This concerns an ' 03 Topic about ex-elders and should they apologize
by juni ina poster on this site was kind to direct me to an ' 03 topic for discussion that dealt with the question whether ex-elders who were on a jc should feel responsible for the hurt and damage to families that suffered df in their family and therefore seek these ones out and apologize.. some felt that these elders were only following what they felt was expected of them and others felt it was a good idea.. how do posters here who were former elders on jc feel about this now?
thank you to all for your input.

Bible reading without the WT filter
by watch the tower inyou know even though i think the wt doctrine is mostly all garbage now, i still do believe that the bible is inspired from our creator.
the flaw in my understanding of it in the past was because i was interpreting it through the filter of the wts.
recently i have started clean slate and read the bible without the wt filter (easier said than done, your mind has a way of reverting back to what was programmed in there).

CoC or ISoCF
by TheListener inwhich of ray's books would you recommend someone read first.
coc does a great job of explaining ray's situation and the results.
while covering some major doctrines along the way.

Russell of Annointed, how do you know?
by Woodsman inwhen russell started the wts and began promoting his epistimology the teachings were not what they were today.
most noteable was that christ was present in 1874. thus he believed he and others were chosen by christ to be of the elect remnant who would serve as part of the 144,000 the witnesses recognize today.. the problem occurs when the wts, or judge rutherford, changed 1874 to 1914. .
now christ did not perform any "inspection" until 1919.. he did not chose any fds until 1919.. well, russell was dead in 1919.. therefore prior to 1919 russell was just as any other christian group was.

Why the term "publisher"?
by Gander indoes anyone know why the term "publisher" was chosen to describe an individual that goes from door-to-door preaching about the bible as a jehovah's witness?
was this term always used?
it certainly makes the focus of the work to be aimed towards literature distribution over anything else.

ExJWs: Get Used To It : THE WATCHTOWER WILL NOT DIE OUT
by steve2 inthere is a precident for the jws becoming more hard-lined: the exclusive brethren.
prior to 1959 the exclusive brethren, whilst conservative, tended to have a more open outreach and even allowed some fraternizing with non-members.
however, following directions from their leaders in 1959, they suddenly slammed closed the doors, introducing beliefs such as: refusing to eat meals with anyone who was not a member and (this makes me sick) automatically breaking up families if one spouse questioned the authority of the leaders.

Whatever happened to the pioneer-assist program?
by Goldminer in.
i remember about 5 or 6 years ago, they introduced the pioneer-assist program at one of the service meetings.the purpose of of this program was for the spiritually-strong pioneers to go out in service with an r&f member on a weekly basis for about 6 months to help build up others in the congregation.part of this was because in the mid to late 90's a large number of people had become jw's and they wanted to make good publishers with them.. anyways,my wife was quickly signed up as was another young sister down the road.my wife was excited about it and was really hoping to benefit spiritually.within a few weeks though, her pioneer partner started making up excuses why she couldn't go out with my wife until eventually their arrangement just petered out.the young sister down the road was also quickly ditched;the pioneer saying she had to care for her elderly mother(she didn't stop pioneering though).before long the pioneer clique was back to normal and the spiritually-strong pioneers were again going out in service with other spiritually-strong pioneers.i don't recall any updates or the program itself ever mentioned again at the kingdom hall, like it was just a bad experiment or a major burden on the pioneers.. does anyone have any experiences with the pioneer-assist program?
