Well I'm not exactly a hardcore poster. mainly because I'm 17 and live with my JW parents, so it's a lot easier to just snoop around every couple of days than it is to post a response... But I do intend to keep posting for quite some time.

What's the deal here?
by Jerohobobonadad inhello all, i hope this post finds you well.. i was wondering - the same hardcore dozen or so posters seem to be the only ones who reply to and start topics.
looking at the member directory, there are loads of members, but most do a handful of posts then disappear.
is there just a crew of regulars here?

Name some "laws" that don't require a "law-giver"
by AlmostAtheist increationists often point to the subtle balances between "natural laws", arguing that if gravity was a bit stronger/weaker or the weak nuclear force was a shade to the left or right, the universe would be destroyed.
but then they make the statement, "all laws require a law-giver.
that just isn't true.

Yes AlmostAtheist I believe your argument is extremely valid. I like it, and I'll probably use it.
When people say 'physical laws' they meen things that we can always count on as a result of certain events. Since they are so dependable and always uccur, people call them 'laws'. (Not a preticularly good word for them I know.)
Wikipedia: A physical law, scientific law, or a law of nature is a scientific generalization based on empirical observations of physical behavior. They are typically conclusions based on repeated scientific experiments over many years, and which have become accepted universally within the scientific community.
It's the same way with the 'law' you mentioned 'law of supply and demand' It's not a real law it's just called one by some people because it's so certain that it works every time. Nobody invented it, it's just a fact.
Law of Demand: As prices fall for a particular good or service, the demand for that item will increase. Vice-versa. (No government or individual had to say 'If a price falls you must buy more stuff or go to jail.')
Law of Supply: As the price of a particular good or service increases, the supply for that item will also be increased. Vice-versa. (Same thing, nobody had to specificaly say 'It's now the law, when something is expensive, buy less.')
These 'laws' just occur on their own when certian conditions are met. (IE. people sell stuff.)
Same with the physical 'laws' when a lot of mass get together, they have more gravity.
So when people say "All laws require a Law-Giver." they are wrong and right...
REAL laws require a law giver: Law is the set of rules or norms of conduct which forbid, permit or mandate specified actions and relationships among people and organizations.
But things that happen just because certain conditions are met are not real laws, call them what you will, they are just truths theories or facts.
Unless of course said creationist believes that the planets and ateriods are sentient beings that will be punished if they disobey the law... If someone says that to you, just stop arguing and walk away... carefully... 'cause your not gonna get anywhere.

Biblical poligamy question
by LtCmd.Lore inhey i was just wondering when it was officialy said in the bible that men could only have one wife?
i don't remember ever acctualy reading that statement.
i thought of this since king david had multiple wives, and this was after god gave the laws to israel in leviticus.. and more importantly, unless god changed his mind later on, he should have included this in the mosaic law shouldn't he?

Yeah well on the subject of twisting scripture I thought I would share this thought I had... this has some interesting logic in it so read it carefully.
Obeying the golden rule: I obey the golden rule, and I want others to treat me as if I obey the golden rule, so therefore I attempt to treat others like they are obeying the golden rule. So if someone does something rotten to me, I assume that they want to be treated the same way and therefore I return the favor, just like they wanted!
So you can be glad I'm an atheist now...

I got smarter, simple as that. As I increased in knowledge I found it harder and harder to wrap my head around the flood story, and all the other obsurd things in the bible, but I didn't dare look up the facts I wanted to... See my biography for my other reasons.
But eventualy I decided that I realy needed to know. That coupled with the fact that I knew I'd be completely bored in the paradise anyways, moved me to look this stuff up. I found a great website and I realized the whole flood story is a bunch of crap, I was pretty curious by now so I went to a couple of the links on the site and learned more. Well that got me started, and I'm still finding fault in pretty much every single article the society publishes.
I made the decision to leave shortly before I turned 16, but I know it would be foolish to quit before I can support myself so my parents have no clue yet, I'm now 17 and a half and I intend to leave the borg before the end of next year...
I wouldn't want to do it any other way, I'm glad I realised they're wrong when I did, because even though I had to wait about 3 years before I could say anything. It has given me plenty of time to figure out what facts I should use when I confront my parents, and the elders.
And when I do it... I intend to be the only person in the room who keeps my cool... No outbursts of emotion coming from me... that's the plan anyways.

Hey cool I'm acctualy allowed to have a political opinion now...
Think about this, if you know that your suicidal neighbor feels moraly obligated to kill you and your family, and he is trying his best to get a disitigrator grenade, which has only one use, to kill groups of people, do you have the right to steal it from him? Add to that the fact that you live in an area with no law (since there is no galactic police) so you can't expect any kind of protection... you don't have the right per say but as a matter of self preservation, you darn well better make sure that guy can't kill you.
So no, the U.S doesn't have the 'right' to chose who can have nuclear technology, but how stupid would the leader have to be to say,"sure I can stop them but I just wouldn't feel right doing it..."
We know that they feel they should kill the hethens, we are hethens to them, so it would be retarded to sit idly by as they build their bombs.

Aposta-Mag!
by Kristofer inso i've pondered the idea of making a one-time publication like the awake!
magazine which educates the reader on jw doctrine, the brief history, false prophecy, biblical defense and an exposure of changing doctrines, cover-ups and lies.
it would include a list of website links to keep the mag brief and they could go to sites for more indepth research.

You know it would be even more awesome if you could make them in time for the October campain about false religion... And place them in late September, so everyone will have them to counteract the campain program. You could just leave them with your co-workers or nearby neighbors... And tell them to save the for a little while to show to the witness who will be harrassing them all October
If you make them as a three or four page magazine, you would simply have to post the picture here and everyone could print them out and staple them together themselves. Even I would be willing to leave some laying around in public areas if I get the chance.
I agree that other than these special campains, people probably don't notice witnessess much, but they would probably be happy to have something intelligent to say to them when they do come around. Right?

Avatars
by Mysterious indo you change yours a lot, never?
what does it mean to you and how long have you had it?
ever change it and no one noticed.

I have had this same avatar for every forum I've ever joined since the very beginning of time itself... I keep the same avatar and alias wherever I go. I think it will help me become well known. If I change it I fear people will fail to recognize me.I may change it a little tiny bit, maybe slowly over time... I could add Samus and have the three heroes of nintendo... Past, Present and Future. But I really don't like metroid so I doubt it.
I might make the background darker and give Link and Mario Sith cloaks... I don't know, I'm happy with it for now. So don't expect me to change it any time soon.
By the way, I like your avatar...
