That sounds a lot like that foolishness they told the brothers in WWI, that it was okay to get into the military, go to war, but when it came to battle just shoot your guns into the air. There was supposedly a house cleaning then. Hmmmm.

Voting
by Annanias indantheman just turned me onto the thread that was started last jan over the borg's quantum shift in saying that it is now a matter of conscience as to whether a person can vote.
i was really expecting them to say that the mechanism of voting is okay, but they went way, way beyond that.
the subsequent posts on that thread were very insightful (as usual) but no one seemed to approach the concept of faith in this.

As a JW youth, did you have a shared sense of history with other JW youths?
by truthseeker induring my school years, i was bullied almost every day at school due to my being a jw, and this did nothing for my self esteem and confidence.
compounding this problem, was the fact that i had not a single friend my own age in the kingdom hall, i had no social life and nothing to do at the weekends.
in short, i became a social recluse.. of course, admitting this is hard, and things are very much different now since i moved.. but not having any friends in my old kingdom hall, did not mean there was no one there my own age.

I was in my 20's when I became a JW. I read your posts and I am sitting here crying. I am so sorry that you had to go thru that. My oldest son always seemed to have a few friends, although for a few years while in HS he was used pretty much as a punching bag. Until he had had enough and fought back. He hid the fact from his mother and I for years. I promised myself that my second son would not have to go thru that, but my ex tried to be as adamant with him as well. Josh used to go the KH and just stare at his toes for however long it lasted. I once asked the "elders" to go talk to him, please, because he lights up like a lightbulb when he was given even the slightest attention. They didn't. For Josh, it is too late, but I would appreciate it (in case it might help someone else) if you guys would put together a "survival manual" for other kids in that situation.

toreador - but that is NOT what the WT said. Unless someone was "editing " what I saw. If the CO says that they are going to refute what has been put in print then he's an idiot. The WT said that voting is to be considered "a matter of personal conscience". As one poster said, "I feel so sorry for all those people who were killed in Malawi because they wouldn't accept a political card". What in God's name are you going to say to the children in Malawi who had to grow up parentless? What's next? It's okay to smoke cigarettes, snort coke, screw your way thru as many bedrooms as you can manage because it's just a matter of conscience? "Oh, but if you do that you'll be automatically DAed." BFD! How many people could have avoided Buchenwald, Auswitch, and the other camps by just saying, "Okay, the Nazi's are alright"? They have just taken the Purple Triangle and turned it into toilet paper.
This smells like somebody caved.

DanTheMan just turned me onto the thread that was started last Jan over the borg's quantum shift in saying that it is now a matter of conscience as to whether a person can vote. I was really expecting them to say that the mechanism of voting is okay, but they went way, way beyond that. The subsequent posts on that thread were very insightful (as usual) but no one seemed to approach the concept of faith in this. See, the way that I understood the neutrality aspect was that by being neutral we were declaring that man was incapable of solving his problems and that only Jehovah could. Now, by voting, we are saying that this candidate can solve the problems better than the other guy. In other words, it is unnecessary to put our faith in Jehovah, that, in fact, it does belong to man who is walking to direct his own step.
Follow this logically, what's next after this? Running for office. Hey, a JW would do a less corrupt job, right? And the next step? JW political activists? "Oh, by the way, as long as we're at your door, God would appreciate a vote for George W."
Just a thought.

You are very correct. If someone is trying to make you think that if Jesus were here today he wouldn't speak to you, they are full of sh*t. They are working from the opposite of the shephard who leaves his 99 sheep to go find the one lost one. But in fairness, they have to protect the congo. I understand that they come across in a "controlling" way, but, in a sense, that is the byproduct of leading. If they were perfect, or, at least, better, at it, they would have been able to motivate you to want to do what is supposed to be done. This is the true definition of leadership.
Unfortunately, most "elders" see their job only as judicial executioner as opposed to loving shephard. It's kind of like finding the one sheep that strayed and then, in spite, feeding the damn thing to the lions. (That'll teach HIM!)

This very wealthy lady has just lost her husband and is at the funeral home making arrangements to bury her husband.
"Oh, and I don't want my husband buried in that blue suit he's wearing." she tells the funeral director, "He always looked so much better. Please make sure he's wearing a black suit."
The funeral director is reluctant, so he starts to explain to the lady how much trouble and expenses that it will be to get her husband into another suit and so on when she just pulls out her checkbook and signs a check, leaving the amount blank.
"I'm sure that you'll be able to take care of it." she says, handing the check to the director, and then she leaves.
The next day she comes back and there's her husband all laid out in this fine black suit, and she is just overwhelmed with joy. So she hunts down the funeral director.
"Oh, " she says to him when she finds him, "I just wanted to thank you so much for putting my husband into a black suit. He looks so good. That must have been terribly expensive."
"Well, not really, " the director replies, "It so happened that just after you left another lady came as her husband had just passed away, and he was wearing a black suit. I asked her if she would mind if her husband was buried in a blue suit and she said 'No'. So I switched the heads."

Anyone else like comedian Stephen Wright?
by Makena1 insteven wright, very low key, monotone delivery, but one of my favs.
his mind sees things differently than we do - for example:.
i woke up one morning and all of my stuff had been stolen...and replaced by exact duplicates.

I was once walking alone in a forest and a tree fell right in front of me, and I didn't hear it.
I asked this guy if he knew what time it was and he said, "Y'mean now?"
I went to this covenience store but this guy was locking it up. I said, "Hey. It says 'open 24 hours'." He said, "Yeah, but not in a row."
My typewritter is so old, it types in pencil.
I came home one night and went to unlock my front door but, by accident, I stuck my car key in the lock instead, and my house started up. So I decided to drive around a bit. Pretty soon this cop pulled me over. He came up and asked me where I lived. I said, "Here."
Once I came home and I had the strangest feeling that someone had broken into my apartment, took everything I owned, and replaced it with an exact duplicate. I asked my roommate about it and he said, "Who are you?"

You Will Know By The Love They Have Among Themselves
by Corvin inthe organization of jehovah's witnesses boasts of having true brotherly love for one another.
i always believed they did, although i never felt it growing up in it.
i reckoned that there was something wrong with me since i never felt that "joy" and "spirit of love" that supposedly permeated the congregations.
