hopefully this will be a topic that gets you thinking and many persons will have funny stories to tell.
apologies if it's been done before but i'm new here.. .
my dad once gave a talk directed at the young persons in the cong.
My parents NEVER embarassed me............................................
(but then maybe Im saying that cos my mum has juust joined this site and will probably read my posts!!!!)
do you know how to cook, even just a few simple recipes, or do you hate the idea of home cooking and prefer to always rely on restaurants and take aways, or just prepare easy snacks like sandwiches and melted cheese on toast?
Im ashamed to say ive been eating way too much take-away food just recently- we have recently moved house and we still havent settled into a proper routine. Danzak curry is soooooooo good!
My wife makes an amazing lasagne- its now my favourite meal. She is a brillaint cook and looks after me well!!!!
how many of you really enjoyed any of the jw's spiritual paradise found in joe hoba's visble organisation?
I used to feel I'd accomplished something when i finished studying my watchtower for the sunday meeting- but thats hardly a "spiritual paradise"... maybe its a "spiritual back garden- small, with a couple of shrubs and plants, maybe a rockery, but short or paradisical status"
.
when i read some of the posts i cant help wondering that things do not go always the same everywhere.
.
Blimey. Can you imagine a belgian sister whipping her top off during a conservative british congregation barbeque? The football would stop.... the PO would choke on his burger...... childrens eyes would be covered, the MS's would pretend they didnt notice, the gossipers would pause for a moment and everyones jaw would hit the floor. And if it was caught on camcorder??? How much would THAT be worth?
i get the impression that generally the rank and file jws are to be thought of as victims whereas the governing body are the real and only villains in this organisation.
.
do you think this is a valid opinion especially when it comes to the elders and circuit/district overseers who willingly enforce the gb's often criminal policies?
Thing is the JW's are so blinkered by the GB that how can they not believe?? JW's have an answer for everything, and if they dont then you "just have to put your faith in Jehovah". I grew up in the 'truth' and I honestly believed everything I was told. Im certain there were many many like me.
I can understand that there are some elders who abuse their authority, and are quick to implement their own view of things upon the cong. This is wrong in itself, but the way the GB have conducted themselves in 'secret'- NGO, Mexico/Malawi, child abuse cases (question- why were they so re-active to that? As opposed to pro-active? If they really had Jehovahs blessing- then WHY did they get this so so wrong??) is despicable. They are the true villains.
I just cant believe how this site has helped me open my eyes.
this is an email forward i got from a friend.
interesting.
you make the choice don't look for a punch line.
Regardless of whether the story was real or not the principle is there.
Thanks for the story GBL. It reminded me of a true story, i think in the UK, where a little kid had cancer and had to have extensive kemo. When he was well enough to go back to school, his hair hadnt had time to grow back but determined to get back to a normal life he went to school anyway. His classmates went out of their way to welcome him back- with special permission from their parents, ALL of them had their heads shaved- so the little kid wouldnt feel uncomfortable coming back to class.
Made me sob when i heard it.......
so, i will be down and out for awhile after a little surgery this week and i am trying to get a few books to keep myself amused and i am looking for suggestions on something you may have read recently and enjoyed.
i prefer non-fiction, but will consider reading anything highly recommended, as long as it contains at least a spark of truth.
well, i will recommend a book to you alla few days ago, i finished reading into the wild by jon krakauera biographical story about a young man who, after graduating college, got rid of all of his belongings and hitch-hiked across the country in search of jack london-esque adventures.
Ive nearly finished reading John Grisham's The Firm ( i know its a film, but I havent seen that either) Before that I read 1984 by George Orwell- I wanted to read that again after someone on here likened Big Brother the the JW's- so i re-read it with a different perspective.
Next in line is either- Crisis of Conscience by Ray Franz (have you heard ot it??? lol, kidding!!) Its on order from my library, im not sure when i will get it- or Runaway Jury by John Grisham, I love his stuff. Anyone like Dean Koonz?
Cant believe he got off that! There was just far too much smoke for there not to be a fire.
i have been df for a nummber of years now and have recently been doing research via the web for the past few weeks.
mostly because my new husband has been also doing his own research because i have been saying for years i want to go back, but never have and he had questions about the religion that he didnt understand.
the only time i ever go to the hall is for the memorial.
I just wanted to add that Tez is my Mum- and I love her very very much!!!!
