Yesterday I quit smoking. Its something I have been thinking of trying for a while, and I finally got round to it. It was a tough day and a sleepless night, I probably had a couple of hours, and I am under no illusions about today being any easier. I am trying to do it "cold turkey", so wish me luck, I 'll keep you all posted with my progress.

"This just can't last much longer...."
by BrendaCloutier ini went over and visited my parents today.
my mom broke her hip while we were in hawaii, and i've been mostly house/bed ridden myself since we got home.
so i finally got over there today.. we talked a little about the hurricane, which was on the news she turned off.

When I was studying I was told that I'd taken a life - saving action just in time, Armageddon wasn't "just around the corner" as many said, it was right in front of us. That was about 15 years ago, and it's still right in front of us, so I was told by the elders who came to see me to confirm my da in a final bid to get me to change my mind. Aah well, the faces in the kh's might change, but the bullshit stays the same

Do you like who you are?
by damselfly ini was inspired by rat's post.
are you a nice person?
melodramatic?

Yes, I like who I am now far more than I did a few years ago. I am no longer trying to live up to anyone else's standards, just my own.

The Number One Reason Why I Am Not a "Watchtower Apologist"
by logansrun ina number of people of late have noticed the concilliatory stance i take towards the jehovah's witnesses -- both as individuals and even as an organization.
they have quite rightly pointed out that i appear to "defend" the organization and it's members from attacks that i feel are unwarranted or unnecessary.
too often, i feel, this forum becomes a gripe session in which mighty ex-jw throngs feel the need to paint the organization or individual jws as totally devoid of any good qualities whatsoever.

Terry, I very much enjoyed reading your post. I found myself nodding in agreement as I read it. Thankyou very much for putting into words how myself and, I am sure, many others on here feel about the watchtower.

Why No Knocking ???
by Jeannine inmy husband and i are not jw's.
my husband sympathizes with the religion because his entire family is "in".
as a result, he has come to know a local jw (non-relative).

Hi Jeannine, and welcome. The trick of leaving literature without attempting to make contact is a common one amongst JWs. He's probably run out of things to say that will get you into a Bible study, so now he's using scare tactics. He will probably knock again sometime in the future to see if he's softened you up enough to study with him. I love the idea of leaving him a note to stop posting death threats through your door, I wish I'd thought of that when the JWs first came a - knocking here.

JWs and Dinasours
by Jeannine ini apologize if this question has been answered on this board previously.
what is the jws position on dinasours?
according to jws, when did dinasours roam the earth ?
-
dedpoet
We still have dinosaurs on the earth. There are 12 of them, and they live in New York, in the area known as Brooklyn. How do I know this? Well, there were photographs of them on a thread on this Forum only a few days ago!

If you were paid to be an active JW, would you accept?
by JH in.
even if you don't believe in what you'd preach, would you accept being a jw in return for a salary?.
why not?

There isn't enough money around for me to do that again, and I might get someone interested in the lie. I wouldn't want that on my concience, so no thanks

Will the WTBS ever relax the current clothing/dress/grooming standards?
by Utopian Reformist inas numbers and meeting attendance statistics continue to decrease in western lands, do you think the wtbs may someday relax it's current clothing and grooming policies to facilitate better attendance and make the meetings more comfortable?
.
please share your opinions of why/why not.

I haven't been to a kh for some time, but the elders in the one I used to attend had strict rules on grooming etc. I have known brothers be couselled if they dared to turn up for a meeting with a beard, and one brother received a phone call ordering him to shave his beard as he had a talk that evening. Its the same bunch still in charge, so I imagine the rules haven't changed much either
