Baptism: What It's Supposed to Mean and what it actually does mean
by WTWizard inyou are getting baptized, and they ask you the questions.
but, do you know what your baptism is supposed to actually mean?
most people will get that it is a symbol of your dedication to jehovah the watchtower society.

I worked for five years at one of the JW nursing homes in the north west of england. Some very spooky things went on in there I can tell you; Cups and saucers rattling in the night. Footsteps running accross the first floor landing. Windows which were locked as is the norm at the start of night shift, only to be found WIDE open later. Not open just an inch, but as far as they would possibley go. Fire doors unexplicable bursting wide open at night, setting all alarms off. There was an occasion when the night staff were sat together in a lounge area, when one of the sisters and I saw a shadow pass by the door. We jumped up because we though one of the residents was up and wandering, but there was no one there. And before I get slagged off for having a wild imagination, all of those things mentioned above were 'witnessed' (pardon the pun) by all the staff on duty. We raised the matter with the elder that also worked as a Manager for the home. He just poo hoo'd it. Shell

Do You Recognize Your Baptism?
by sweetstuff ini was promised that this generation would no means pass away.
(live forever book, pg.
154) i brought this up, although it has probably been discussed before, because i am sure some people right now are worrying how to handle an elder's visit or call.

Absolutley not. I had no choice but to get baptised. My father was an alcoholic, bitter ex MS, my mother a self righteous religious nut.
I had to get away! The only way to do this was to get baptised and get married quick sharp.
My baptism meant nothing to me, only freedon from the hell of home life!

I hate the song that starts 'marriage is gods arrangment'. You know the one that gets dragged out for every wedding!
I flatly refused to use that for my own wedding! Pathetic song for pioneer luvvies when they wed theyre up and coming ministrial servant sweethearts with all the congo smiling aimlessly at this wonderfull new family!

Beliefs, Honesty
by Hiddenwindow innot too long ago, i heard a district overseer say, at a circuit assembly, something astonishing; that he would continue to be a jehovahs witness even if it was proven to him that god does not exist.
his point was the organization and its moral standards protect people from a lot of trouble and that this by itself is very positive aspect.
i could not forget such a statement and, just as an exercise, started to pose the following scenario to some of my friends, including several ministerial servants an one elder: if you some how determine that this is not the truth, would you continue to be a witness?

I'm not sure whether this is a massive problem but it must certainly affect quite a number of dubs. You find generation after generation who all follow suit because its all theyve ever known. But whether they really belive is anyones guess.
I think it takes a lot of courage to leave, when the soceity do a wonderful job of cutting members off from any outside assaociation, making people completely dependant on fellow witnesses for family/friends/socialization. To take a descisive step OUT whether that be by leaving quietly, DF or DAing a person must be feeling very strongly about the hypocrisy and conflicting teachings. This person knows that they will have to pay a heavy price for their 'rebelliousness', and that inevitabley is the loss of friends and family memebers. It can be quite scary to have to start over after many years in this cult, however the hardest part is making the discison itself to leave.
From reading this site, I can see that many agonise for years, as did I, before the final straw in the preverbial camels back causes the fading dub to make the decision! I can only speak from personal experience, that although it is undoubtably a life altering desicion, and it can be painful for a time, I now have peace because I stood up for my own convictions and took the consequences (losing family).
But I feel I have my dignity.
