To me this worship of the GB was the greatest source of dissonance that led me to break free. Every prayer, every WT article, and most talks keep mentioning the GB to the point that the GB was actually being worshipped. Deep down it felt so wrong.

The Gradual Change From Worshiping Jehovah To The Worship Of the Governing Body
by frankiespeakin ini first began my misadventures with jehovah's witnesses in 1972 as a youth(18 years old) and was baptised in that same year.
i was young inexperienced and they caught me at a low point when i was weak and looking for god to solve problems.
being raised as a catholic and going to all the religious indoctrination up to the point of confirmation, i guess you could say i was indoctrinated from birth to believe a certain way which left me vulnerable to the jw propaganda.. fast foreword to the time of my departure in 2001 february.. for a couple of years (late 90s) before i left i started noticing out right lies in the wt publications about their history and the luster that these magazines used to have started to fade rapidly also around that time i really began to notice the gobs and gobs of praise they were bestowing on the organization and the representative members of the so called faithful & discrete slave(gb).

Song Book changes - the 'real' reason behind them - EYE OPENING
by EndofMysteries init's very interesting comparing things that are removed.
for one, new world order and new world, new order, all being eliminated from everything.
just research nwo, "new world order", etc, to see.

This is great! Although with your comment:
I don't know how any of my family will be able to sit back and ignore this.
I bet 99% of people will never notice any change. The whole point is for subtle brainwashing. What I do hope though is that it will add to the dissonance of people who (like me 2 years ago) feel more and more worship of the GB.

The Day I had an Epiphany
by journey-on inmy eyes opened in more ways than one.
as i lay in bed that sunday morning, i knew i was never again going to rise hurriedly to get myself and the kids dressed and fed for field service.
i was actually feeling relieved and wanted to just turn over and go back to sleep, certain and content in my decision.. the day before, i had stood at the end of the block, after working a territory filled with barking dogs and people sleeping in after a hard days work week, and thinking, "never again".

I remember my last day. Was on return visits, and the lady said "I don't agree with your doctrine". I guess my mind was ready for the awakening, but the thought of our belief just being "a doctrine" really changed how I viewed the faith. I completely stopped going to meetings only a few months after that.

If JWs were REALLY interested in saving people, they would AVOID talking to people about the bible! That way the people would at least be able to survive Armageddon and live in the "paradise on earth"..
Elsewhere! I successfully used this with my wife too! Basically you'd have more success to save people by NOT preaching, because they would be resurrected and given a chance, versus 'marking' everyone to death.

I used this argument to convince my wife (successfully!) about how this is a cult. I would say how if this is TRULY the end, why isn't the society doing more than just preaching as it is. Why no radio ads, tv ads, billboards, internet advertisements? Why aren't people selling their assets and pioneering. If LIVES are on the line, then why not more emphasis????

List of Prominent JW Urban Legends...
by Tuesday inhey folks,.
i'm wondering if you all could help me with my next video that i want to put up in the next couple of days (though i'm hoping for tonight), i want to come up with a list of the most prominent urban legends surrounding jws and then refute them whatever they may be.. i'm thinking there's the urban legend about the question on jeopardy that said the nwt was the most accurate would be a good one.
that one stems from an online powerpoint presentation named theological jeopardy and a book which was written comparing six different translations of the bible.

How about... (and I'm summing this up) where a Kingdom Hall was supposed to built on a plot of land, but because of a precious oak tree the approval was denied. The next day lightening struck down the tree, and the hall was able to be built!
Another, that reading the WT and Awake magazines are equal to a college education!

Last Nights Mtg. "Demonstrate Personal Interest" (New Bible Students Beware)
by WalkTall insometimes it just hits you how cold and unfeeling this religious corporation is.. last night there was a part in the kingdom ministry about helping new bible studies.
in one paragraph it mentioned how the new student might cut ties with former associates because they are not living by bible principles.
it says that their families might disown them.

It's sad and scary how well they position their cult behavior. I fell for it. We all fell for it. Fortunately most of my non-JW friends still welcomed me back when I left the cult.

Summary: To be a friend of Jesus:
1) Recruit more members
2) Give us money
3) Listen to what we say
Sounds like a cult to me!

Did any of you study the WT lesson throughly without ANY underlining?
by asilentone injust wondering.
it makes me think whoever underlines the wt without going throughly is purely hypocritical.

I just never prepared, and never understood why we needed to. It was written at a 4th grade level anyway so I was fine just covering it during the meeting.
On the same note, I also rarely commented because I found it insulting to my intelligence to recite a sentence or concept that we just read without any thought or personal slant on things.

I have found that situations are a blessing in disguise... basically elders helping you fade! I had a crazy elder who took away the few priviladges I had. like reading and saying prayer at book study, (because of too low service time), to the point where I had no more skin in the game. It just made missing meetings that much easier!
