Angry at first
by BeautifulMind inso when my mom died in 2007 the main thing that kept me from losing it was that i knew i would see her again in the earthly paradise that i read and sang about in the jw publications.
i honestly fully believed in it.
we were best friends and it was devastaing to lose her.

OTWO- I agree with you- it's healthy to feel anger, but we can't let that anger or resentment rob us of the enjoyable things we can pursue in life at present. There has to be a balance indeed. I too try to accomplish that balance in my life as well. Good point you make . Take care, Peace out, Mr. Flipper -

How are you spreading TTATT?
by vinman injust wondering if anyone has used any underhanded ways of spreading ttatt.
i mean, has anyone made up business cards or tracts and spread them far and wide?
i would love to engage in this "alternative witnessing".

I talk with everybody- non-JW's AND JW's about TTATT. When subjects come up in grocery stores about religion - I'll bring attention to the WT child abuse scandals. I've had some good experiences talking with the JW cart people in my little home town and have placed WT child abuse news releases with them numerous times. I've left those same WT child abuse news printouts at magazine racks outside of grocery stores, even inside grocery stores. Left them on news bulletin boards as well. I've also gone onto kingdom hall parking lots and left them under windshield wipers in order to inform JW's in my 3 county area about the child abuse scandals. I think it's good to get the word out to non-JW's and JW's as well. Doesn't bother me in the least. I'm glad to expose this criminal organization the WT Society. People need to be helped and people need to wake the hell up -

BEAUTIFUL MIND- I understand your anger. My parents are around 90 years old now and have been in the JW cult for almost 65 years since 1951. Once they die- MY anger stems from the fact that they were lied to ALL these years that they would " live forever in a Paradise earth never dying " if they stayed "" faithful " to the WT Society.
And that will be a point I will bring up to my older JW brother and JW siblings at any funeral of my parents. That mom and dad were lied to. That they weren't SUPPOSED to die - according to their beliefs. WT lied to them. I'm angered for the WT Society wasting all of my mom & dad's years and that them following WT Society advice - has divided my JW family from those of us in the family who have escaped the cult. Anger ? You bet, I understand- I have lots of it and resentment too towards this criminal organization

Cognitive Dissonance
by LexIsFree inthe cognitive dissonance amongst jws has never been more obvious to me then what i just experience in the last 5 min.
long story short i had a phone conversation w/my mom about some things and i mentioned to her to look up what has been going on with their beloved organization in australia.
brother geoffrey jackson of the holy governing body was caught lying numerous times about several subjects including disassociations & shunning.

Bottom line is like Outlaw said- JW's are very adept at denial- so much so that in my opinion many JW's suffer from " Stockholm Syndrome " whereby they can totally support and be complicit with the crimes of their captors ( GB and WT leaders ) and not even blink an eye at the crimes of the WT Society regarding child abuse, no blood transfusions, virtually anything that WT leaders do- is acceptable to them.
And THAT is where the danger lies. No limits on how far rank & file JW's will trust the GB even in spite of crimes they have committed. Can anybody say " Charles Manson " ? How about "Jim Jones " or " David Koresh " ? If rank & file JW's have supported the GB these last 136 years without questioning - how FAR will they go in that support ? And how FAR will the GB take advantage of that " support " or sticking the heads in the sand of the rank & file ? It's a sobering thought. More serious than a lot of people take time to consider

Introducing Myself
by Peony ini've finally got round to joining the site (after over 2 years lurking!
i was born into jws, pioneered for 10 years (met my husband at pioneer school).

PEONY- It's really nice to have you here ! I'm so sorry that you and your husband were ill treated- many of us were. The good ones escaped and got out of the Witnesses. I'm happy that your life is less stressful now . Isn't it amazing how we can breathe the air of freedom of mind and clear thinking after leaving the Witnesses ? I've been out 12 years and I'm still amazed at how clearly I can actually think with my mind now after being born and raised in it for 44 years until I escaped in 2003. Take care, say " hi " to hubby for us ! Peace out, Mr. Flipper -

It does seem that they think the "worldlies" owe them a living. To think your tax dollars are at work helping these clowns go door to door ruining people's lives.
My JW mother in law is in a medi-Cal nursing home. Her inheritance was taken over by her "spiritual head" and shuffled around so she would qualify for aid.
She shares a room with a batshit crazy, ill-tempered 100 year old woman, no peace or solitude.
She is unhappy there but pretty much resigned to her fate - doesn't want us to make waves.

You have to be strong
by troubled mind instanding up for yourself, and deciding to follow your own path takes strength .
you have to be strong especially if you were raised in a way of life that dictated so much of who you were .
while being raised as a jehovah's witness i was taught to follow ,unquestionally follow .i was told to put others before myself ,serve, don't stand out ,don't be independent .

TROUBLED MIND- Excellent thoughts in your thread . Thanks for posting those thoughts ! I experienced similar things you did being born and raised in the JW cult. Freedom of mind is one of the biggest things I treasure as well after exiting the JW's 12 years ago- not being TOLD what to think but using critical thinking skills to make my own decisions. I wish it didn't take me until age 44 - over 12 years ago for it to happen- but it happened when it happened and I'm going to make the best use of my life from here on out ! It's all we can do - spread positive vibrations ! Peace out, Mr. Flipper -

Elderly widows targeted, convinced to sign over Power of Attorney and Personal Representative of Estate
by Stop.the.abusers ini discovered that my 96-year-old grandaunt had named her jw elder as personal representative of her estate and another jw "best friend" as her power of attorney.
i learned that they used a financial advisor at wells fargo advisors to help raid my grandaunts bank accounts in the years before her death, and then the wt and jws received most of what was left of her estate.
i am currently working on a book to expose this horrific practice.

NANETTE- I'm so sorry that your aunt was treated so despicably. This elder and his accomplice should be strung up by the neck and hung for abuse of the elderly . Or locked into jail with the key thrown away.
It reminds me of how my 88 year old JW mom has lost all control of her finances which she inherited from her non-JW dad - and my dad and older brother control everything now regarding her health and she's in a medi -cal facility now living out her days an hour away from her home.
She's receiving much better care than your aunt did- but still- I truly believe that female JW's are really given less of a consideration regarding how much control they really have over their lives. You are right: something NEEDS to be done about this happening to older folks- especially women who cannot, or are not allowed to defend themselves and get taken advantage of by unscrupulous JW's or people wanting to get a piece of the financial pie at the expense of the aged one's health or even at the cost of their lives. It's disgusting. Please know that we are here for you as a support and empathize. Sincerely, Mr. Flipper

DEFENDER- Thanks for the information correction. My error. I don't know where I got the idea of 1,000 signatures either. 100,000 signatures ? Wow, that WILL take some time- but it's worth it
