PMJ, I was trying to be polite, but it is obvious you cut and pasted it. Anybody who has seen your regular posts can vouch that that was not one of them. I was just trying to make the subtle point that maybe you are arguing a side you only support because of who wrote it. If it is not from a watchtower publication, then I as one with an open mind would be interested to know where you got the info, and I would be happy to explore it further. Fair enough?

607BCE or 587/586BCE explained
by truth about the last days inhello all to all my brothers of the faith.
i have some information in relation to the dates 607bce and 587/586bce, with the simple explanation of the 70years exile.
the wt still sticks with the 607bce due to the fact that the governing bodys explains that the jews returned back at about 537bce, assuming that they were finished with their bondage.

PMJ, it appears you cut and pasted that information. Do you truly understand it, or do you believe it because it says so in a publication? No offense meant, I just ask because I spent most of my life believing things just because I saw them printed by the society. It wasn't until recently that I started breaking things down and deciding for myself what makes sense.

JWs knock on my door three times in one week
by Sirona inmy husband is off work at the moment recovering from a double hernia operation.
the jws knocked one day and our friend, who was here doing a bit of painting for us, answered the door and simply told them he wasn't the householder.. then at the weekend, early on a saturday morning, they knocked again.
i was in my nightclothes and had only just gotten up, or i would have answered.

I would just keep avoiding them. It's working for me. It can be nerve wrecking, but on the other hand you have the satisfaction of knowing how hard you are making them work. If they get lazy they may give up.

Eccentric Quiz
You are a:
Inspirational eccentric
You are happy in your own skin and totally aware that you are a little eccentric! You are curious by nature and willing to give anything a go – from pea shooting to toe wrestling! You are totally absorbed by your interests and enjoy your own company – losing yourself in your deepest thoughts is favourite pastime. You're a visionary – thinking using visual images by day, vivid dreams by night. You relish in your own individuality and the power you have to inspire others. Well, off to start my own religion......

Why do you accept ancient religions?
by free2beme inback hundreds of years ago, people actually blamed illness on bad spirits and even believed in bleeding people to cure illnesses.
people would also use leaches on people to get the blood out.
doctors on the battlefield did not do something as common as washing their hands between patients, to avoid spreading infection and disease.

Religion seems to be the one area where it is okay to do something or believe something for no good reason. Not only that, but it considered a good thing. We call it faith. It really is crazy. Science, laws, and reality are somehow discarded if they don't fit in with a religious person's beliefs. I have heard great arguments that say religion should be tested against science and logic just like everything else in our life is.

What do you think they'd do if I did this at the Memorial?
by jwfacts inthis year was going to be the first time in my life that i did not attend the memorial.
but i just thought of something that i would love to try out for a stir.
what do you think would happen if i skulled the entire glass of wine?

jwfacts, that is so hilarious. I have daydreamed about doing the exact same thing. I don't about the rest of you, but when I was active it was like a sport to watch and see who would partake at memorial. Gulping the whole glass would be so stinking funny. they would have to get the glass back, put some more wine in, and then get it back to the person next to you to in order to keep the sequence right. I say do it!!
Darth, I happen to know how they deal with that type of scenario. They form a circle around the person and start moving toward the door. I've seen it happen at a district convention. That way, no one can say they laid a hand on the person, but the person is still forced to move in the direction of the group. It's pretty sick and scary.

Does anyone know the Circuit Overseer, Randy Letcher?
by PaNiCAtTaCk inwe had him in our circuit around a year ago.
he was a very arrogant pianist/circuit overseer.
he came along when i was starting to have strong doubts and after his visits i had no choice but to pursue my doubts.

Randy is pretty much revered here. His niece moved to Estonia to help with "the work", and when she comes to visit her husband gives the public talk and they are treated like celebrities. If Randy came to visit the same thing would happen.

Shunned on my home turf for the first time!
by AlmostAtheist inlong story short -- my father-in-law and uncle-in-law came today to buy some appliances from a friend of ours.
while my father-in-law seemed willing to stretch the "necessary family business" clause to its limits to talk and joke and be basically human, my uncle was cold as a witch's dead penguin.
if i said anything to him related to the task at hand, he answered as minimally as possible.

Hey Dave, Cheers to you, buddy!
Sounds like you handled it well; the fact that you were the polite one speaks volumes about the jw mindset. I do agree with jgnat and others who said you should not have to be treated like that in your own house. I like the way jgnat put it, and here's another idea: "You are always welcome in my house, as long as you bring your manners with you."
Reminds me of a great Screeching Weasel song:
So let the sun shine in
And chase away your blues
Cause frowners never win
And smilers never lose
So let the sun shine in
I know it's f*ckin hard
But it's time you finally gotta
Let the sun shine in

Richie's Elders: Deaf? Dumb? Both?
by RichieRich inlet me preface this by saying that i in now way mean to insult to the deaf/mute community by comparing them to leaders of a very prevalent cult, the jehovah's witnesses.
you see, in the service meeting last night, there was a talk based on an article in the january 2006 our kingdom ministry entitled "young ones: shining as illuminaters".
the brother who gave this part is my book study overseer, and a member of the "richie taskforce", i.e.

Richie, good job man!
To nina, I don't see how he was sneaky at all. He was blatantly honest in a way that the elders can do nothing about. He has figured out how to play their own game to his advantage. I think he will be able to keep a better grip on his sanity because of it. I wish I had been as aware of what was going on at his age.
Keep up the good work, man.
PS - Nina, how come you aren't more worried about the fake kid who smokes and looks at porn? He's the one misleading everybody.

No it's not. He is very well known in Phoenix. His family and extended family are all here.
