What do you think psychological profiles of the GB members would look like?
by Alpaca inseriously.... i wonder how they would be evaluated by a psychologist.. it has to take an incredible level of self deception and delusion for them to believe that they alone have some special connection to, what they believe is, the most potent force in the universe.. clearly, they are very, very sick men..

For those who chose not to have kids--any regrets?
by Alpaca inwhen i was younger i didn't really have any second thoughts about deciding not to have kids.. when i think about the great relationship i had with my non-dub dad, i now wish that i had at least one child.. the decision was based on the borg's encouragement to put "spiritual interests" ahead of personal interests.
this is just one more of the long-lasting detriments to my life caused by the borg..

Barbie turns 50 this year--says life as anatomically correct member of the 144,000 not so bad...
by Alpaca in.
it's rumored that she stayed single all of these years for spiritual reasons.. when interviewed she also said she thought the end would have come by now and that she wished she and ken had gotten married and had kids..

Has anyone ever had a broken humerus....not very humorous!
by Alpaca insome of you guys may remember that last fall i was talking about doing a cross-country bicycle trip.. well, that idea had to be scrapped, at least for a while.. two days before last thanksgiving, i broke my humerus.
and, of course, since i am right handed it was my right arm.
the doc said that it would be long, tedious recovery-- 6 to 8 months.

What is the general "mood" these days of Dubs at meetings and assemblies?
by Alpaca ini haven't been inside a kingdom hall since 1998. back then, the change in the 1914 "generation" teaching was still sinking in and the "mood" then was one of confusion and head-scratching about what it all meant.. it is difficult for me to imagine how the "mood" now could be anything other than one of disappointment and doubt...even if it is not openly expressed.. do you think at some point there will be critical mass of doubts (and doubters) that will just start spilling out when dubs realize that others around them feel the same way?.

Way back when...leeches and blood..the GB/BORG take....
by Alpaca indo you guys remember when medical scientists, back in the 1970s were figuring out how to successfully re-attach severed body parts, found that when leeches were placed on the reattached parts it dramatically improved the "take..." ....so, much so that it was hailed as significant breakthrough?.
of course the kill-joys-ers in brooklyn had to weigh in on a topic they were ill equipped to handle and they declared something to the effect that...'in the light of the biblical prohibitions on the proper use of blood, it would be wrong for a christian to allow leeches to "feed" on their blood...even if it was part of a medical procedure...".
this was one of the many things that ate (lol...no freudian slip there...) at me at me while i was still a "good" dub.

911 dispatchers -- is it just me or they just really slow on the uptake?
by Alpaca inwhat part of "send the police" is so difficult?
the 911 dispatcher talking with the woman, whose friend was being attacked by the chimpanzee, responded like a total moron to the pleas for help.. i realize that the dispatchers need to get the callers to respond as calmly as possible to their questions.
and, i also realize that most of the 911 dispatchers do an incredible job.

Why do ex-Dubs become either liberal or conservative?
by Alpaca ini am just curious about what factors have made you find your niche in either the liberal or the conservative mindset.. for myself, even when i was a dub i almost always found liberal arguments much more persuasive than those of conservative thinkers.
i attributed it, in part, to my dub-shaped thinking...i.e., the desire to see people living in peace, the fair distribution of resources and wealth, enough food, clothing and adequate housing for all, etc.. personally, i think that liberal thinking is more mature thinking.
here is why: i believe that liberals are generally willing to look at a bigger picture of things and peer down the road to anticpate the tomorrow's ramifications for the things we do today.. some of the discussions on this board, where it is impossible to escape taking a stand as a liberal or a conservative, have turned into bizarre screaming matches between the participants.
