Yes, and I still consider some of them to be friends.
My being df'd sort of interferes with those friendships. lol
They aren't all jerks, not by a long shot.
It's those good folks that are still stuck in the WTS that make my heart hurt.

there are so many horror stories about elders.
many people dislike or can't stand elders, in general.
a number here have been truly hurt by some.

on the net you see many talk about 1975 and how it affected so many.
obviously, some left the organization when nothing happened in 1975. were you personally affected by 1975?
has the fixing of dates been a major reason for your disappointment with the witnesses?
Minimus, you and I came to this board on the same day. And I welcome you, believe me! You have started numerous threads that touch my heart. I could share with you many of my experiences, and sincerely desire to do so.
However, I know very little about you! Another poster previously asked you to share your story, and I have been looking forward to your response.
OTOH, I haven't posted my story either! Wanna make a trade? If so, I will post my story first.
If I am being an ass, just tell me to shove off!
Very sincerely, Craig
i have been coming to this forum since around september 2001 and although i haven't had much to say i have gained a lot by just coming here and reading.
i have laughed and cried and got really angry along with posters here and have enjoyed most of my time here.
now i am moving to the country to be with my daughter and her kids and i won't have internet access there which is a good thing because it will get me out from behind this screen.
Cath, I am so new here we never had a chance to "meet," but I wish you the very best!
Craig
Heaven: Thanks for bringing this thread back to the top. Gives me a sense of the history here.
Simon: When you started this forum, did you think it would be what it is today?
Xandria,
Please disregard my e-mail. I am such a dufus!
Thanks!

like a typical witness goody-goody-two-shoes, i eschewed college in favor of "theocratic pursuits" when i was a teen (i.e.
over 5 yrs at bethel).
now, at age 26, with my eyes opened and purged of the witness insanity, im thinking about college again.
Joe, GO for it!! I didn't start until I was 44, and 6 years later I'm still attending (squeezing in classes around work schedule is a real challenge). And like RandomTask said, it's those humanities courses that will really melt away the mental permafrost we had as JWs.

well, i've reached my goal of 2000+ posts and have decided to move on.
i've never felt that i've contributed much here, anyway, and since my background is not jw, it's easy to see why some here see me as an interloper and trespasser.
i may look in from time to time and (to be polite) be involved in threads i've started, but i need to get a life outside this board.
And I was just getting to know you!!!! Looking forward to your return.
Craig
while having most enjoyed my 4 month tenure here at jwc, i have come across quite a few posters that leave me with this vomitous lynchian feeling in my stomach after having read their messages and responses or retorts to the community - not because they speak of sickening things, but because they are really, really goddamn creepy.
in my opinion, the creepiest poster i have come across is comforter.
he may not be the worlds greatest writer, or even all that scary, but he creeps me out nonetheless.. cast your votes for creepiest poster of all time.
I cast one vote for everybody on this board except me. I'm the only sane poster here. Heck, for that matter, I'm the only sane poster on the planet! Even God checks with me before He posts.
in wider christendom there are some interesting exegetical misunderstandings floating around.
some involve the use of synonyms in new teastament greek.
the most well known is the assertion that "agapao" means the love of god and "phileo" menas the love of man.
<<My little guilt-trip on Stephanus worked! hehehe>>
Looking forward to your further comments
i just can't see the answer to this question.
it may be obvious, so please forgive me if you think i'm silly for asking.. 2 corinthians 4 verse 4 in the nwt:.
"among whom the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, that the illumination of the glorious good news about the christ, who is the image of god, might not shine through".
LittleToe: I have The Online Bible Millennium Edition (www.onlinebibleusa.com). It has a tremendous amount of non-copyrighted material, as well as a number of newer translations available for a royalty. Much of the info is also available for free download from their site.
Bug: It's interesting that Isa 6:10 (re: God blinding the Israelites) is one of the more frequently quoted OT passages (Matt 13:14, 15 + parallels; John 12:40; Acts 28:26, 27). Comp also Deut 29:4 and Isa 29:10, quoted ay Rom 11:8. Certainly shows that, at least theoretically, the "god who blinds" in 2 Cor 4:4 could be Yahweh.
YouKnow: Good points. I know enough Greek to be dangerous (can read and write it, no formal training other than 20 years of study). I too will wait and see if someone else offers a comment.
