And it all depends where the congregation is. I lived in a big college town, where half the hall is students. So of course it's ok, as long as it's in it's "proper place". The other halls, it's a "conscience matter" which is code for it's your choice but you what the right answer is.

Is College now wrong for Jehovah's Witnesses again?
by booker-t ini have been out of the jw's for many years now but i still have devout jw's family members.
and i am attending college now at 40 yrs old working on my ba degree.
i was so happy a few years ago when my jw mom told me that the wt is slacking off on telling jw's teenagers that college is bad and it is ok to attend college and universities.

Can JW's take vacations.....from the truth?
by JH in.
when jw's want a vacation, they have to go someplace to justify that they aren't at the hall.
so often we hear that brother of sister "x" went to hawaii for 3 weeks, and everybody is happy.. but, if a jw doesn't have the money to take a real vacation, but just wants to take, lets say 3 weeks off, and stay at home without going to any meeting, can it be done without questions asked, just like the couple going to hawaii?.

We have talks down here, EVERY SUMMER, on the need to look up local halls when we travel. And they always say, vacation shouldn't mean, vacation from the truth."

OK, I got bored and pulled out the 6/1/05 WT and scanned through it. One article grabbed my attention due to the fact it hit a topic I posted on last week, works. It’s entitled “Saved, not by works alone, but by undeserved kindness.” From the first paragraph my BS alarm was going off. With these words:
Ok, if that’s the case their wouldn’t be a need to keep records on individual time, would there? There wouldn’t be guilt driven talks about “low hour publishers.” They wouldn’t announce the names of pioneers from the platform so the audience can ooooohhh and ahhh for 5 minutes. This point is carried on further in the article by the sub-heading “Not in Comparison With the Other Person.” It goes on to quote Gal. 6:4
Ok, again, in himself alone. Why is time reported so religiously? Then it goes on….we do all we can do. Then at paragraph 11, the whole tone changes, almost like someone else took over the writing. Then next subheading “Proper view of our work” And you guessed it, proper view means doing ALL WE CAN!!!!. It continues on telling the importance of reporting time. And the only scripture used for that is:(Mark 6:30) 30 And the apostles gathered together before Jesus and reported to him all the things they had done and taught.
And this where the subtle indoctrination comes into play. My first thought was, ok, report to Jesus the only way they can directly, through prayer. Then it hit me how carefully and sneaky they do it….report to Jesus…….JESUS = ORGANIZATION The R & F would never catch this, never question it. It just amazed me how they do it. It is a “study article” so I look forward to Blondie’s take on it when it comes up. -

Potty Mouths?
by Low-Key Lysmith inwhen i got out of the dumbs, i use to cuss non-stop i think as a pathetic tactic to make worldy people think i was a little more worldy.
i still swear from time to time, and foul language does not offend me at all, but i was talking to my sister the other day, she just turned 21, has discovered alcohol, is currently on public reproof, and i think is really close to being on her way out herself.
she cursed like a sailor the whole time i was talking to her.

New member - quick hello
by melmoth injust registered and thought i'd say hello.
been browsing the board here occasionally for a while, and thought i might want to join in now and then, so here i am.
for me, a lot of this brings up odd memories from long ago - though for many struggling in the jehovah's witless grip currently, it's clearly a lifeline and i wish it had been around when i was 'doing the fade' (as i've seen it referred to, and a great way to put it, btw) nearly 20 years ago.

I'm giving plasma tomorrow!!
by Frog inwell actually i'm giving the whole bit, plasma, platelets, while/red cells...for the first time and i'm very excited!
sounds very massochistic, but it's not for the love of pain, it's just that it's taken me so long to become mentally ofe' with it.
i've had a mental block about it for so long, but have gradually enabled myslef to overcome it by educating myself more fully on the subject.

The Mosaic Law and JW's
by jimakazi injesus did away with the mosaic law.. .
on this basis jw's eat pork if they wish, do not have to maintain a beard, and do not observe the sabbath.. .
however the jw's seem to apply aspects of the mosaic law when it suits them - for instance they often quote it to support their postion on blood.

Jesus did away with the mosaic law.
On this basis JW's eat pork if they wish, do not have to maintain a beard, and do not observe the sabbath.
However the JW's seem to apply aspects of the Mosaic law when it suits them - for instance they often quote it to support their position on blood.
Keep in mind though, they believe the law as a whole was done away with, but Paul in Acts 15:19-21 brings up blood as one of the aspects of the law that should be followed in principle. Personally, I believe they do it, much like a media ploy, as something to point to say they are different from other religions. If they were serious about it they would follow it as strictly as the Jewish faith regarding blood.

by DannyBloem ini had a long talk with an elder i know very well this morning.
