Well, I've occasionally asked if an individual knew Brother So&So (naming a relative I'm curious about) and I'm not up to anything! Just up to 5'3" 128 lbs, blond & ditzy & curious about family members still in! I sure hope I didn't set off red flags for anyone, if so, I apologize!

Jesus Cano - sentenced to 2 to 6 years, then deportation
by stevenyc inhttp://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?aid=/20070130/news/701300316/-1/news .
cano, 50, of the hamlet of wallkill, was sentenced in orange county court to two to six years behind bars for propositioning underage boys in middletown last summer.
cano had a u.s. green card when he was arrested last year, but because he was convicted of sex offenses, his card was revoked.

I can see it now, when he turns up at Los Testigos De Jehova... "I am return, mis hermanos, to serve wheeeere the need is grande. They ask me to come back, to heelp heeer, breeng in the lost juans." How wonderful Brother Jesus has not forgot the Brothers at home, giving up his New York City life to come home and encourage them!

Another jw story I got
by dedpoet ini received this in an email from a jw today.
i know the person who sent it, i used to be in his congregation, and he suggested i put it on my site.
i assume he was joking, it certainly isn't going on there, but i thought i'd share it with you guys.

A couple things made this sound to me like another of their bogus, fabricated experiences. First, why would "John" have to work a bunch of extra hours just to pay for a used TV and video? You can get one at rent to own for a pittance per week.
And where was the loving congregation? Why should "Jenny" have been so lonesome?
And, they usually say that once people get back on spiritual track, they get rid of the stumbling blocks to their spiritual progress. I didn't see where "J & J" gave up their electronics, just because they were going to the Hell again.
Another fluffy, heart warming & prolly 50% embellished story! Good enough for an ass-embly experience! Watch for this to come to a convention near you!
Thanks for posting! I get a laugh from these experiences that circulate, but it also reminds me how glad I am that I'm out!

Giving Up The Struggle
by choosing life ini recently realized that i don't know or need to know the answers to the big questions in life.
the details no longer matter to me.
i just kinda gave up on the struggle to be right or in the know.

I just try to do my best every day, be kind to people, honest, follow the ten commandments...and guess what? That's pretty much what Jesus is asking us to do, anyhow! Nothing ever said we have to make 5 meetings a week, go to awful ass-emblies, force ourselves & our little kids out door to door in the snow, underline Witchtowers, die from needing blood, ignore Jesus' birthday, etc.
Maybe I'm deluding myself, but it feels pretty good living this way... simplified, just doing the basic good things, the right things and no rigmarole!

Did your husband hurt his back on the job? He may not be able to work for awhile, and might need extended treatments. You may have to talk to an attorney about an on the job injury claim, so at least his medical bills are paid, though it could mean a huge rift with the Father in Law. He can't just leave your husband to fend for himself and turn his back, if he is technically the employer.
If he hurt his back off work, that's another can of worms. Father in Law shouldn't turn his back on the injury because you're family. Please let us know how it turns out for you!

Does our language betray us?
by Mysterious inhas anyone else noticed how you can tell who is new or fading, who was a long timer, who was never really into it, etc just from the way posts and language are structured?
i think it struck me when i heard someone say they did their utmost to leave the organization..do your utmost..not a common expression in most people's worlds so it still twigged a jw connection.
reading steve hassan's book on mind control reminded me of just how important language is in cult group membership.

Thus, we may find it beneficial to be ever mindful of our speech, should we not, Brothers and Sisters, lest we should stumble the weak ones. "Hence..." that's another word nobody but the Witchtower ancient ones use.GAG! Yep, I wonder what crusty old fossils write the magazines... it's like a long ago language, really dates the writers as from another, elderly generation. How can anyone younger relate to this? If the scary suits and Stepford dresses don't frighten the householders (who uses THAT word today?) the geriatric language will! Are we not grateful?

Sleeping during meetings
by darth frosty ini was just remembering some of the great sleep i used to get at the meetings.
towards the end i would sleep while reading for the bookstudy and the watchtower lesson.
who can top that?
-
Virgochik
It was just the sweetest deepest sleep on earth, with pleasant dreams, just because it was so naughty, I guess. Then it was just as miserable to get thumped on the forehead and brought rudely back to reality... drone, drone, drone. Brother Onon Rambles was still going, same as 15 minutes ago before Mom thumped me or yanked my ear lobe!

JWs and Gambling
by JohnnyMarr ini've been inactive for a while and i can't remember the jws stance on gambling.
i'm kinda big into poker now and i want to know what to expect if i'm televised or spotted in a public tournament.
is it a disfellowshipping offense, public reproof offense, or conscious decision?

"The slots drown out her squawking..." hahahaha! No, really! The old Dub sisters go to Vegas just to hear her warble! Why else would they go there? Gambling is the primary reason most people go, and of course it couldn't be THAT...so they eat, and listen to Celine. Preferrably not in that order.

I was
lucky(OOPS! fortunate) that for the most part, my Mom was pretty stable and loving. She used to play games with me after supper, like Parcheesi and Monopoly. Occasionally she'd freak out when I was a teenager because I wasn't spiritual enough. What aggravates the
pisslife out of me, though, is how clueless about life she is. She lived her whole life in a sheltered JW Stepford wife bubble. She greeted Dad at the door in her gingham apron, had dinner ready, and sat modestly at the Hall. She has no idea what I'm talking to her about, when I tell her work is really stressful, lots of overtime, etc. No clue what it's like at all, to work and earn a living. To pay a mortgage, or make a car payment.I too, wonder what she could've been, what talents she might have displayed if she'd done more with herself than cook, sew and pioneer. Not that I'm saying every wife should have a job outside the home, but I do wish she could have developed herself more, enjoyed dabbling in her talents and interests, if she hadn't lived in this little witness wife cage. Well, now she's a sweet little old lady and I do love her anyway. Sad, tho.
