A mayo jar and two beers
by parakeet inwhen things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 beers.
a professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him.
when the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.. .

I'm celebrating The Memorial, parakeet-style
by parakeet inthis year marks an important anniversary for me -- the 30th year i've not attended the big shindig.. i believe i'll throw a virtual party for myself -- wine i can actually drink, leavened bread (so much tastier than unleavened), maybe crab dip.
balloons that read "in memory of the memorial.".
everyone's invited, provided they bring something that adds to the anti-memorial theme.. .

Alleged murderer swears innocence "on the name of Jehovah"
by parakeet ini watched an a&e show last night called "the first 48.
" it's a reality show that follows homicide detectives around during the critical first 48 hours of an investigation.
if a murder is not solved within the first 48 hours, chances are it will never be solved.. this episode involved a shooting of a young man, apparently over the price of a small bag of marijuana.

Has anyone else seen the movie "Worlds Apart"?
by parakeet init's a danish film with subtitles about a 17-year-old born-in dub girl who falls in love with an unbeliever.. if you haven't seen it and would like to, i won't spoil the ending.
but there is a scene where the girl is called in before the judicial committee and grilled about whether or not she and her boy friend had sex, whether and where they touched each other, whether she spent the night with him, etc.
they had her in tears by the end of it.. scary, scary film.. .

A real-life dub fairy tale. Happy ending? Not so much.
by parakeet innew light for you started a thread a day or two ago regarding an email that's been circulating around dubdom.
it's a fairy tale in which a 60-year-old guy with down's syndrome supposedly searched for years for dubs to connect with.
when he finally found one, all the dubs rejoiced that jehovah doesn't let his faithful followers down, blah, blah.

Dubs and doorbells -- has there been some "new light"?
by parakeet inthis afternoon my husband looked out the window and saw two unmistakable dubs shuffling up our street.
he didn't have time to warn me before they came to our door (he knows i get a bit testy whenever they visit).
i was in a nearby room, but heard nothing, saw nothing.

What Happens When an Agnostic Follows the Bible Literally for One Year?

no matter your religious or non-religious status, there are a few kernels of truth here for everyone.
