this is a phenonoma often discussed by jw's.
how unique is this idea to jw's?.
anyone got any good stories on this subject?.
We never had anything bad happen that related to demons that I know of.
I did however; buy a bureau one time from a thrift shop. The drawers were rather hard to open, after dealing with that for a few months, one day I asked my JW husband if there was anything he could do to fix them.
We took all the drawers out and noticed, stuck in behind the top right was a couple of papers. One was a drawing of Satan, and on it was printed "I'm a little Devil", the other had a brief poem about a devil, both looked like something from a child's coloring book.
We both thought it odd, given the circumstances, instead of freaking out we just laughed about it and threw them away.
Nothing ever came of it.
For instance, a high percentage of people experience sleep paralysis, where they wake but are unable to move.
and do you normally eat more "nice" festive dinner on friday evenings?.
tonight i'm having tacos.
have a great weekend everybody and enjoy your mornings without any early meetings for field service.
I'm so sick of cooking, I think it will be chili fast and easy.....
I'm with Hope, chili it is...

my mother let it slip the other day that all the families in their hall are putting together a small suitcase.
inside this suitcase are to be things that you will take with you if given a 5 minute warning that the great tribulation is starting and you need to leave your home.
my father seemed quite embarrassed that this slipped.
Memorize each other's phone numbers and addresses so the Nazis couldn't find a written list.
I remember this, we also were told NOT to keep a telephone book with the Brother's phone numbers and addresses in it. In the event our house was raided and they found the book, we would be responsible for the other brothers being found out.
Being fairly new at the time, I asked about stocking up and being prepared. I was told there was no need, as it would more than likely be taken away from me.
Way to make a new convert feel like "WTF, have I gotten into?"

has anyone done a survey to determine what faith system, religion, or set of religious beliefs ex-jws tend to settle into after leaving the organization?
if not, would you care to post what you presently consider to be your own personal religion (e.g.
protestant, catholic, baptist, jw but not in the organization, agnostic, atheist, ...) and especially what you presently believe about jesus (was he a real historical human, is he god, is he an angel, ...).. thank you!.
At the moment I consider myself an agnostic, but open to new ideas and views for consideration. I can't see myself ever involved with organized religion again.
As for Jesus, I do believe without a doubt, that he existed, on the other hand... I'm not totally convinced that he was God's son.

each hall has their own "spirit'.
some congregations are very strict.
others more liberal and still others, a little in between.
Seriously ?
If so, I never heard of him. I find it hard to remember any of my former CO's names. The only one I do remember for sure, was a Brother West. Loved him, he made every visit fun, and always included the children.

when i was a teenager i extensively studied nearly every publication.
i especially enjoyed looking up the root words meanings in the hebrew and greek of the bible language.
it gave me the flavor of a word and its origins.
Just reading and underlining whatever it was we were studying. Often times I didn't even read the scriptures that were listed in the paragraph.
This was me also,
There were a few times I would go in-depth, but still with the JW mindset, so it all made sense if I looked at it with their teachings in view.

Did Hitler Elder win out?
"Hitler" always won out in our cong. too, it was his way or the "Highway"...
Rather sad, in a way... I knew him when he first came became a witness, as a convert, with an obvious need for power and control. It was evident then, that even his family members were afraid of him.
He took the ball and ran with it, in a relatively short time. Many petty rules we followed were based on his opinion alone.
For ex. he felt that if a TV movie said it was "edited for TV" then it wasn't fit for a JW to watch as it could still be an R rated movie in disguise. Just stupid things like that, like there was no way it could have maybe been edited for timing.
Many times I, and others, heard him, or a one of his family say... "Well, we're Jehovah's Witnesses", we're not sure what YOU are". So stupid.
It seemed he enjoyed making the r/f nervous by always "Cracking the Whip". The meeker brothers didn't stand a chance against him. To make matters worse, it seemed all the CO's loved him. Go figure.
I couldn't stand him, and he knew it... sometimes I wonder if that had a bearing on my spirituality. So glad I got out of there.

I would have to say our congregation was rather tense, given to the fact that our PO was Hitler re-incarnated.
I tried to be spiritual, I really did, but I just couldn't keep my real feelings about certain things from showing in my facial expressions or attitude. Did a lot of eye rolling.

is there anything in writing on that?
or is that just something that gets passed around orally?
-- i was about to tell someone about it, but wasn't sure if i could prove it or not.
NOW - please - I don't know 1 JW that doesn't shop at the thrift shop and BRAGS about the deals they find....
Same in my old congregation, if it wasn't for thrift shops and yard sales, some of these people wouldn't have had anything.
