One Reason Why I Worship the God of the Bible

while this may be construed as a rebuttal to nvr's thread re: why i post about atheism, that is not my intent.. it is my intent, however, to show how i developed a belief in and love for the god of the bible.. my paternal grandfather, who died before i was born, was a baptist preacher, so you could say i cut my teeth on the bible.

i loved having it read to me, and once i learned how, reading it for myself.

i'm convinced that spirituality runs deep in my blood.. i've always had such a strong sense of right and wrong that injustices make me literally sick.

There are no commuting of sentences, no payoffs, no unlawful flights to avoid prosecution or any such shenanigans in this case. God has remained true to His Word throughout the millenia since He first pronounced the Death Sentence on the human race

Recently I drove my JW mom to my sons graduation and had a chance to talk for hours on the Bible and JWs. I was able to clearly explain to her the many things I did not understand in the Bible as well as in the Society. She agreed that many things are difficult to understand, the WTS has a lot to answer for, and didnt have answers for a lot of my questions. In the end she remarked that whenever someone says or implies that there is no Jehovah she starts getting agitated to the point where her body shakes. It is something she would rather not hear. Instead of forcing my opinions on her i simply told her that her faith in Jehovah is to be admired because it gives her support in tough times.

I tend to think those who rely on the God of the Bible are blissfully content.The things that are too difficult to understand or when questions that are too problematic for faithful worshippers come along IS IT OK to ignore them like we did when we were JWs and go our merry way "in the Lord"? Of course it is! Your happiness is number one. Your strength your courage your determinations your integrity all center around your beliefs. Sticking to them allows you to increase your love for god. Increase your love for god and you increase your joy.
On the other hand many need logic. Your statement about your worshipping the god of the bible on the basis of what you said above provokes my need for logic in as much as your joy is increased by your admiration of god. My mother would no doubt agree with you that Gods pronouncement of death on humans has not been able to be bypassed in any way.

Does it matter that God himself doesnt have any concept of death since somehow he has never had a beginning and will never have an end? Does it matter that God chose the Isrealites Because the Bible says " they were the the least of all the peoples.' told them THOU SHALT NOT KILL then instructed them to kill millions of those peoples that were NOT "the least of all peoples" that happened to be in their way...ect ect..
When YOUR statement above that no human has ever bypassed YHWH's sentence of death on humankind goes unchallenged it forces me back to my Watchtower days when i accpeted everything and questioned very little.

when i first attended the congregation of jehovahs witnesses i never even thought about whom or what was the faithful and discreet slave.

i do not believe that this information is ever taught to the public directly.

i think you have to be baptised or start attending the same meetings as those that are baptised.. anyway what made all of you adapt the teaching of the faithful and discreet slave (class or whatever)?

Hey why would God give a shit about 6 Million Jews? He allowed mankind to die in the Flood except for 1 family. More ppl were killed in the flood than in the Holocaust. God only gives a shit when it suits HIM. You dont fuck with God or else you die. Unless the flood is being misrepresented IN the Bible and it was only a local event...and the whole inhabited earth wasnt covered with water. But then we have to rely on what the Bible says without reading TOO much into it right? SO when it says the flood KILLED off all life that s what it means. God didnt allow for ppls freewill in all parts of the world at the Flood dd HE?? So 6 million ppl dying is nothing to him. After all he can resurrect all those 6 million anytime he wants.

All the people who die before Armageddon especially Elvis, Frank Sinatra, and anyone else who is REALLY nice deserves to be resurrected in the new system cause theres a reason they died BEFORE the end came.....so they can be in the new system! So many of our great celebrities have not had a chance to hear about the Truth so they will be resurrected and givent the opportunity to serve Jehovah in new order.

Well since Ive been occasionally reading Without JW glasses anymore I read the Bible as a story a mythical book, and it makes SO much more sense. Have you ever noticed how the Hebrew Scrptures mention false gods all the time ...yet rarely seems to call them "fake". Why is that?

We have the "gods of the nations", gods of Laban,Gods of Egypt,gods of the Amorites,gods of the Canaanites,, high places and altars of the different Baals, Gods of the Philis, DAGON; BAALZEBUB, gods of Damascus,gods in Syria,Solomon's many wives worshipped their own gods,CHEMOSH; MOLECH,Succoth-benoth, Nergal, Ashima, Nibhaz, Tartak, Adrammelech, gods of Seir, Hamoth, Arpad, Sepharvaim, Hena, Ivvah,gods conquered by Sennacherib's fathers, Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, Eden or Telassar,Gods of Moab,Gods of Babylon,Nineveh's gods , ect ect...

SO after you read the Bible in this fashion, the question begs answering...IS CHRISTIANITY AN "EVOLVED FORM OF POLYTHEISM ?"(worship of many gods)

YHWH never said there werent other gods..he said "thou shalt have no other gods before me" but SO many gods are mentioned by NAME that it very "story" like.

It is correct that in the Old Testament that there is no monotheism - the concept was put to rest actually by the discover of Ugarit. Ugarit not only showed the archaeological community that the Hebrews during the persian period and before worshipped one God out of a Pantheon of them (called the Ugaritic Pantheon), but that Yahweh was the son of El'yon - Professor Mark Smith has written many books on Ugarit.

When the Hebrew scriptures were written (probably during the late Persian period - early Hellenistic age), the Hebrews were already immersed in cultures outside of their own in the Diaspora, and seems unlikely that they would have been solely monotheistic throughout the early stages of this period. Throughout their time in the Diaspora, it is certain that the fondness for this singular God, Yahweh, would have been a beakon, much like Zeus, the all powerful. But even during the Hellenistic and Roman periods the Jews did partake in worshipping other Gods and joining mystery religions - likes the Pythagoreans, the Orphics, the Dionysiacs, etc...

The concept of monotheism really didn't take until after Constantine abolished all other religions making Christianity the official Roman religion - this is simply because the previous religions were based on polytheism, where as Christianity in the 4th century was monotheistic - as in only one God (three parts) - and that is where our concept of mootheism comes from today.

1:4-Ez sees a possible UFO
1:5-10 Ez sees a bunch of creatures
1:27- Sees GOds loins
2:9- God tells him to eat a scroll
3:14 The Spirit lifts him up in the air and transports him to a river where he sits for 7 days
3:20 If a good person does something wrong after God "lays a stumbling block before him," then God will kill him. "He shall die in his sin" and whatever good he has done will be forgotten
3:24 The spirit (of God?) enters Ezekiel, ties him up, and makes his tongue stick to the roof of his mouth so that he could no longer speak
4:4-9 God makes Ezekiel lay on his right side for 390 days, and then on his left side for another 40 days. "And thou shalt not turn thee from one side to another, till thou hast ended the days." I'll bet he had some killer bed sores after that
4:9 bread It's supposed to be made according to the recipe given in this verse and is said to be a complete meal that satisfies all nutritional requirements. I guess that's how Ezekiel managed to survive 390 days lying on his side and eating only this bread. It seems like pretty darned good bread to me, too, but I can't wait until they start making bread using the procedure described in Ezekiel 4:12.
