Keep it, but maybe trim it a little.

I grow beards when I get tired of shaving. The best part about cutting them off is people say I look at least 10 years younger. If you are going to cut it off, don't trim it for a couple of weeks beforehand. That way when you shave it off you will look ultra-clean cut.

I've been follically challenged for many years. Finally, a year ago I cut everything down to the scalp. My beard I kept; it makes for an interesting contrast. Wish I had done it sooner.
