What is your rating?
by billyboy inas a bit of a newbie , i'm interested as to the overall viewpoint of site users and spectrum of views.. using a crude gauge , where 1 = completely convinced "stepford"jw ("jhs organisation is wonderful etc") and 10 is a completely rabid "tear down the tower" apostate/ex-witness pathalogically hating the whole jw structure , where do you fit in?
(apolgies to both groups - no offense intended).. i'm about 2.5 - somewhat disillusioned , keen for reforms in certain areas but broadly accepts the teachings and loves the lifestyle.
would never leave.

Studying the WT
by startingover inmy loyal dub wife is careful not to flaunt her jw activities in front of me.
whenever she prepares a talk or does any studying, it is at a time when i'm not around.
she always leaves for the meetings with a smile, so she does not try to guilt me in any way.. yesterday i came home unexpectedly and she was studying her wt for the afternoon meeting.

Their studying is just like doing a word search crossword puzzle. They have to find the answer that some-one else has prepared for them. There is no room for independant thinking.

Many Questions
by urstruly inhi i'm new to this forum.
i've looked at other websites to and i see all this about the jw's, now i'm not one, i was raised a jw but made my own decision and my parents respected that.
i've read so many horror stories, but my life wasn't like that at all, as a matter of fact, when they first knocked on our door and my mother accepted a study our life changed for ever, it was for the best in many ways.

UrsTruly: you bring up the blood issue and say a lot of people who are not JW's choose not to have a blood transfusion. At least they do have a choice. JW's do not have that free choice without having repercussions that can effect them and their families for the rest of their lives.

JWs knock on my door three times in one week
by Sirona inmy husband is off work at the moment recovering from a double hernia operation.
the jws knocked one day and our friend, who was here doing a bit of painting for us, answered the door and simply told them he wasn't the householder.. then at the weekend, early on a saturday morning, they knocked again.
i was in my nightclothes and had only just gotten up, or i would have answered.

They have knocked on my door once in twenty-five years.............I must be on there do not call list and that time the old guy that came never looked close enough at the territory card. I hop it is another twenty-five years before they knock again. It has been peaceful.

what's the best experience...
by BlackSwan of Memphis inthat you ever remember having with an elder, ms, co, do, governing body member etc?.
there was a family that i knew growing up, when my dad died, and our family was going through some problems, the dad,an elder in the hall, was the only one that went out of his way to take me under his wing and treat me like his daughter.
really nice guy.. anyone have any good experiences?.

My fondest moments were with a fellow elder. We had been friends for over twenty years. But the good times were not at the Kingdom Hall but in our homes with our wives and friends,(and booze), and also the many fishing trips we went on.Now if I go to the same bank as he goes to he can stand in the next line right beside me and not even acknowledge that I am alive. Some friend! With friends like that who needs enemies.

How does Shunning feel?
by DaveNwisconsin injust curious as i had never really been a true jehovah witness.
i would think that you make friends and suddenly you don't exist.
i would think a board like this is a true godsend.

How does shunning measure up in comparison to "judge not lest you be judged" and
"love thy neighbor as thyself" . Shunning is wickedness in it's highest form.

Generation Change
by slugga ini left the org slightly before the change in the "generation that was alive in 1914" thing was announced and wondered, what were peoples in the congregations reactions after this was announced and did it you notice people falling away because of it?
has it had a damaging effect?

Like P.T. Barnum said there's a sucker born every minute. I think the dubs got them all.

Nathan Homer Knorr - Post your story about him here
by VM44 inthere have been much research lately into the biographies of ct russell and "judge" rutherford, the first and second presidents of the watchtower bible and tract society, but not so much research into the biography of the third president of the wbts, nathan homer knorr.. as there are many people still living, and who also post here at jwd, who knew nathan knorr personally, it might be worthwhile to start a thread about the life and personality of knorr.. so if anyone has any knorr stories, please post them here.
i will start off by posting some basic biographical information.. --vm44.
