1 Thess 5:3 - What do you think....
by The Scotsman in1 thessalonians 5:3 says this - "whenever it is that they are saying: peace and security!
then sudden destruction is to be instantly upon them just as the pang of distress upon a pregnant woman; and they will by no means escape.
" nwt... jehovahs witnesses believe this is refering to our time with a final fulfillment imminent which of course triggers total destruction for nearly everyone and everything.

What kind of "loving" God would destroy the world just as they are finally solving their problems anyways? They are on the cusp of proving wrong that man cannot rule himself when they do finally achieve peace and security. And, just so they won't get that chance, Jehovah is going to step in and destroy them and disrupt their progress. I suppose that's because the stagnant, non-fulfilling new world that Jehovah is proposing to create can in no way compete with the world that man can make.
He did this before:
Genesis 11
5 But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building. 6 The LORD said, "If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other."Not saying that man's motives are the same here, but he did step in to disrupt man's progress.

Anyone grow up in a small town?
by RisingEagle ingrrrr.
bad enter key, bad.. those who grew up in small towns will laugh when they read this.
those who didn't will be in disbelief and won't understand how true it is.

The small town I grew up in had a Tastee-Freeze, mmmmm, yummy ice cream and every year had a "Crazy Dayz" sale in downtown where all of the locally owned store owners would put out their wares really cheap. It was a huge event every year. We also had a real 4th of July celebration, begin with a huge parade, all day festivities in two different parks, watermelon eating contests, I won a third place trophy for frisbee throwing , and end the evening with a rodeo and fantastic fireworks show. Ah, the good old days.

Just started COC, can't stop crying
by erynw ini left the wtb&ts 24 years ago after being a full time pioneer for 15 years and have never looked back.
i have no family "in" and have moved very far away from the congro i left.
no one here knows i used to be in this cult.. i experienced the usual shunning from the members of the congro i went to and from surrounding congregations (the city i lived in was big and had several khs), but it didn't last long because i moved away shortly after the "big announcement".

I experienced shunning for about a year and a half after I was DFed before I moved away. I was initially removed as a full time pioneer before I was DFed so there was some shunning before I was DFed.
I'm not sure what exactly hit me so hard about reading those scriptures. In context of the paragraph in COC, these are listed in reference to disfellowshipped ones and their family members who shun them. For me, what I think happened is I realized just how wrong the disfellowshipping practice is. I remembered the parable? about the shepherd who has 100 sheep, one wanders off, he leaves the 99 to rescue the one. I was the one.

I experienced the usual shunning from the members of the congro I went to and from surrounding congregations (the city I lived in was big and had several KHs), but it didn't last long because I moved away shortly after the "big announcement". It hurt at the time and I really thought I had no emotions locked inside of me about that time in my life.
That was until I read these scripture in COC about shunning:
2 Corinthians 5:
11 Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience. 12 We are not trying to commend ourselves to you again, but are giving you an opportunity to take pride in us, so that you can answer those who take pride in what is seen rather than in what is in the heart.2 Corinthians 7:
2 Make room for us in your hearts. We have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have exploited no one. 3 I do not say this to condemn you; I have said before that you have such a place in our hearts that we would live or die with you.Now I'm riding a rollercoaster of emotions that I can't seem to stop.
