Elder knocks on my door... couldn't see who it was and I opened it...
by Soldier77 inso an elder came to my door the other day in field circus.
i looked through the peephole to see who it was, but the way the door is situated against the sky in the background i couldn't see anything but a silhouette.
not to mention he was standing off to the side so to make it hard for anyone to see who was knocking.. so i open the door thinking it was my friend since he is the only jw that knows where i live.

Sounds like he meant well. You can't fault him for wanting things to be set straight but he may get a rude awakening that the org isn't really interesting in digging up bones.

Yknot, this info about COs could still be right, I think you make a valid point about the Couples Bible School as a good segway into it. Then again, the reduced pioneer hours was bogus, and that rumor was prolific. I heard it everywhere. I can see the CO arrangement changing for them to save money and further shield from lawsuits.

by jwfacts inno, i don't mean the visit by oprah.. there was a special talk on sunday relayed to all the aussie congs from sydney.
apparently the speaker had an american accent, but was stationed in a latin american country.
he was really pushing field service and pulled out the old one that: if you do not witness you are not one of jehovah's witnesses.

Is the WTBTS having cash flow problems?
by JW GoneBad ini was at a 2 day circuit assembly this weekend and i was surprised at how many times mention was made directly or indirectly reminding those in attendance (1,600) of the need to give $$$.
even in the soliloquies or skits they seemed to work in the need to give $$$.. it made me wonder if the society is having 'cash flow' problems and hence is desparate for cash.
over the years that i've attended conventions and assemblies the need to give $$$ has been subtle (imo), til now.

d, no you don't NEED college to be a success, there are many examples of those that have great success and excel at what they do. Although I do agree that the WTBS' "college is all bad" is a gross over simplification. College is so you can get X piece of paper that says you can get this job that requires X piece of paper. It's what you make of your education that matters.

Good thread. I totally agree with you. My own research confirmed everything you wrote. When I was younger, congregations used to be groups of people feeling connected by working together on the same projects. It just felt right, I had real friends I could discuss just anything with them. No fear for being reported, nobody would say he could not trust the info you just brought forward, people would share their research freely, even if it was not confirming WT teachings. That is totally gone now. Everybody is sitting on his own island. All the control tightening is wearing everybody out.
Everyone is worn out, when it's supposed to be refreshing. Not so anymore. Something is seriously wrong but I can't put my finger on it.
