  What has been your response with telling "devout" JW's about the UN scandal

  i was talking to a elderly jw's lady at the donut shop the other day and i brought up the un and the wt scandal.

  this woman told me that i was lying and that jw's leaders would never be apart of a "satanic" org as the un.

  she said that "apostates" are spreading vivious lies about jw's and are only telling half truths.

  I forgot to mention that I happen to know a lot of ex-witnesses who left during the early 1980 time frame. Most of them had not heard anything about the UN either; I guess that they have just gotton on with their lives and don't follow society silliness much anymore.

  For example, I talk to Betty Dunlap (Ed's wife) about once or twice a month and she had heard nothing of it until this winter. However, none of the ones I told were much surprised by it - probably not too much of anything the WTS does now is going to shock these people. I also don't think Marion Dunlap knew anything about it before he passed away this fall.

  However, all these people are truly aghast at the child abuse coverup - I guess that the horror of innocent kids being totally ignored cannot be overlooked.

  What I cannot reconcile about this is their cover story that it was "just for a library card"??? What in the world would they really need from the UN Library? What could possibly be of so much value there to a religious order which is "no part of the world"...This has got to be the silliest cover story I have heard in years.

  Damage caused by your pets?

  after my dog chewed the internet cable and left me off line for 24 hours, i got inspired to post this topic.

  have your pets caused damage in your house or even beyond?

  my dog also chewed and ruined a couple of shoes and a ten pound note (around $18) that fell to the floor without me realising this.

  Speaking of the newspeak, does anybody remember when there was a ban on saying "human being" - the theory was that only JHVH was a "being"; everyone else is a "creation". And as I recall it was practically demonized to say "lucky" but somehow it was OK to use "fortunate".

  i just got off the phone with a customer from great britain....his accent was sooooo lovely!

  i'm trying my darndest not to melt out of my chair right now..... i swear...a british man could tell me he was going to clean the toilet and it would be hoooottt!!!!.

  C.O / D.O leaving the `truth`???

  this is probobly a long shot & i doubt it`s happened but does anyone know if any circuit overseers or district overseers have ever left.

  if so, in what circumstances?

  I had posted this before on another subject, but we actually had a C.O. who was disfellowshipped while he was at our congregation about halfway into our "VISIT". He told us he had to go back to his old circuit for a "committee matter". He did not tell us it was about him and a single pioneer sister who missed him too much and told all.

  I am also pretty sure that I knew a special pioneer couple who got promoted into a circuit way back in the boonies and wife could not take it. Rumor has it they went back to california and faded out.

  Also, don't know if others realized that Marion Dunlap (Ed's brother) was a substitute C.O. for a long while and took various circuits for the regular C.O. when they were sick or needed leave time. He was also City Overseer in OKC for a time. Of course, he quit along with Ray Franz, his brother Ed, and myself and a bunch of others back in 1981.

  A 1975 story

  while i was in high school in the mid 60's i was told that the end was so near that i would not get to graduate from high school so i should not be concerned about being drafted due to the war in vietnam.

  well i got drafted but did not pass my physical due to a medical problem.. i then considered go to school in the late 60's to enter the medical field.

  i was encouraged by the elders not to do this because the end is so near and why get schooling for a profession that you will not need in a few years?

  Welcome TooBad - I am kind of new here too, and am of the same JW time frame; also a lot the same 1975, draft, and college issues. Graduated HS in 1967 from Putnam City in Okla City and 1971 from Blackwood Business College in OKC.

  (at least I did rebel enough to go to college) And I know exactly how you felt about the 1975 - a lot of us did not really believe at all but just got roped into going along so as not to make waves. Also was pioneer, assist. cong serv and then elder from 1970 to the big blow up in 1980. I got DFed in 1981 for writing a letter in support of Franz and the Dunlaps.
