Compare demise of Plymouth Brethren and Witchtower
by hamsterbait inthe plymouth brethren, had the same type of exclusivity as the witchtower, no worldly friends, practising shunning etc, they had sooo many teachings on making everyday life seem like everlasting death - you would think the witchtower babble and trash society was an offshoot.. they have now faded to a hardly noticable group, as their end time prophecies failed, and they were unable to substitute these with something more upbeat than "the satanic trinity" or forcing non believing relatives to eat at another table.. hb.

I've often thought the Plymouth Brethren or the Amish might be good indicators of how the WT society will become.
They may not ever go away as long as the communal security is there to give them protection from a very frightening world. A familiar routine is in place for them and all they have to do is marry within their group and bring up children in it.
We have the so-called Exclusive Brethren in NZ. They have been in the news a lot the last year for making secretive donations to political parties. The women and girls are readily identifiable by their scarves and long denim skirts. The men don't wear ties and they seem to always drive mini vans. Quite a large proportion seem to be 'coppertops' (ginger ;) -

Heh Heh hear that Beavis ? He said 'spanking' Heh Heh
And welcome William. Seriously, the No. 2 school was where corporal punishment was applied but nothing specifically for spanking. -

Catering to the lowest common denominator
by Mickey mouse insorry if the title is obtuse, i couldn't think what to call this.. i was thinking about all the rationalizing and downsizing going on in the organization.
it strikes me that they know they have the die hards whatever they do.
even if they reduced the meetings to 5 minutes per week and named mickey mouse the president .

Yes, when it comes to religious belief and dogma, Jehovahs Witnesses would be the laziest students you'll find anywhere.
It's very comfortable to be told what to think and how to think. No effort required and you'll be patting tame rodents as soon as you can say "M I C you real soon" -

Hi easyreader. By the time I had read halfway through your post I thought,'Hmm this woman sounds manic !'Clever aren't I !? ;)
Is her mood controlled with lithium ? And is she inclined to miss it out when she's up and go back when she's down ?
My experience with people with bipolar disorder is that you can only begin making progress when they have become stable with their meds. and are safe in a routine.
If they feel out of control of familiar events they panic and go in to automatic mode. e.g. the book study has changed, my husbands deviating from a familiar path etc.
I'd suggest get the meds. firmly under control and enlist the elders help to 'take the curse off it'. Chances are the elders will find the whole thing too heavy and bale out. Either result could be a good thing for you.
Secondly, only discuss borg stuff when you are both relaxed and always bring controversial subjects up as "I don't understand.....do you?" She wont percieve you as questioning the Society, just expressing an inability to grasp some dogma and maybe plant those seeds someone mentioned.
Keep us posted,

Gidday ! from across the big ditch.
Good advice about not 'understanding'. With my wife, (oneoftwelve on here), she just had to observe how shocked I was at learning about the UN scandal.
I think the emotional response was what jolted her into finding out for herself what was going on.
Cheers,

Global Campaign with World Wide implecations???
by YoungAmerican inmy mom asked me today if i had received my may km yet.
i wish i could have been honest and said, "of course not mom, i don't go to the kingdom hall anymore and haven't set foot in one in over 10 years", but instead i said "not yet mom, probably tomorrow night".
anyway, she said something about the part where they usually make the announcement about the upcoming summer conventions instead saying something about a "global campaign with world wide implecations".

" that little nagging voice in the back of my head that scares me with what if's.."
Many who come on JWD have made that same comment.
I think when we start to move away from something that we've always been taught to believe we will tend to get a sense of fear from abandoning the safety of that thought.
The key, now, to overcoming your fear of Armageddon/Demons/Elders is to educate yourself and not to be frightened of learning something you weren't expecting. -

Security measures regarding the "big announcement" 4/27
by sir82 inper our po, real "cloak and dagger" stuff.... he received a "highly confidential" letter from the society last week, instructing him to .
1) read the letter.
2) tell no one else about it until 4/27...specifically told not to announce to the congregation "there will be a big announcement next week".

" ok well then the Aussie brothers will know first and anyone from Aussieland will post it here for us to see sunday morning. "
Actually, we'll know 2 hours before Oz. But I don't think any of the NZ posters can be bothered going to the KH to get the jump when it's so cold out!
Come to think of it, the Chatham Islands are a half hour ahead of us but there's no Congs. there. -

Youtube Apostasy!?

i'm not sure if this really a jehovah's witness or just someone trying to make them look bad.
notice his facial expressions as he warns about apostates.

" "if you want to find out about any religion, talk to it's members, not those that have left"
I used to parrot the same 'clever' reasoning. Until someone pointed out that if a second hand car kept coming back on the market you'd be better talking to the former owners about its defects rather than the dealer!
