I lived in Kennewick for a couple of years. I think I went to the south congregation. Late 80's early 90's. I sent you a PM.

Before I ever started questioning seriously I met him while at Bethel in the early 90's and listened to him often at morning worship and remarked several times to others that I thought he was one of the coldest people I had ever met in my life, and that when you looked in his eyes they seemed soulless.
Just my opinion though.

V for Vendetta-similarities in the government and WTBTS?
by gaiagirl injust saw the movie v for vendetta, about a totalitarian government in the near-future england.
somehow it reminded me of the wtbts, in that whenever something happened, they would have the media "spin" it to cast events in the best light for the government, and the worst for whoever else might be involved.
anyone opposed to the government was automatically a criminal, terrorist, etc.

Funny, we just got done watching that movie.
There were definitely some similarities. Although it might be more telling about a current world leader and the status and desires of that political party.
A leader that works his own atonement out through his presidency.
A leader that is solely focused on his goals with little or no regard for political process. (although the leader I am thinking of is starting to come around a little bit - perhaps in appearances only - but who knows.)

Has the WTBTS got wise to the best way to make money?
by Gill inthere used to be several books released at every summer convention.
there also used to be two 'awakes' a month published.. now, there are few books released, only pamphlets and no effort to rewrite the 'revelation book', just a list of changes to 'put in yourself'.
the 'awake' mag is down to one a month.. so...has the wtbts finally realised that there is far more money to be made investing in the property market than there is to be made in printing books to a captive audiance?

I think it has been discussed numerous times on this board how their RELIEF WORK for Natural Disasters is a big moneymaker in that they try to convince every JW they help to donate their FULL CHECK to the Society.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/84971/1.ashx
There have also been reports that the Society has huge interests in the precious stone and precious metal markets in other countries. While I must emphasize that this HAS NOT been proven, there is one fact I do know. There is "at least" one previously high-ranking Bethelite that works just across the river from Bethel in Manhattan who is a power player in that industry. Many Bethelites and friends of the GB are often referred to this man who then walks them into large secured rooms with drawers filled with diamonds. I have a relative that purchased their wedding ring that way.
Of course it could be nothing ;-), but it's almost enough to make me wanna go to Europe and find these companies the Society owns and put together a big expose ... hmmmmmm.
To answer your question more directly, I think they have been wise to the fact their literature is a losing proposition in the long term and they have secretly diversified and spent alot of time putting their money into better moneymakers in other countries and so forth.
Of course, it's just a guess though ...

The JW dress code.....yuck
by JH inthis morning i took a long walk and happened to walk near by a small christian church.
and i could see them come out of the building after their meeting.
they were all dressed differently, some in clean sunday clothes, some in clean jeans, but no one in a suit like the jw's do.

We stopped by a local bakery for breakfast last Saturday before going on a hike and we parked right next to a car that had WT's and literature strewn about the car. I showed FreedomLover, and we rolled our eyes. We walked into the bakery and there they were in their boring grey suits that "kinda-fit-but-not-really" from the Goodwill. Two elder types and a kiss-ass looking ministerial servant. They looked like complete tools and I think people mostly felt sorry for them.
My dad talked about when a couple of JWs came to his house recently out in service. He noticed the guy in a crappy suit with stains all over the lapels on the jacket. He estimates the guy probably hadn't had his suit cleaned in two or three years.
I remember getting sh*t from my PO as a teenager because I was running the microphones without a matching jacket and pants.
It's like everything else the JWs do. It's all about the wrapper - even if they don't wash them at times.

"Or you may wish to investigate some of the evidence yourself and reach your own conclusion."
Did anyone else notice their use of the word "some"?
Why not investigate ALL the evidence ... not just SOME?

Ralph Leaf. Does anyone here know this WT-hired attorney?
by ithinkisee inlet's just say a few years ago members of my family were involved in a court case involving mr. leaf - a wt-hired attorney.
.
just wondering if anyone knew him and/or knew where he is nowadays.

Thanks XJW. I know he exists. I was just wondering if anyone else had dealings with him. He threatened in open court to use millions of dollars of Society money to fight the allegations of "parental alienation".
That was the Society puffing out it's chest and calling the other lawyer's bluff.
Assholes.
