If JW's want to stay away from apostates why don't they just so and do it. The adding of the name calling, mentally diseased etc., takes it to another level meant to demean and punish the ones who left the org and to instill fear of them.

A "prominent" elder's wife got into a carrot juicing kick, and soon the skin of a substantial amount of people started turning orange. It was hilarious.
She also gave a book to another sister to talk her out of having a hysterectomy. The sister got so mad she made me give the book back to the elder's wife.
There are plenty more wacky things through the years...

i was born in a jw family and i grew up as the average jehovah's witness does.
even being very young, i helped with the territories and other work in the congregation.

Don't remember it, but Ted Jaracz gave it. He was our CO or DO, forget which. His wife came on my studies a few times. My mom had me study separately with another sister from the hall when the "Truth" book came out. And this sister was famous for getting people baptized at every assembly or she dropped them. There was a lot of pressure and I caved. I was 12.

I love it when JW's tell you what god/Jehovah, "feels, wants, likes, loves, hates, 'takes note of,' 'pays special attention to..." Such a fantastic delusional story.

I was just talking about this very thing with my JWgf. Her husband is an MS, didn't really want to be an elder because it would restrict some of the things he dos. But the elders are putting pressure on him because the pool to draw from is quite low.
The elderly ones are almost all gone. The babyboomers are tired and trying to keep up. The young MS's are not interested in the least in becoming elders...they live pretty good and are focusing on their family and life. They know very well what the sacrifices are to be an elder and aren't willing to do it...wise.
I shared with my gf the Conti case and warned her about the culpability of the elders involved.
I have always said, losing fulltime workers and elders will seriously affect the WTBS. I think they know it too.

My brother (elder) actually listened to this book on tape and confided to me he learned a lot from it. He said wasn't sure everything was correct but he definitely felt some of it was and left it to me to listen to...and this was just before I left JW. Knowing the history of the time brings so much understanding. It was a place to start in questioning the WT version of history.
Some people like Cahill and some people don't. I read his books on the Irish, the Jews and the Greeks. All historical story telling...easy way to learn about ancient civilizations.
