I was ratted out by my mom. But I've talked to alot of people who confessed and were df'd anyway. That is a sad case. Obviously for someone to confess their conscience must be bothering them. That is why they are so disillussioned when they are df'd.

for the DF'd: did you confess or were you ratted out?
by kid-A inlooking back at the 10 or so cases of disfellowshipping i recall, i think only 1 was due to the orwellian borg spy system.
he was ratted out.. all the other cases were actually "confessions" by people that otherwise would have gotten away with it.
i am wondering is these percentages.

Merit of Non-Blood Medical Treatment
by billyboy inhow do posters feel about the physicians , doctors , surgeons and others giving their experiences and views in the societies videos and dvds?.
is the prevailing view that these are amateurs and/or stooges who do not represent mainstream medical opinion?
or do some posters feel that these clinicians maybe have some justification for their views?.

Just my opinion, and I'm no doctor, but I do think it is more healthy to avoid blood if possible.
When I was a teen I had to have a spinal fusion for scoliosis. The surgery lasted about 8 hours, and I didn't require a transfusion. My doctor lowered my body temperature, and used a cell saver. This surgeon was awesome! He has written textbooks in Orthopedics and is very talented. He told my mother and I that many times blood transfusions are used because of "sloppy surgeons"--those were his exact words, I remember them.
He also told my parents (my Dad is not JW) that he would not let me die in the OR if something unforeseen happened. He had my blood crossed and typed just in case. But he assured us he didn't foresee any problems. After surgery my blood count was very low, so he kept me on IV fluids and iron. He was very pleased with how quickly I recovered. I was very happy I didn't die. :)

C-sections and blood
by kristyann ini suppose being a student in the field that i am in, i should be more familiar with this topic... but i am not.
i have asked several people and have gotten different answers, all people in the medical field.
so i am going to ask this, even if it sounds dumb... do you require blood when getting a c-section?

Both of my children were c-sections. With my second child, my doctor told me I was welcomed to try a normal delivery but he wouldn't recommend it. Recovery time with the second was must faster because I never went into labor with him.
Three of my cousins, and four friends all had c-sections also. None of them experienced any complications, or required blood. Surgery is always a risk. As far the the WT stand on c-sections, I've never heard them say anything negative--just that you would have to die if things got complicated and you needed blood.

Can you have massive stock investments without slaving for riches?
by dinah inreading through the thread about doing work for churches got me thinking about something, especially the chart on rand cam.. why does the watchtower invest in the stock market in the first place?
couldn't they use that money to build kingdom halls?
to be that heavily involved in the "world" would be prohibited--as least you would think so.

The only proof I've seen are scanned documents online. Where would you have to go to see a hard copy for yourself? Anybody know?

Why does the Watchtower invest in the stock market in the first place? Couldn't they use that money to build Kingdom Halls? To be that heavily involved in the "world" would be prohibited--as least you would think so. Economics rules the world, so that would put them right in the middle of things. And what ever happened to "keeping our eyes simple" and not "striving for riches"?
To me the stock market is also a gamble. Sure, you make an informed decision what to buy, but there is no guarantee. Does that mean that if I am a really good poker player, it's okay to join a game because I'll make and informed decision about betting from looking at my hand?
These are the same people who let witnesses in third world countries go without Kingdom Halls because they couldn't afford to pay back the loan. I had a quote about that, but can't find it now. Has anyone else seen something to that effect?

This may not make you feel much better, Steve, but I can remember being very drunk and very suicidal. If I had gone through with it, I don't believe I would have felt a thing. Thank Jehovah for my children. They are what kept me here until I could get a grip.
Jehovah does give us what we need. (Actually I kinda think Christ is helping us right now-but that another debate). Before I go to bed tonight I will remember you in my prayers, Steve. May you have peace.
And isn't it great to find folks who UNDERSTAND! and don't JUDGE!??
Steve, if anything, Mark's story has made me stop and think that we have to take care of each other as humans. I would say "as Christians" but some here are not, and I love them too. Be assured that Mark's pain was felt by Christ as well. I believe He will put an end to all this nonsense----eventually.

Steve, Mark's story made me cry also. The pain that is felt when you are rejected because you cant measure up is something I can't put into words. Some of us drink, drug, do whatever we feel we have to do to get some relief. The thing with alcohol is the relief is very shortlived--and double pain comes back tomorrow--when that whollop of guilt hits you. You shouldn't heap too much blame on yourself. You honestly were doing what you had been taught your entire life. You didn't know any better at the time. One day you and Mark will be reunited (I firmly believe that) and you can deal with that pain together. My only wish is that somehow "Jehovah's mouthpiece" will be held accountable.

CO calls meeting to discuss association with my parents
by Stress Free ini'm so furious at the moment my keyboard is smoking whilst i'm typing this message.
i just got informed through one of my contacts that at the recent visit to my parents cong the visiting co brought the elders together to discusss with my father who is still an elder, to decide if he should be allowed to associate or even speak with me.
who in the hell do they think they are?

Really sad. My keyboard could smoke too. There's an old saying that something should happen to them and the horse they rode in on. See, I'm TRYING to be nice.

Strangest Local Needs?!?!?!?!
by thepackage inwhat was the starngest local needs topic you ever heard???

Since our congregation was full of teens (this was 20 years ago), we had talks regularly on the subjects of loose conduct, porn, masturbation, drug use, fornication (that last one right before it was announced that I was publicly reproved). We had an elder who used to beat the crap out of his kids, and sexually abuse his daughters--but I NEVER heard a talk about child abuse being wrong. They just demonized the teens.

Double life, anyone??

How many of you lead double lives while growing up (especially those who grew up JW)? In the last few days, it seems that bothers me about my adolescence. I had to be one person for my mother, while still trying to be myself. All the while this was going on, there was the tremendous guilt heaped on at meetings. I didn't notice it was bothering me then.
Anyone else have experiences, and how have your dealt it?
I wasn't a "bad kid" just a "bad jw"--on the inside. Maybe I just wanted to be normal? Yes, I got drunk when I was in the 4th grade, but it was accidental. I had no idea you couldn't drink bourbon like it was pepsi. Had sex when I was 15, but I was just so damn curious. Then I had sex again when I was 18--boom-- a pattern and I was out on my ass. Nevermind that I married the guy. (BIG MISTAKE!!).
Their rules are just hard. I agree with whoever on here said no one should be baptised until after the bloom of youth.
I'm rambling. Tough journey.
