast that these ones who were "full of faith" quickly were labled "weak in faith" when the reality of no New System, no possessions, no job, no home, hit many of those poor disillustioned souls!
I was in my teens, still studying, not yet baptised when 1976 rolled around. My teacher emphesized over and over how the WTS never came right out and said that the New System would arrive by then. (Although, they couldn't have suggested it any stronger!) Her faith didn't seem to be shaken, so mine wasn't either. But no one else in my family took up the religion. (I guess they weren't as gullible as I was.)

From innocent to...
by mind my own inhow many of you initally checked out this site for completely innocent reasons?
just stumbed across it and couldnt' stop reading, or to see what was being read with the intent of setting us or someone else in your life straight?
then b/c of what you read you could no longer buy into the whole jw fraud and left the org or are in the process of leaving?

I found the forum when I was recently looking for an ex-jw support site. Although I'd been away from the WTS for a number of year, and really felt that I was doing fine, my ex-husband suddenly passed away unexpectedly, and that put me in touch with all his uber-dubber family, and other JW friends who were around to help deal with his passing, which of course, dredged up a whole lot of yucky feelings and memories for me.
When I first hit this site, I thought it was actually a pro-JW site. It didn't take me long to figure it though! Although, it makes me sad to see so many that are sort of "stuck" in the grieving, there is a tremendous amount of support here. It has helped me to continue to heal and move on. I've gained a lot of enlightenment in just a few months.

Were you forced to resign from your church before getting baptized a JW?
by Thechickennest ininterestingly, after i left the witnesses after 25 years, i found out that i was still a member of our local methodist church!
i just picked up and went on again as a methodist......i never resigned.
does this mean that technically i was never really was a jw because i did not resign from my church before getting baptized as jw?

Oh, if it was only that easy to erase those 25 years! But be careful - if anyone finds out, they might try to nullify your JW baptism, which means you are fresh meat to be converted! (Just kidding.)

Did you help clean the Kingdom Hall, yard work, maintenance?
by Thechickennest inat one hall i attended for serveral years had a lawn covering large man-made burms with trees and bushes.
it was a difficult yard to mow and maintain.
i have often wondered why we all pitched in and worked so hard for nothing.

I even bothered to show up for our BS turn to clean when I was df. I was suprised that I was asked to leave, because the elder felt that cleaning was more "social" than worship. But since I had set the time aside, and had driven down to the hall, I asked if it'd be alright if I picked up around the grounds. (Everyone else was working indoors.) He said that would be OK. So I did. Then left without going back inside.
It was their lose when they decided I didn't deserve re-instatement.
THANK GOD!

If Jw hate being a part of the world so much, why do they try...
by jetery inwhen i was a witness i remember asking one of the elders if it would be alright to donate to different causes/charities like the american cancer society,st judes hospital etc.
he told me that these organizations only provide temporary relief whereas god kingdom would provide permanent relief.
) he was so down on these organizations but yet when he needed them for help he sure didnt hesitate to ask them.

he told me that these organizations only provide temporary relief whereas god kingdom would provide permanent relief. he also said the best way that i could help these people is by preaching to them
JWs additude toward helping organizations is like that of the people in the scriptures that said that they couldn't help their elderly parents because their funds were dedicated to something holy - It's just an excuse not to do the right thing.

Not Born-in, Not converted as adult. The In-Betweens
by Lady Lee ini think some of us get lost somewhere in the middle.. my kids knew nothing else but the jw lifestyle.
they could only guess what holidays were like.. my jw husband converted when he was 20 an adult...a young adult but still an adult.
he wasn't influenced by his parents.

Believe it or not, and you’re going to gag when I say this, but I welcomed religion into my life. Although so little, I drew to it like white on rice. I had such a spiritual desire. No longer celebrating the holidays wasn’t an issue ...I loved taking that stand, “knowing” it was pleasing God. I know you’re all dry heaving right now.
That was me, too Song 19. By the way, my song was 88 (from the old song book.) "Living in Integrity" I think it was. "Oh judge me Lord, My Lord, Jehovah God, for in righteousness I've walked, and in integrity I've trod...."
I really meant it. Of course the song was based on a Psalm, which I'm sure the writer truly meant, as well.
Oh well. Even though being a JW meant nothing special to God, our love for Him, did.

I was about 11. I'll give my parent's credit. They didn't force it on us. We all studied, and as a family took a vote. They made a point of assuring us that we would still have "special" times. I remember the week of our first "missed" Christmas. We kids awoke to a present for each of us at the bottom of our beds. Ice skates! We really cherished those, living in Alaska! (I think that was the last time we were given a present for no special reason!)
Interestingly, my folks never became JWs. But they still used it as an excuse not to have B-days and X-mas! (Saved alot of money with 6 kids!) I was the only one that got baptised. Years later, one of my sisters also did. Neither of us are JWs now, though.
My kids were raised as JWs until their pre-teens. My youngest saiys that it really bothers him that he doesn't have any sense of the magical feeling that holidays should arouse.

And what's up with Uzzah being struck dead for trying to catch the ark? I guess he should have let it hit the ground and all the holiness fall out??
It is my understanding that the ark was built in such a way that it conducted electricity. Uzzah got zapped, God got blamed. (Probably to same thing happened when the bears attacked.)
