Next step- I said goodbye to my best friend- and she was terrified of me!
by New light for you inso the next step i realized after meeting with the elders monday night was to say some "goodbyes" while i'm still able to.
now, the elders kept "wanting" me to "fade" .
.. again, many people are telling me that they might be nice, but when they report back to the whole body, they could decide something else.

WELL done. It's awful, and messed up, and wrong in so many ways, but probably the only way to handle all the separations. When I was just about to be dfd I told all of my friends instead of letting them hear it at the k/hall or through other people. I'm a bit bummed that I didn't entirely have it together then, and I was telling them all that I'd be reinstated, but I did get to have one last conversation with them and I was actually in a really good frame of mind during that period. I had this feeling that life was changing in a good way, in a way that I had control over. It makes me feel good about those last dignified conversations I had with a lot of people who I now know were never my friends at all.

Glad that you both sound so happy! Keep reminding her how much you love her - be extra-sweet for a little while. Keep her reminded that you're her greatest ally.

A story about somebody dying at the DC recently (it's pretty depressing):
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/7/160731/1.ashx
I remember the last international at Sydney a few years ago, there was a huge Japanese delegation and they loved wearing their big traditional garb and we loved having quirkly things like that happen at conventions that make us all look like a big loving brotherhood. Anyway one lunchtime they had a special session for the Japanese pilgrims. The seating set aside was the only place in the whole (120000-seat) stadium that was in the sun, actually facing it, midday in Sydney, in the spring, which if you haven't put the pieces together, is pretty hot. There were several hundred of these poor meek folks in their multi-layer special outfits fanning themselves with watchtowers, fainting and being carried out. My brother's f-i-l was in first aid and my brother, his wife and I went over to the nearby pub and bought a few crates of bottled water to hand out. The session was cut short because too many ambulances were needed.

Relationship Rescue (or how Dr. Phil got me out)
by Gladring ini was going to post this in the thread about what one comment helped you see the light but it became a bit too long and i thought the subject might be interesting in it's own right.
i've been hanging around for a while feeling like i should tell my story and this thread has caught me at a good time.
i was born in to the religion, baptized at 15, reproved at 17, married at 22, ministerial servant at 25. i'd had questions in my late teens and twenties but i convinced myself that i loved jehovah and wanted to stay and so i squashed those feelings.

Hi and welcome! I'm glad you had a scales-falling-from-the-eyes moment, you'll find that you have many of them. I have tried for ages to pin down what it was for me and I just keep getting so many.
One of them was thinking of all the times OT god killed children just because he was spiteful and petty. The Israelite wars, the kids who were killed for teasing the smelly old prophet, the kid who was killed for touching the ark of the covenant when he was actually trying to stop it from falling over. They're all fables, I know that now, but it made me wonder how loving this guy really is anyway.

Wedding Talks
by Alexia ina few weeks ago, there was a thread started on jw funeral talks and how horrible they are, but what about those wedding talks?.
talks that has nothing to do with the couple itself, but an advertisement about how wonderful marriage in jehovahs organization is.
*eye roll * the worst is when they have to bring up sex in the marriage in a wedding talk *barf*.

I must have been to fifty JW weddings. Many of them were by the same bro, nice enough bloke, but I could give it myself now I knew the talk so well. The last one I went to added an interesting twist; he did five minutes on 'pheromones' and how they're so active when we're young but they wear off and you lose interest in each other. It was appalling. I said so while it was going on, quite loudly to somebody near me, I was up the back in the crowded hallway where I thought nobody could hear. Everybody did, apparently.
We left the reception early.

My list of top five favourite things to do includes skiing, even though I'm crap at it. Our season has just started and in a couple of weeks we're going to NZ for some spectactular fields. Life is GREAT.
