  What would you do if you lost your job?

  Thank you, everybody! I've been ofline for a day or so, taking some of your advice. I went to the dentist to have some work done, while I'm still insured. And I set up a lawyer's appointment to help me fill out my EEO paperwork. We'll be OK for 3-5 months if we have to use savings, but the advice is good, to try to find work and not use it all up. The Union's outraged, because the issue they keep after me about, is illegal per top management directives and the contract. I'm fairly sure, if they persist and try to fire me, after that 6 month period or so, I'll be back. I do have Merit System Protection Board appeal rights, too.

  Pretty scary, meanwhile. Every day, the boss harasses me and follows me around, making rude comments, making faces, and rolling her eyes. I think they're trying to push me to lose it, since they really don't have anything on me. Then they would legitimately have something. Any prayers for strength to endure this would be appreciated, as are everyone's responses.

  All this, for refusing to play along with the cheating!

  If you got fired from your job, what would you do first? Live off your savings? Sell your house? Panic? Borrow from family? Try to find another job, or go to school?

  I ask for thoughts, because I have trouble looming. I was told to cheat by a high-up in our company, and I refused. He got in trouble by his boss, and is now going after me. Of course, the Union's doing all they can to help me, but it's gone a lot farther than I ever thought it could. The boss's boss doesn't seem to want to intervene. I'm facing a 14 day suspension soon. If the Union doesn't get it dropped, the next step's removal. I'm starting to seriously consider contingencies.You know, those "what if's?" What if it really happens?

  We couldn't last too long on just hubby's income. I'd most likely get my job back, but it might take 6 months to a year. Anybody been through anything like this, and how did you survive, mentally and moneywise?

  some "worldly" person looses a large stash of money and then the jw returns it and brings glory to jehovah's name?

  When my Aunt died, my Dad stayed in her house for a month or so to wrap up loose ends of her estate. He said the "brothers and sisters" were knocking every day, wanting to just come in and pick out something to remember her by. Yeah, and not the cheap stuff, I'll bet. He said he had no idea how much went out the door.

  There was a family who lived beyond their means at the Hall, Cadillac, leather coats with fur, nice ring on the brother, etc. The brother used to slide up to my Dad in the parking lot, to borrow money till payday. He didn't want his family to know. Seemed like he started making excuses to not pay back, and Dad got rather bitter about the whole thing, because we cut corners to help this man, and he used the money to buy flashy things. I used to admire the long, beautiful leather coats these girls had, when I was told we couldn't afford one for me. Then I found out where the family got their money, and was I pissed!!

  Dad learned his lesson too, about not loaning money to the Brothers. He meant well though, and it's a shame he got burnt.

  as most of you know, i've been in bed with flu for a few days, and though i'm a bit better today, i'm still feeling very weak, but i'm just about up to an hours' posting.

  i've missed you all so much, and want to thank you for all the good wishes you sent me for a speedy recovery.

  i honestly think i've been shown more love from people on this board who i've never met than many jws that i knew for over 20 years.

  Glad you're getting better, Linda! Maybe a nice hot mug of tea would go down good? If you have to be sick, it's a comfort to have someone who loves you there, to attend to your needs, even when we look ratty! Or imagine we do! Take care!

  Well, the guy was, ahem, able to father five children with his wife, so I don't think he's gay. I think he's bisexual. People often forget that many, many people are attracted to both sexes. I don't think there's a "cure" for that either. That's just how some people are wired! They don't need to be fixed, just allowed to live life in peace.

  i got a phone call from a person that i gave my phone # to.

  and this person said that gays are not welcome here and this is not what this board was really about.

  i told them that this is only one part of the crap that the wts did to people and that we are people too.

  As a DUB, what did you do and hid so as not to stumble anyone?

  i was thinking of all the "concious matters" that you could do if you wanted, but would not tell anyone so you wouldn't get in "trouble".

  one thing that came to my mind is when after having my baby, i wanted to join weight watchers...there were two meeting places to choose from...one close to me and in a church....and one quite far not in a church.

  well, i went to the one in the church, always worried someone would see me(but i didn't really think it was a big deal) so, what did you all hide?

  Oh, well then! Mom and I bought Harlequin paperbacks and hid them to read when Dad fell asleep, but I never did anything with an elder's wife! Haha.

  a segment videoed in las vegas showed an 18 year old getting arrested for prostitution.

  the officer asked her why she was selling herself.

  she explained that her parents kicked her out of their house when she was 16 and she got into hooking to survive.

  The segment about the eighteen year old girl coming from Treasure Island, right? I noticed the way she hesitated after the cop asked her if she'd dropped out of school, and why she was doing this type of work. She acted like she didn't want to say too much, very hesitant and guarded when she said the religion was so strict and she couldn't stand it any more. Just how a Dub kid acts when they're desperate to break free, but still afraid to "bring reproach on Jehoopla's name." Hubby and I looked at each other and wondered if she was a Kingdom Hell escapee, but what a life to escape to. Kind of like the proverbial frying pan, into the fire!

  We'll never know which religion she meant, I guess.

  I was a born-in, but I've changed SO much since I became an adult and left....for the better! I was shy and timid as a Dub, never speaking up, and deferring to my Father, the "head of the family." Therefore, I learned late how to make decisions and to voice my opinions. It took awhile for my personality to emerge, because I always stayed in the background and didn't realize I had opinions!

  Now, I'm assertive about my needs and opinions, and don't let anyone push me around. If I don't like something, or want to go somewhere, I can say so. I am physically much healthier, and mentally too! The only one I try to please, is my husband, and he's happy if I'm happy. No persnickety body of elders and all the snippy wives, and cliquish kids. Who needs it?

  I am still compassionate, and honest, nd I think I'm a pretty decent, moral person. Yes, you can be all those things, and not attend the Kinkdumb Hall, who'd have thought?
