Do you have any kind of obsession?
by JH ini'm obsessed with new cars.
i'd trade a $50,000 car for a brand new $40,000 one the year after, and trade it again for a $30,000 brand new one the year later, and trade it again for a $20,000 one year after that.
as long as i get a new one every year or so, i love the feeling, even if it's less equipped.

Are JW esperiences simply Coincidental?
by Smoky ini saw a home video of a dc in san fransico yesterday, in which to camara man asked "what didi you like from day one of the convention?
" among the answers given was the amazing "experiences" the brothers told.. now as far as i can remember, jw's always said things like, 'the experiences show that jehovah is blessing us and is in our favor.'.
but dont other religions have amazing experiences that claim also miracles and blessing from god.

Watchtower 101: a survival guide
by parakeet inif you were dragged to meetings as a teenager (as i was), how did you get through the tedium of the 5-plus meeting hours a week?
i'm compiling a short primer for those still stuck in the meeting rut to help them survive the misery of boring, droning, and inept speakers week after week (at least until they're ready to chuck the meetings entirely).
how i got through meetings as a teen: .

If you were dragged to meetings as a teenager (as I was), how did you get through the tedium of the 5-plus meeting hours a week? I'm compiling a short primer for those still stuck in the meeting rut to help them survive the misery of boring, droning, and inept speakers week after week (at least until they're ready to chuck the meetings entirely).
How I got through meetings as a teen:
1. Elbow wrestled with my brother over the armrest between our seats.
2. Counted how many times the letters of my first name appeared in sequence per Bible page (added benefit of appearing pious to any observers).
3. Stared at a brightly colored dress of someone sitting in front of me and then watched the afterimage on the KH's white walls.
4. Listened to my stomach rumble as I got hungry.
5. Folded origami animals from ripped-out WT pages.
6. Keenly observed new KM speakers for signs of stage fright (the worse the speaker, the greater the entertainment).
7. Listened to the .05% of the talks that actually caught my interest.
Feel free to add any other strategies you can remember. -

Theme park
by helios inhow long will it be before the wt sets up a theme park.
with all that money from the sale of brooklyn property it would be a shame not to use it for some other cash generating scheme.
we could have the hall of the presidents with robotic figures all driven by hot air.. why not the beth sareem experience.

How about a WATER SLIDE/BAPTISM POOL to make your baptism a truly memorable occasion?

I wept at the end of "Waterworld," because I wasted 2 hours of my precious time watching that crap. My eyes are tearing up even as I type.

You don't have to search for obscure weirdness in JW drawings. There's plenty right out in the open in JW doctrine and history. Put the picture books away and start reading instead.

Berean vs. Free Bible Study - a recent reversal?
by slimboyfat inthe early group around russell studied the bible by reading it, discussing it and drawing conclusions.
when russell reached firm conclusions on various matters he began to be a bit down on this method of bible study for his followers.
instead the brethren should stick to reading the studies in the scriptures or wt studies (of questions with cited scriptures) rather than reading the bible alone.

***if I'd wanted an ON-LINE study aid - would that have been allowed?***
Joe, I've been out of the org for a long time, but my opinion is that the JWs would tolerate the use of on-line information only for a very short time. As you would ask impossible-to-answer questions (impossible for them), they would conclude your heart was not open to the "truth" and they would "brush the dust off their feet" (That's Watchtowerese for dropping you like a hot potato and never looking back). -

JULY 15TH WT STUDY ARTICLE QUOTES....
by Mary inwarning: ad nauseam quotes:.
keep free from murmurings - august 14, 2006 study.
par 16: murmuring focuses our min on ourselves and our troubles and pushes into the background the blessings we enjoy as witnesses of jehovah.

***...like he lost his children, had his balls shot off by enemy soldiers but still went door-to-door***
LOL!
Joe, don't be surprised to see your stories show up in a future WT. If most of them are fiction anyway, the WT writers are probably scraping the bottom of the barrel for new ideas. You're giving them gems! If they do show up, be sure to sue for copyright infringement. -

***...but some of them did build some pretty good buildings and paint some very nice pictures.***
Unfortunately, they also were responsible for the dark ages, the inquisition, and wholesale genocides.
***Otherwise, how would we have books, learning, art, etc???***
Check out history books on the ancient Romans--they were on the verge of a technological revolution that rivaled discoveries and inventions of the 1700s. But they were taken over by the Church and learning took a back seat to intolerance for more than 1000 years.
