Do the JW's really and truly believe that the end is near?

If the JW's really believe what the Witchtower Babble and Trick Society says about

the end being so close, do their actions betray what they preach? If you knew that your house

was going to burn down next year wouldn't you take the necessary steps to protect your

property and the lifes of your loved ones? If you knew that next year a dam near your home

was going to break wouldn't you take steps to safe lives and property? If the JW's really

believe what the Washcloth Dribble and Trick or Treat Society is saying about the nearness of

the Great Tribulation, why don't they quit their jobs and preach full time? Why not sell their

homes and live in a camper and go preach in areas of the nation where there are no Witnesses?

How many are dropping thier life insurance? If this is too extreme, why aren't all of the JW's

preaching all day on Saturday or Sunday. Why not cancel the ministry school and service

meeting and everyone go out and preach because the end is so close?

I guess that I am just tired of thinking about what I believed in for most of my life and how

I was lied to and all of the false hopes that were drilled into my brain.

    AH!@@@!!!

My husband and I talk about this ALOT!!!

IF the end was so near, and they BELIEVED It....

-they would go out in service EVERY EVENING when people were HOME

-they would have some kind of billboards, radio, TV, ways to reach the masses, cuz house to house isn't cuttin it

-they would NOT be going to college, without question!

    - you would NOT buy a house, get a mortgage

    - NOT have kids!

-NOT go on vacation for fear it would start when you're far from home!!

the list is endless really... it's obvious the answer

    New Light,

What a great idea for them to buy bill boards along the highway or to use the

internet to reach the people in China and India. Why doesn't the WTBTS spend

some of the millions they have stashed away, unless the end is not near and

they are trying to scare the flock into more service to get more money.

The end IS near!! But it could still take a while depending on how you perceive time.

I think that almost all JWs have doubts. I have regularly heard the comment "even if the NS does not come, it was the best way of life", indicating this thought does cross minds. A JW constantly balances the cognitive dissonance that there is enough to indicate it may not be true, but that they need to justify why they remain involved.

We'll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgement of all wrongThey decide and the shotgun sings the song

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around me
Pick up my guitar and play
    Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
    We don't get fooled again
The change, it had to come
    We knew it all along
We were liberated from the foe, that' all
And the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed'Cause the banners, they all flown in the next war

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around me
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterdayThen I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled againNo, no!

I'll move myself and my family aside
If we happen to be left half alive
I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky
For I know that the hypnotized never lie

    Do ya?
    YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

    There's nothing in the street
Looks any different to meAnd the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Is now the parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around me
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterdayThen I'll get on my knees and pray
    We don't get fooled again
    Don't get fooled again
    No, no!

    YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Yet, except for the WT ranting about the "end," there is no evidence that JWs take it seriously. I was a JW during the 1975 debacle, but except for a lot of excited chatting about how near the great tribulation and Armageddon were, no one took any exceptional action to step up their preaching (aka book sales), except for a very few who pioneered for a while (about 5 in a congregation of about 90).

TBTS, your point demonstrates that people become JWs for reasons other than humanitarian concern for others. And that makes them hypocrites of the highest order.

TooBad TooSad, You had some good points. It might be a good idea to ask,"Do you believe the end is close?" when they call. If they say "Yes." Then ask them some of the questions you had. I think I will try this if I ever get the chance.
