Michael Jackson converts to Islam
by AndersonsInfo inmichael jackson's converts to muslim faith...and becomes mikaeelto some he's lost his mind, now he loses his religion...friday 21st nov 2008.
...more michael jackson .
michael jackson's latest crazy stunt involves reportedly converting to islam on the eve of his court battle with an arab sheik.. the king of pop - who was brought up as a jehovah's witness - is said to have sought solace in the faith after speaking to an unnamed songwriter and producer.. a source tells the sun, they began talking to him about their beliefs, and how they thought they had become better people after they converted.. "michael soon began warming to the idea.".

Another fossil link found
by Caedes inhttp://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7736786.stm.
the earliest turtles known to live in water have been discovered on a scottish island.. the 164 million-year-old reptile fossils were found on a beach in southern skye, off the uk's west coast.
the new species forms a missing link between ancient terrestrial turtles and their modern, aquatic descendants.

USA AUTO MAKERS SCAPEGOAT?
by Sunnygal41 inwierd thought?
even though i haven't been following it closely, it seems to me that everyone is demonizing them, and i just wonder whether they are really just a convenient scapegoat for our anger from long repressed feelings of powerlessness.
yes, for the past eight years, most of us, in one way or another felt powerless over our daily lives in the usa.

If they go into bankruptcy I think it will be chapter 7, liquidation. They likely won't be able to get debtor-in-posession financing in this market, and I think they know it which is why they're begging for tax money.
I guess we'll need Billy Joel to write a song about Detroit. :( -

U.S. Auto Industry deserves the grave they dug for themselves
by drew sagan ini don't know how the folks here feel about u.s. automakers (aka the 'big three').
nevertheless, right now there is a 'bailout' on the table for these folks who seem to have run what were potentially viable companies right into the toilet.
there is an article over at boing boing that i just had to share.

One of the problems of letting them go into bankruptcy is that no one will probably give GM a loan. When the company I worked for WorldCom went into chapter 11 they got a (some?) debetor in possession loan(s) that allowed them to reorganize. If GM and the others are unable to secure any debtor in possession loans in this market then they'll have to be liquidated under chapter 7 bankruptcy. There's rumor circulating around that SAIC a Chinese auto company will buy up the bits of GM if that happens.
If we can give hundreds of billions to banks to pay out dividends and acquire other banks I think we could loan tens of billions to the car companies to keep hundreds of thousands of people employed. -

What is the best state to live in in America?
by oompa inesp.
interested to hear from any who have traveled or moved around a bunch....i am talking climate, nearness to mountains or beach or both, cost of living, etc.....as much as i love what california has to offer naturewise, the natural disasters and cost of living there bum me out....since i like mountains and beach, a climate a little less hot than florida.... i lean toward virginia straight south down through georgia, so both carolinas too.
maybe maryland too, but the further north you go, the colder the water and worse the winter, but still the new england coastal states are incredible........oompa.

Looks pretty good. It's not going to be the same, they have to try to make Star Trek appeal to the next generation after all.
Wouldn't it be cool if Kirk had a Darth Vader "Noooooo!" moment?
