Death and the fear of it is what keeps most people handcuffed. How bout the Mexico/Malawi scam. How many were raped, imprisoned and murdered for a 25 cent card. Most witnesses wont admit it, but they serve God Organization out of FEAR not LOVE. Bottom line.

The WBTS really is a dangerous organization
by pratt1 in.
it has been well documented that some extreme cults have be able to isolate their memebers and then have them kill themselves because of their beliefs.. the dubs has always looked at these cults as being mislead by the devil and the dubs would never do anything as drastic a mass suicide.. however as a child i remember thinking that at the begining of the great tribulation, the fds might tell us to run, or congragate somewhere isolated and we would actually leave with on the clothes on our back, and anyone not heeding this warning would be killed at the battle of "armefogotten".. if the fds could get the dubs to leave their home and familes, bascially their lives behind, isn't it just a small stretch to think that a desicion to end ones earthly life could be the next request?.
also remember that particularily the jim jones event, some members had to be physically forced to drink the kool - aid while others freely drank.. does anyone else think that because of the power that the wbts has over it memebers, if they decided to do something drastic, many of the members would just blindly comply?

Got any good questions about Blood issue?
by whyizit ina dialogue has opened up between me and a jw friend about their stance on blood.
just wondered if any of you were ever asked a question that made you think twice, or if you have any questions that you think would be good to ask?
(i don't want to offend this person.

I agree, Ray Franz's work in chapter 9 of "In search of Christian Freedom" was well done. His comparison with blood fractions to a ham sandwich was so simple, but brought the point home so powerfully. You can have ham, cheese and bread : just not all together.

Death and Destruction
by NowImFree ini'm new to this board, only my second time posting, and i have been out of the organization officially since i disassociated about 3 years ago.
i have seen so many bad things in my time as a witness, my disfellowshipped oldest brother committed suicide, prior to that he was terribly shunned by my family, my other brother and sister didn't talk to him for probably 10 years.
two children in my family have been molested by the sons of jw elders in two u.s. states and in both cases the parents were told to not go to the police.

Hello Free, As far as your celebrating birthdays etc. Remember the Angels celebrated the birth of Christ. If it was good enough for them, its good enough for me too. Jesus went to festivals etc. So much we realize once leaving. It hurts I know, I still in process of leaving.

How do you choose......
by EC ini was born and raised a jw.... right now i know i am still going through the deprogramming, but in the pit of my stomach i so want to believe in something.
i don't know if it is because i always have had a regular "schedule" with god, but to leave and not believe anymore to me is very lonely.
where do you start?

Welcome EC, I as well can relate. Recently learning so much myself. In a nutshell what worked for me was not so much ( what do I believe now ) as much as ( what not to believe now. ) It seems you know and will continue to know what not to believe, as far as the WTS is concerned. I agree with most posters here, just time to sift it all out. Time works wonders. A cut won't heal overnight.

Disclaimer Letter
by feelinsketchy inalthough i haven't personally seen the letter (hopefully i will tomorrow night), it seems clear that this would have a serious effect on the core teachings.
how do you go from listen to us unquestioningly, even when we're wrong we're right and if you think about doubting us you're gonna die to "well, all of what we say is open to interpretation and these are just suggestions?
how do you reconcile things like the blood issue, neutrality, holidays, even dress and grooming to this stance?

Skyman, Im still waiting for PMJ to answer you. Guess like the WTS he will skirt the issue.

Do elders get selected because they buy a lot of literature?
by Madame Quixote ini was just wondering today about who buys the bulk of the lit from the jw org.
i got to thinking that the most jw literature i ever saw anywhere was in the kh book store/library, and in our house.
my dad became an elder when i was pretty young; i think it had something to do with all the lit he used to buy at the kh, but can't be sure.

Don't think so, but this thread did make me think how much money they make on the literature.
1: They print it at minimal cost
2: When publishers pick up literature at the hall, they are encouraged to make a donation for it. This means every single mag or book they publish has already been sold.
3: Then when they place it in the field, they ask for further donation for it
4: So even if it collects dust while sitting on their tables at home, the Society has already been paid$$
5: Not a bad scam.

How do you think the world will end?
by free2beme ini was watching this national geographic program called "the end" the other day.
it showed different events that could end mankind and possibly the planet.
in each one, there is true in possibilities and they never showed an example of god destroying the world.

Don't know how it will end, but one thing I do know for certain: " ITS JUST AROUND THE CORNER"
