Halloween/holidays
by Jules Saturn indidn't know exactly which subject area to put this under, but i was curious about what you guys do around this time for holidays, particularly halloween.
my view on halloween in particular has always been as this pagan, demonic celebration.
even now that i discovered ttatt i still feel the same way i do about halloween, i don't ever think it's something i'd celebrate.

For non jw's Halloween is but once a year. jw's have their own Halloween everyday.
Non jw's dress up, have fun, candy, pumpkins, roast seeds and yes some like it to be scary all in good fun. I don't know why humans like to scare themselves but many do. Scary movies and books on occasion then forget about it for the most part.
jw's "Halloween" is each and every day. A jw loves nothing more than a good scare only theirs is often real. A jw revels in shootings, hurricanes, wars and any time there is mass destruction and loss of life. They seem to get a sick kick out of mayhem and look forward to their version of 'end times' are upon us. They love to think the devil and demons are out to get them personally on a daily basis or that you and I are 'filled' with demons.
Which is scarier, a person who dresses up one day of the year and attends a party with others dressed up as something scary or as a product, book character, etc... Or, someone who lives it everyday?

PERSECUTION (and I tell you why I named this topic title)
by HiddlesWife ini've noticed that even though i'm inactive, i'm getting treated very badly by a number people inside the borg and outside of it.
(1) from inside: various brothers and sisters from the cong i'm associated with/occasionally attend are being influenced--especially by pioneers, a couple of mss and their family members--to shun me, my siblings and my cousins.
three (3) of my close friends in the cong (two who are developing doubts) are really beginning to feel "the heat" from these "popular/privilege of service" ones.

I'm sorry you seem to be having a difficult time. Be friendly, they will come around. People get nervous around cult/ex cult members sometimes. Try and see it from their point of view and see how your opinion changes. Most people know very little about jw's or cults in general.
You see yourself as 'persecuted', perhaps that is the problem. Do you look for little injustices instead finding small acts kindness from people? For one day try to find something nice about each and every person you come in contact with and see if your and their dynamics change. Be the kind of friend/workmate you want from others and soon you will see the change. Exude love and it will come back to you, might take a bit but it will eventually.
As a non jw have great difficulties with jw's and some exjw who like to claim 'persecution' whenever they feel they have been mistreated, misunderstood or someone disagrees with them. In my mind the people who get their heads cut off for their beliefs are persecuted, those who are imprisoned for their beliefs are persecuted, hung from a Cross and so on. It just seem rather melodramatic when jw's claim 'persecution' when folks don't care for their arrogant judgmental attitudes. Not saying that is the case with you but I have seen it in my jw at times and he likes to claim I persecute him whenever I disagree with him on all things jw.
You said, "getting the shaft/the heat because of the life course I've taken." the beauty in that is that is it is only one life course you have taken, now you can change direction and take a different course. You still have time.

JW Stumper Questions - List You Best Here
by pale.emperor inhi guys.
sooner or later we're going to get a jw knocking on our door.
just like when we were jw's doing the knocking, it's good to have a question prepared to get them thinking about their own beliefs.

Parents who try to make you feel guilty.
by NJ501 inwhen parents say all the things we've done for you and your not doing anything for us in return like going to meetings, witnessing, answering up etc... how do you respond to parents?.

original question- "When parents say all the things we've done for you and your not doing anything for us in return like going to meetings, witnessing, answering up etc.."
How is going to meetings, going door to door, etc... 'doing' anything for the parent? the only way it would be 'doing' anything for the parent is the parents standing with the rest of the cong. That sounds pretty selfish to me that they are worried about their own reputation rather than the spiritual/mental/physical well being of their child.
What do normal non jw's 'do' for their parents? they help them with yard work, household chores/fixing things, they go to lunch or bring a meal over, they call them and check up on them on a regular basis, etc.... they actually help them in real tangible ways no matter what their beliefs are. They honor their parents by being there and loving them in person. The parents gratefully accept and love their child even when the child believes some goofy thing or does stupid things in life. They know, in their wisdom, that we all must make our own mistakes and in the end will be responsible for our own eternity whatever that may be.
But then they have what some call 'natural affection' for each other. Something the wt regulates and allows or disallows depending on the current wt rag. How many times has the policy flip flopped?
The jw parent could, if they wished, to have a normal relationship with their non jw children. If they put love before men. The jw parents could change the entire shunning policy if they had just a bit of courage.

To my jw I would like to ask-
When the Catholic pedophile issue was in the news on a nearly daily basis for awhile you said the truth was coming out and how great it was. In fact you looked forward to each new story. When a pedophile jw story comes out you think it is a lie, an apostate trying to get publicity or money, and so on.
It upset you that the Catholic church would simply move a priest to another location without telling the church that he may be a problem, and rightly so. The jw's also allow known pedophiles to remain (as long as they cry and are sorry in a jc meeting) or move to new congregations without telling the congregations there may be a problem with the person. Tell me how are the two different?

As bad as it was for you when you were jw's not standing it was awful for me as a ubm standing next to my sitting jw during the anthem. One time there was a Korean Vet next to us, I felt terrible and tried to distance myself from my jw as if I wasn't with the guy! At the time the only other person sitting in the entire crowd was a person in a wheelchair.
I wonder how jw's view it now? With so many people sitting (or kneeing) does it water down their own 'protest' of not standing? They aren't as 'special' anymore?

In the last 20 years How Many Changes Have Occurred in Watchtower Beliefs?
by minimus injehovah's witnesses say that they have the truth and the truth is constant.
they believe that what they teach is the truth that comes directly from jehovah god.
can you think of anything that has changed in the last 20 years to show a jehovah's witness that the truth is not necessarily the truth..
