A segment videoed in Las Vegas showed an 18 year old getting arrested for prostitution. The officer asked her why she was selling herself. She explained that her parents kicked her out of their house when she was 16 and she got into hooking to survive. When asked why her parents kicked her out she said her parents were really religious and she couldn't live by their rules. I realize that witnesses don't have a monopoly on this type of behaiviour, but I couldn't help but think that this young women was the victim of "theocratic love." Maybe she'll find a site like this and realize she is not alone out there. Whatever religion her parents follow I hope she can find a way out of her life on the street. I hate stories like this one.
Anybody watch "Cops" tonight?

Yes, I saw Cops tonight. I had to ask myself, "Did I just hear that?!"

The segment about the eighteen year old girl coming from Treasure Island, right? I noticed the way she hesitated after the cop asked her if she'd dropped out of school, and why she was doing this type of work. She acted like she didn't want to say too much, very hesitant and guarded when she said the religion was so strict and she couldn't stand it any more. Just how a Dub kid acts when they're desperate to break free, but still afraid to "bring reproach on Jehoopla's name." Hubby and I looked at each other and wondered if she was a Kingdom Hell escapee, but what a life to escape to. Kind of like the proverbial frying pan, into the fire!
We'll never know which religion she meant, I guess.

Very sad how parents who are entrusted with the care of precious children can just toss them aside like trash because of disagreement over religious beliefs. I knew many who gave this "choice" to thier young adult children (age 17 and 18) - either get baptised as a JW and go out in service regularly or get out of my home. In our area and I am sure most - no one that age could possibly earn enough money to survive. This forces the child into a life they do not want. And these people claim they are Loving Christians? Can anyone show me one account in the bible where Jesus refused to feed or heal anyone unless they converted to his beliefs?
Parents like that should be jailed for emotional abuse. My hubby was the same way when he was a jdub. He was constantly saying if the kids turned 18 and did not want to be "in the truth" he would make them leave. I told him to make sure he gave me time to pack my bags as I am going with them!. Lilly
