Hi hellrider. Let me make sure I understand you correctly.Did they use to teach that it meant "i am" at the kingdom hall? And then they changed the translation two times?

He causes to become - No more
by LtCmd.Lore incorrect me if i'm wrong but the last time the society has used the phrase 'he causes to become' was in 2004, in a review.
it's not even mentioned in the bible teach book... which has an appendix about what gods name is and means, it says it means: i shall become whatsoever i chose.
have they changed their minds about the meaning of gods name?

Spiritual Resurrection?

i just had a thought and was wondering what you guys think about it.
it was actually inspired by another thread, but it has to do with the resurrection.

I think it is definitely speaking about litarally dead people and it might be refering to Mathew 27:50-53
50 And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. 51 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split. 52 The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53 They came out of the tombs, and after Jesus' resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many people

or they are trying really hard to come up with a translation different than the septuagint and typical bible translation "I am" so when Jesus said "I am" and people tried to stone him J-dubs do not make the connection with God's name.

False "Reasoning from the Scriptures" (all rights reserved)
by yaddayadda inthe reasoning from the scriptures book lists 7 criteria for determining which religion is right?
putting aside for the moment the assumption in the societys question, that there is only one right religion, which 3 of the societys criteria do you think are the weakest and which 3 are the strongest, and why?
(those who dont believe that the bible is gods word please try and suspend your disbelief when answering) .

Torture stake not cross!!!
by kgav8r ini'm going to try to word this carefully so that we may all understand.
the writers of the bible used a word that the wts interprets as stake.
if this word does indeed mean stake, then what word should the bible writers have used to mean cross if it is not the word the wts interprets as stake?

warning: gruesome description below
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impalement
"Impalement is an act of torture and/or execution whereby the victim is pierced by a long stake. The penetration can be through the sides, from the rectum, or possibly through the mouth. The stake would be usually planted in the ground, leaving the victim hanging to die. In addition, Jehovah's Witnesses believe that Jesus Christ was nailed through the hands and feet to an upright pale and also describe this form of execution as impalement."
Funny how the wikipedia writers put it:Jehovah's witnesses "believe" (as in exersise faith) - not jehovah's witnesses discovered, or have further proof or anything like that, just believe this word to mean something else.

In Jeremiah 7:31 god is reprimanding Judah for sacrifising their children (instead of lambs or the traditional animal sacrifices)and then a judgement and punishment is profecied for this practise. I m not sure that I understand the connection with the passages discussing hell. Some help please?

I think you are right. It seems that the Bible points to a literal hell. And the story of Lazarus is suported by more scripture in Mark and Revelation.
42 "But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea. 43 If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched-- 44 where 'Their worm does not die, And the fire is not quenched.' F40 45 And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame, rather than having two feet, to be cast into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched-- 46 where 'Their worm does not die, And the fire is not quenched.' F41 47 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire-- 48 where 'Their worm does not die, And the fire is not quenched.' F42 49 "For everyone will be seasoned with fire, F43 and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt. 50 Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another." Mark 9:42-49
10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where F108 the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. Revelation 20:10
13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. 14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. F110 15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire. Revelation 10:13, 14

Trinity - HELP!!!
by Hamboozled insince being in the jw org for close to 35 years (from infant) and recently leaving i have been studying topics like the trinity because i was never allowed to before.
i'm getting so many mixed reviews from the scriptures of whether the trinity is possible or impossible.
" and john 1:18 "no one has ever seen god, but god the one and only, who is at the father's side, has made him known.

In support of the trinity:
Mathew 1:23They shall call his name Immanuel which is translated "God with us"
Isaiah 9:6: For unto us a child was born, unto us a son is given and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor,Mighty God, Everlasting father, Prince of Peace
John 8:58 Most assuredly I say to you before Abraham was born born I am.
Zachariah 12:10(Jehovah speaking) they will look on me whom they pierced, yes they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only son.
Isaiah 44:6 Thus says the LORD (Jehovah) the king of Israel and his Redeemer the Lord of hosts:"O am the first I am the Last Besides me there is no God"
Revelation 1:8 I am the alpha and the omega the beginning and the end says the Lord, who is and who was and who is to come the Almighty
Revelation 22:13 (Jesus speaking) I the alpha and the omega the beginning and the end the first and the last.
Acts 4:10 (peter speaking) let it be known to you all and to the people of Israel, that by the name 0of Jesus Christ of nazareth, whom you crucified whom God raised from the dead by him this man stands before you whole. This is the stone which was rejected by you builders which has become the chief cornerstone.Nor is there salvation in any other under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
there is more but i don't have them handy right now. i hope this helps your search.
