i am wondering if an elder's wife cheated on him, is it possible that he can remain as an elder?
I recall in the 1980's an Elder had an affair with another Elders wife. They were both disfellowshipped.
They divorced their wfe and husband. Married each other. Couple of years later both reinstated.
A year after that he was appointed an Elder again.
i remember with some jw family's during prayer every one would hold hands around the table.
i think it is like a cult or some pagan practice.
now that i am out of the box looking in, i find this practice weird.
I used to see couples and families do it in the Kingdom Hall.
Also have seen Christians do it in church and at meals.
Whats so weird about it?

when i was an elder many moons ago, the wt came out with it's free literature change to aviod taxes, before that it was encouraged that all congregations pay for all litterature in stock instead of the wt doing so.. this no doubt was done to make it more profitable for the wt and in antisipation of a loss in the tax case with swagert and the state of california of which the wt was envovled.. this in my estimation was a big blunder as many congregations were not paying enough in contributions to pay for the literature they now recieved free.
the case in my congregation i'm sure was typical of congs everywhere as the poorer friends used it as an opportunity to stock up and get some of the more expensive books that would complete thier libraries at home and in the process failed to give the needed contributions for literature.. in my congregation the co gave instructions to the lit servant not to get these more exspencive items for those that looked like they wouldn't contribute enough, this put an unecasarry burden on the lit servant to be the bad guy, and he came to me and i told him order anything the friends want and not to deny anybody it is not your responciblity to decide,, let the society decide if they want to.
as i felt this to be wrong and put the ms in the place of judge as to who gets literature and who don't depending on ability to contribute.. well it seems years latter now this has been a real source of finacial loss for the wt(yeah!).
I was Literature Servant when this "donation" scheme was brought in.
I and the Accounts Servant straight away could see that it would lose money.
But of course the Elders wouldn't believe it. The brothers will be honest and pay up etc.
Sure enough about a year later when doing an audit. It became obvious that the amount of literature going out was not being met by the amount of money coming in.

I had a letter today from a fading JW friend. He mentions the Watchtower article on what JWS did after Katrina. This is what he wrote:
BTW have you seen the Watchtower on New Orleans. I have a 25% share on a fishing lodge house on the Bayou 10 miles out of New Orleans and I know the area well. The witnesses are absolutly hated by the charity people there, they cannot stand them. They won't help in the general rebuilding, the brothers they help out are treated badly and they make a huge song and dance about everything - the Lutherens, Scientists and Catholics just get on with it and see it as helping the community. well, i've had a bit of an unpleasant couple of weeks.. however, in contemplating what happened i realised how grateful i am to the people who have helped me and so i'll tell you what happened.. we, in the uk, here a lot of not so good things about our nhs dentists.
the governement also do not give them the respect and pay they deserve though i am sure there are, as always, some not so good ones amongst them.. here is what happened to me.
about ten days ago i needed to have an old root canalled tooth out as it had been repeatedly getting infected.. the dentist pulled it out, with some difficulty as it had odd shaped roots.

I agree with you the NHS has its bad side, but mainly it damn good.
Last year I had dental work done and paid the maximum you do as a NHS patient which was £190. (aprrox $95)
The problem with the dentists goes back to the founding of the NHS in 1948, for some reason they didn't included dentistry in the original set up.

One of the things about the resurrection that puzzled me was the following.
According to Watchtower teaching when a person dies according to scripture they had paid the penalty for sin "the wages of sin is death"
Therefore this surely would mean a resurrected person would be sinless in the New System, because they had paid the penalty already.
But those who survive through Armageddon would still carry sin, this would not be removed until the end of the 1,000 years of Christs reign on earth. When he will have completed all things etc.
So who is the superior one? The one without sin or the one who still carries sin.
In the New System would it be right for a sinless person to take orders or direction from someone who still had sin?

i found this interesting and came across this article from the 78 wt.
Those articles in 72 and 78 Watchtowers may have led to the "independant thinking" of some brothers.
Then by 1980's the GB must have realised what was happening and that brothers were actually doing it.
They then began back-pedalling. Trying to make out that what they really meant was that brothers didn't have the "ability" to make "spiritual decisions" for themselves. That was the perogative of the Faithful and Discreet Slave.
This can be seen in this years conventions and the emphasis on obeying the Watchtower. And the release of the book "Keeping in Gods Love" which is basically just a manual onhow JWs should behave and obey the WT.

True that many JWs are starting to change their feelings about the WT but dare they do it so openly especially if they were a DO and CO.
