by not disfellowshipping the people that just walk away the numbers will stay high, giving people a false sense that there are more witnesses than there really are. Maybe only 4 million as compared to the 6 million that they claim.

in doing so, my wife left the religion at the same time.

JWs, Who are they patterned after?

i also would have answered that way, when i was a dub.
but when reading my elder book, i found this:

I believe that one of the history books that the watchtower puts out exxplains that Russel's parents were 7th day adventists (I think), or one of the end of the world churches. It had always been rumored that they took aa lot of thier beliefs from that church, and then they came out with thier own book showing that russel had direct ties. Of course, you can't tell a JW that thier churcch is just a spinoff. They will tell you that they are "patterned after the origional Israelites".

convention notes
by drawcad_1 ini didn't get to hear the talk about not listening to television articles (dateline)about the borg or reading internet articles that might undermine the good news.
but i did notice some other issues that seem to be highlighted.. contributions must be down.
there must have been three references to the widow woman who only gave 2 coins to the collection, but that was everything that she had.

I had to hear how cheating on my wife is unpleasing to god, or anybody cheating on their spouse, and that we could bring home diseases to our family. Is this a propblem.
There were two talks that were aimed at getting the youth out into the service, and why it is so good for them. Along with a few handpicked personal experiences on how it has improved peoples lives.

Memorial attendance down?
by TweetieBird inlast night 3 congregations met at the assembly hall for the memorial.
there were just a little over 800 there which really surprised me.
in past years every congregation around here usually had at least 300 in attendance.

It struck me as strange when I first heard that they were outsourcing some of thier food. But, after reading these posts it makes sense. I guess that if god was behind you wouldn't all of your endeavers be profitable.

Suckered into the memorial after all
by Pierced Angel indang!.
things happened with my mom (dad couldn't get back from his out of town job) and i ended up being guilted into going to the memorial with her after all.
at least she agreed to take the kids home with her afterwards so my friend and i could still go out for a few drinks afterwards (which were much needed after that experience).. i'm da'd so many there smiled when they saw me and it immediately froze on their faces as they tried to look the other way.

This is a really good one....
by Inquiry inhey all..... i recently heard the funniest prank..... a neighbour of mine came over, with a beer i might add.... nice fellow... and during conversation found out that i used to be a witness... he was asking me questions and then he got this funny smirk on his face... i thought it was something i said, so i asked him what i did.... he started laughing and said he was just remembering what he and a friend did about three years ago around christmas time..... i had been out of the borg for over a year at that point.... apparently, these two pranksters... of course whilst drinking deeply of the barley and hops laden waters of life.... went to a canadian tire, bought $75 worth of christmas lights (about $5 usd...lol) and in the wee hours of a sunday morning... put them up around my old kh and lit them up for all to see when they came in for the 10 am meeting..... i asked around and apparently it's true!
laugh!
i thought i'd die!!!!!

It makes me sad to see the little ones eyes brighten up when they see the Christmas lights, and they know that they will not get to see them. makes me wonnder how they will make up for a lost childhood.

JWs- Evolutionary failures.
by refiners fire ini have the feeling this idea has been posted before by someone..however.... in evolutionary/ genetic terms the witnesses are a failing experiment.. they have discouraged large families, hence they are not winning in terms of numerological growth.. they have discouraged education.
so they are not winning in terms of societal prestige/ success.. they have failed abysmally!
!law of evolution says they must wither and become extinct.. the mormons are doing much better.. they breed like crazy.. education, im not too sure about...

all of the 13-16 year olds that are going to be baptized are going under pressure from thier parents, even though they have been told it is of thier oown will. But every good witness child knows the consequences if they do not get baptized.
poor kids.

Memorial Scrabbling
by Demitrius inwell they are scabbling around to find as many people to attend the memorial again this year.. i walked out 3.5 years ago and have not heard anything since from the elders.
i have one that lives about 50 metres away and he is one that has not even telephoned me in all that time.
.. just the other night he turns up on my door step and hands me the usual invite!

It is thier way of inflating numbers. I am not sure if there is a cutoff age for counting people that attend, but I am sure that if you can walk in you are counted. So, that means if a baptized mother comes in with her two unbaptized children there will be three people counted. Even if the children didn't have a choice on coming.
