You can be disfellowshipped for associating with a disfellowshipped or disassociated individual.
But, an elderly sister contacting her son? Those elders must have sincerely had it in for her.
for having too much contact with her df'd son!.
she's a loyal, long time witness in her seventies, with a "non-believing" husband.
she harms nobody with her bevavior.

those of you that have been around the gb members on a regular basis, do they actually do the door-to-door work themselves, or do they mainly count the talks they give as their field service time?
The simple answer is Yes.
However, as some of them age they are able to go out less and less.
Everyone here inspires and motivates me to stay free and continue to learn.
An earlier post said that many peope here share their very personal struggles and triumphs. The posters who share these things have a special place in my heart.
A toast to all the posters who have ever taken time from their busy busy days and nights to write a personal and thoughtful reply to another poster; someone they may not know nor ever meet.
It's not easy for a fading ex-jw to make friends. This board has become my surrogate family and I cannot wait until I begin attending apostafests so that I can meet my 'family' in person.
barbara anderson has just released a new book on cd that contains some 5000 pages of public court records from the nine lawsuits involving 16 victims that the wts settled secretly in may of this year, plus documents from two other cases the society settled in 2000 and 2006.. .
its called secrets of pedophilia in an american religion: jehovahs witnesses in crisis.. .
the book, and more info from barbara about it, is available here:.
Great job Barbara. I want to personally thank you and all who assisted in this magnificent project.
what kind of things would you put in an affidavit to the court for a custody hearing - list them out in this thread for me so that i can disperse each point across multiple pages, making a strong case.
i will start:.
blood transfusions: - jw children are refused blood transfusions that could save their lives.. how about school sports, flag salute, military service, discouraging college education, keeping "seperate from the world", armageddon teachings, etc.. help we fill in a little wordy description and elaborate on each point in this post - it would be very much appreciated!.
I am fairly certain that the jw spouse can bring the WTS into the battle regardless of what the non-jw does.
In fact, the WTS has a packet they will send out to a jw parent who is fighting a custody battle against a non-jw spouse.
I am pretty sure much of the WTS information is located on the web.
19but a certain man was rich, and he used to deck himself with purple and linen, enjoying himself from day to day with magnificence.20but a certain beggar named laz arus used to be put at his gate, full of ulcers21and desiring to be filled with the things dropping from the table of the rich man.
yes, too, the dogs would come and lick his ulcers.22now in course of time the beggar died and he was carried off by the angels to the bosom [position] of abraham.. also, the rich man died and was buried.23and in ha des he lifted up his eyes, he existing in torments, and he saw abraham afar off and laz arus in the bosom [position] with him.24so he called and said, father abraham, have mercy on me and send laz arus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because i am in anguish in this blazing fire.. my old account does not seem to be working, so i am not a new member but i did not post loads anyway.
i am an now an athiest myself but anytime i ask jws about a scripture they say its pointless discussing it with me becuase i am only doing it to tear them down.
Mondo1,
You said
So is it teaching hell? No. It is a parable. Is it drawing from language that was used by those who believed in hell? Yes, but only because they knew the existing tradition and it fit the message that he was intending. Mondo
I'm no biblical scholar but it doesn't make sense to me that Jesus would use an example in his parable that was based on a teaching he didn't agree with. I'm sure he could have come up with a different parable to explain how important it is to feed the poor, physically or spiritually.
for those who are believers in god and the bible:.
if we have god's grace and have been purchased by jesus shed blood why do we have to be careful not to do the things mentioned in ephesians and elsewhere in order to not be excluded from god's kingdom?.
for example, ephesians tells us not to tell obscene jokes, or commit immorality, etc etc for if we do we will not inherit god's kingdom.
BTT
It's been awhile since this I created this topic and a lot of new christian posters are around.
I would love to hear some thoughts on this topic.
i found this on beliefnet (public post that you don't have to be a member to view):.
i just read the article and unless we're reading two different articles, what i understood isn't exactly what you understood.
let me expand on that:.
The WTS has always excelled at separating their followers from the world via frowning on birthdays, worldy family get-togethers, holidays, after school activities, etc etc.
Now they are reactivating the decades old campaign to separate witnesses from each other by frowning on the following items on congregation gatherings, large wedding receptions, youth parties and now re-emphasizing that study groups are frowned on as well.
It appears that the WTS has determined that the best way to maintain the membership numbers in their organization is to have each member live in a vacuum. As most know, vacuums do not sustain life.
i've been researching prior postings gathering info but mostly reading because i've been 'out' for almost 14 years.
i still have numerous relatives that are still 'in' and when we get together those still in seem to get a sort of kick out of discussing super double secret goings on with 'new light' and changes in the cult.
it's been fun to be able to say, "oh you mean the change in length of the sunday talk?
A hearty welcome to Mr and Mrs Eagle.
I really enjoyed your posts.
Love your idea of cleaning. hahahahaha. That was a good comeback to brother busybody.
