I have had to go to a couple of funerals, so they were not regular meetings. But it was reminder enough.
No thanks for going out of curiosity.

Have you ever gone back to a meeting out of curiosity?
by stuckinarut2 injust wondering if anyone has gone back to a meeting out of curiosity?
(perhaps to an area far from your old khall where you know no one).
with all the changes from 2012 onwards (videos, tv screens, new meeting format, new songs etc) it would be an odd experience to be in attendance!.

a question after my first JW meeting
by bleak ini attended my first jw meeting recently.
first, i would like to say what i agree with about the jehovah's witnesses beliefs and practices.. 1. they don't consider israeli's as "god's chosen people" and they don't worship israel as some holy land filled with righteous jews (although there are some there) as most so-called "christians" (christian zionists) erroneously believe they are instead of the "hypocrites" and "vipers" that it is actually filled with.. 2. they don't celebrate "holidays" like easter and christmas which are, in fact, remnants of earlier pagan practices.. 3. they don't put nation before god and christ.
they don't believe in war or going to war because of some crazy government/cia secret agenda.

Israel is not "God's chosen people." True enough.
Holidays come from manmade religions, referred to as "pagan." All true.
They don't believe in fighting wars for political agendas, at least not those of the nations. Yes.
On those points, they do seem to heap praise on ancient Israel as God's chosen people. That way, they can claim they are modeled on God's people, and therefore are God's people. That is their self serving part- saying "No, WE are God's people."
Avoiding holidays with pagan roots is more about isolating themselves from 'the world.' They put an unhealthy fear in children to avoid birthdays and any holiday stuff. If Christmas offends you, don't do Christmas. Same with the rest. But does a child have to fear that he let God down because he wanted a birthday cupcake from a worldly classmate?
JW's are fighting a war against the world and are dying, letting their kids die, for the agenda of Watchtower with the silly blood doctrine, and keeping their flocks ignorant with their view of higher education.
They do not know the Bible so great as others have mentioned. They know snippets that support Watchtower doctrine. I could go on, but you will know this when you pay attention, and read the good points made by others here.
The sometimes-figurative, sometimes literal use of the Bible is all based on what the men running Watchtower want the people to think, do, believe. Whatever keeps them in line best.

Anyone watching Star Trek Discovery?
by Coded Logic inso i've been watching the show and really enjoying it.
great to see a trek tv series finally get a reasonable budget.
beautiful costumes, sets, cinematography, action pieces, etc.. really my only complaints are how cg all the ships look and there's a fair bit of stiff dialog from time to time.. what do you guys think of the show?.

I binged it because I like Sci-fi. It doesn't fit into the Star Trek storyline at all with it's more advanced technology. "Enterprise" never really fit in well either.
So if I watch it as a separate television adventure, it's okay. But even then, it seems that there is little planning in any schemes, but rather who gets the drop on the other. People escape capture easily and it has standard "bad guys are bad shots" rules. And these Klingons are constantly losing fights they should be winning.

I gave up The 5th Dimension for Jehovah
by compound complex ingreetings, old timers (in particular):.
of course, we don't share all views in common.
unless i'm mistaken, however, we older, former jws were decisive about what our "bible-trained consciences" would allow -- or not.

I gave up so much music, settled for soft rock for a long time.
I loved getting back to what is today called classic rock.
BACK IN BLACK by AC DC is my official return-from-the-cult theme song.Back in black
I hit the sack
I've been too long I'm glad to be back
Yes, I'm let loose

My Boyfriend's Family Wants to Meet Mine (My Parent's are JWs) Help!
by LaurenM inso i have been "faded" for approximately 2.5 years.
my parents know i haven't attended a meeting in quite some time, but don't know that i have been dating a guy for about eight months.
we really love each other and his family is super sweet.

My opinion, if you don't share your life with your family then you might as well be shunned. I would have a heart-to-heart talk with the boyfriend and his family about what it means to be a faded Jehovah's Witness, then I would approach my family and present my significant other that I claim I'm not having sex with and I'm contemplating getting married too.
His family would be forewarned to help you approach this delicately.

What would you say?
by Freedom rocks inif you had 2 minutes with an old witness friend or with a family member to convince them the 'truth' is a lie and the gb isnt being directed by god what would you say to get their attention that might make them question their beliefs?.

The Millerites waited for the end in 1844, the next end was 1874, then Russel declared it would be one generation that was 40 years past 1874, bringing us to 1914. There were a few more failed dates such as 1925 and 1975. The generation went from adults in1914 to newborns and then now to an overlap of those babies with today's anointed.
Your organization has scoffed at organizations that were wring less than them. They blasted Roman Carholicism for pedophile priests while hiding the same problem in their own organization.
The only difference between "inspired" and "spirit-directed" is that they use the second one to allow themselves blunders.
Watchtower allows children to be baptized then tells their family to shun them as teens if they didn't stick with their childhood decision. They've taken all the money from Kingdom Halls and selling Brooklyn properties and they are still going broke paying off lawsuits from hiding pedophiles.
They are not guided by God

This is my story
by paradiseseeker ini've already posted in this forum but i haven't told you my story.
nowadays i'm a pimo in my late 20s from spain.. i was born in the cult and i can say that during my whole childhood and most of my teenage years i believed in this.
however, i felt that here was something wrong with me, as i wasn't comfortable telling people i was jw, talking about jw stuff, nor did i feel "excited" and "grateful" whenever a watchtower publication told me that i should.

Has Watchtower taken the joy out of 'the good news of the kingdom'
by UnshackleTheChains ini ask this question for the following reason.
i was sitting at the kingdom hall thinking about all the rules, procedures, policies, teachings that each member must follow ......or else!.
at the watchtower study we are reminded of the paradise earth where we will all be the same and happy.

"Pick up your torture stake and follow me!" ...or something like that. Why should you expect joy? They tell you the joy is knowing the special truth and pleasing your God (Watchtower).
It is double talk because they say you should be joyful or else you are doing something wrong.
