  Went to a Different Kind of Convention This Year

  my old congregation's regional convention was the week before last, and for the first time in 20 years, i wasn't there.

  instead on the very same weekend, i went to a geeky fan convention called magic city con.

  i had loads of fun there, i cosplayed as a jedi and the doctor (which is my current profile pic).

  great news, how great attending a convention because you genuinely want to be there rather than going somewhere that is just a waste of time and your energy, like every single WT convention that has ever been held

  Kingdom Ministry Detailed Service Reports vs Field Service Highlights.

  why did the watchtower eliminate the detailed service report (last report dec. 2008) and replace it in jan. 2009 with the field service highlights?

  Comparing Total Numbers Baptized During the 1990s and the Last Ten Years:

  sometimes, comparing raw numbers provides a more clear-cut numerical picture of growth or otherwise than percentages.

  below are the numbers for peak publishers (rounded off so that 4,1 represents more than 4,100,000) for each year throughout the 1990s and those for the last ten years.. year: peak* baptisms.

  they constantly contradict themselves rather stupidly with quotes like " the love of the greater number would cool off" and " the tiniest group becoming a mighty nation etc, plus the "the entire world would know about the kingdom of god that only they have been commissioned to dispense" which becomes more of a joke every day the world wide population grows even more, and the huge continued growth of Islam, its either one thing or another, one thing that cant be overlooked is their terrible growth rates in first world nations, no amount of creative accounting can deny this.

  Jupiter protects the earth... another example of intellectual dishonesty and an argument against design

  i'm taking a university astronomy course, and i must say it's really fun to read about this field.

  anyway, i remember the jws used to use jupiter (and probably still do) as an example for how unique and special our solar system is (and thus designed) -- namely, that jupiter protects the earth from astroids, comets, and meteors.

  convincing if one doesn't know any better, especially circa 1994 when jupiter stepped in front of a comet for us... but this isn't the full story!

  we have been told there's no place else to go.

  and to some degree mentally speaking, that is true especially if you were raised in the religion.

  at 50 i was out of the organization's clutches.

  no! I lasted far less time than I thought I would , baptised in 1988 aged 22 (born in) and for I time I felt quite content and was in for the long haul, the marriage cracks first ( married in 1990) and my own doubts put me on a fade in which I was never going to recover from

  Are JWs "mind trained" to be habitual liars?

  i don't mean overly obvious, or otherwise meaning to cause harm, but taught to lie for the purpose of avoidance.

  this type of lying can be pervasive in areas of life that are not just to avoid discussions with people who have questions about the jw, etc.

  my husband will lie/be deceitful about the silliest, simple things.

  why do ones that have faded and been out for years return?

  still a very very small minority though, I could list many many that have left and never gone back
