What was your favorite thing about being a witness?
by dezpbem inwhile i didn't like being a jw there were 1 or 2 good points.
what was your favorite thing about being a jw?.
mine was all the parties and social gatherings we had.
-
dedpoet
I don't miss anything about being a jw. Sure, some of the social gatherings were good, but the ones I have now are better. The "friendships" I made were all conditional, unlike the ones I've made since. My favourite day as a jw was the day I left.

Were the "Pioneers" in your hall treated with favoritism by the Elders?
by booker-t init seems that all of the parts on the theocratic ministry school were given by the pioneers in my old hall.
also the elders were always complemented on how "sister pioneer" is so zealous and loves jehovah.
as if sister not pioneering hated jehovah.

I'd have to say yes. In my kh there were 6 pioneers, I hear there is just 1 now. I was one of them, and we were treated almost like royalty by the elders, got invited to loads of meals at bro's houses, more privileges than almost anyone else, I was fast tracked to ms because I was a pioneer.

What is wrong with me?
by Crumpet ini just went out for only the second time in the last three months since i broke my leg - to socialise - for a meal with a girl i haven't seen for a year.
she kept saying nice stuff about me and how she liked me and so on.
so why do i feel so dreadful and didn't believe her..

Crumpet, there is NOTHING wrong with you. I have always thought of you as kind, sincere and supportive of everyone on the board, especially newbies.
You are very attractive as well. We haven't met in person, but if we did I rather think I would like you
take care

they just called on me
by pc inan older woman and a younger woman with a baby in a stoller knocked on my door.
my house is so decorated with spider webs, pumpkins, skulls, gravestones, etc.
when i opened the door the crawling hand and candy dishes started thier seperate sounds and music, i just started to laugh.. she didn't introduce herself as one of jehovah's witnesses, she said she was doing volunteer work.

Well done pc, you handled it well, and maybe, just maybe, you made her think. Lets hope so

How much money would you have to win, to quit your job?
by JH insome people love their jobs so much, that even if they won a couple of million $ playing lotto, they would still keep their jobs !!!
sounds stupid, right?
but i guess some have wonderful jobs, and money isn't everything.. how about you, what's the minimum you'd need to win to say, good bye boss ?

I reckon £500000 - 750000 would see me into retirement

My friend fulofdoubnow (Linda)
by dedpoet inas many of you will know, my friend linda left the wt last night, and i had the privilege of sharing the moment with her.
and it was a privilege - she was so cool when she approached the po, i think i was more nervous than she was!
last night was kind of euphoric for both of us, but now i guess the hard work begins.

As many of you will know, my friend Linda left the wt last night, and I had the privilege of sharing the moment with her. And it was a privilege - she was so cool when she approached the po, I think I was more nervous than she was! Last night was kind of euphoric for both of us, but now I guess the hard work begins. I just spoke to her on the phone, and she is still feeling great. I read a few of your replies to her post out to her, and she will be here later, after she finishes work around 10pm UK time, to thankyou all.
After over half a lifetime being around the jw religion, breaking free won't be easy, but she's made a good start. She knows I'll be there for her, and in some ways more importantly, she knows most of you will be too, and believe me that is important for her, more so than maybe you think, so thanks for the welcome you have given her and all the support. I knew I could rely on you all.
The only downside for me is that she's hijacked my pc, she'll probably be using it more than me now! (only joking, I'm happy to let her).
Well, time to go to work, see y'all

The benefit of JWD
by Lady Lee ini know i have made comments about the benefits of jwd but i have some thoughts about this.. for the person who is having doubts and is looking for some confirmation or information jwd provides a wealth of both.
and if it isn't posted here on the board someone usually has a link to answer questions.
for those who have been hurt by the shunning policy or been abused in some way jwd offers wonderful people who understand because they have "been there" too.. for those who are recently out of the wts and are trying to build a new life there are many to encourage and support them.. even those of us who have been here and out of the wts for a long time there is encouragement and friendship.. for those who love a good debate, there is usually a willing jw to try to take them on.. there are some great sites on the internet that provide information.

This is a great forum, a life saver in many ways. I haven't been around the jws for some years, but I have benefitted a lot in the few months I have been on here. Its great to be among people who have shared experiences of leaving the cult.
I intend to be here for a long time to come

I gave the PO a letter tonight
by fullofdoubtnow intonight was the school/service meeting at the kh, and myself and dedpoet drove there at the end of the meeting to see the po.
we didn't go in the hall, we just waited outside the gates for the po to come out, then i handed him my letter, saying it was to get things over with and save the necessity of a jc.
he didn't ask what it was, i think he knew, especially when he saw dp give me the thumbs up sign, but asked me to reconsider, but i said my mind is made up, i am leaving, and i want it out in the open as soon as possible.

Linda,
I know I congratulated you personally last night in person, but I'm gonna put in writing as well.
You handled a difficult situation brilliantly with the po, you stood your ground, told him your mind is made up, and refused to take your letter back even when he spelled out the implications of it to you.
I was so proud of you, and proud to be there when you did it, thankyou for the privilege. It's a night I will never forget.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!
