The Reign of Amaygadala
by SheilaM ini hope you find this amusing, this short narrative is a "monster telling".
you take a normal thing and with exaggeration make it into a monster.
the amaygadala is the part of the brain that controls anger, impulses etc.

Sheila: LMAO!!!! That was f***in' hilarious! What a terrific portrayal of PMS. You have a wild imagination...I like it! So it is that horrid ol' Amaygadala causing me all of the trouble and the obscene gestures, eh? LOL
You keep on writing, girly!

Sheila, somehow that doesn't surprise me! ;) I'll bet Thunder likes Terry Brooks' stuff, too.
gsx, I agree with you re: the Shannara Series. I believe that Terry Brooks took what Tolkien did and then improved upon it with excellent results. I like Tolkien's stuff, too, but I find that Terry Brooks is an even more exciting and fun read. It would be great if they made movies out of the Shannara Books (only if Terry Brooks wrote the screenplay and had producer status, though ;) ).
Have you guys read Running With the Demon, Knight of the Word and Angel Fire East? I thought those were sort of a departure for him, in a way, but quite enjoyable, all the same! :D

Hey, get this: I live in Lehigh Acres and I know where that citrus grove is located. My mother has volunteered there many times. Also, in 2001, when she went to volunteer, they had her group of volunteers ride in the bed of a pickup. When Mom went to jump down out of the truck, after a long day of volunteering, she landed on the gravel, slipped and broke her arm. She had to go in for emergency surgery (where they had to use metal plates and screws to put the forearm back together), which cost her & Dad a pretty penny.
Dad wanted to sue the Society for damages because of the unsafe way the volunteers were transported and because they never offered to help out at all with the medical costs even after they found out what had happened to my mother (who has been faithful JW for nearly 40 years). Of course, mom would not hear of nor consent to taking legal action against the WBTS. No, she just blamed herself for being too clumsy and said it would be wrong to sue the WBTS for what happened (translation: she was too afraid to take legal action because she could get disfellowshipped for it).
Oh, and the caretakers that I last heard live on that citrus grove/farm are Peter and Kim Winke (not sure if the spelling is correct on the last name). I remember meeting Kim Winke and I definitely could feel the self-righteousness emanating from her. As far as I know, there is no villa located there...YET! LOL

Special Talk in April
by RubaDub inevery year there is a "special talk" given around the end of march or april.
having heard dozens of them over the years, i never quite figured out what was "special" about them.
certainly no "new light" or anything ... just ... well .... the same stuff.. am i correct or not in my observation ???.

The only Special Assembly Day/ Special Talk that stands out in my mind was one that my family attended when I was 11 or 12 years old. It was in Wichita, Kansas and the reason I remember it is because all of the JWs were in a tizzy and warning us about the "apostates" who were outside, trying to talk to the JWs and give us pamphlets.
I remember one "apostate" man trying to talk to my dad as we were crossing the street and I remember asking my dad why we could not listen to them and why were the JWs so afraid of them. It struck me as unfair that we went about witnessing to people and wanted people to stop and listen to us but that the JWs would not listen to these "apostates" who felt that their message to us was just as important. I figured that if we really had the truth, there was nothing to fear in listening to those people or reading their pamphlets. Now that I know the JWs did not and do not have the truth, I can see why they were and are so afraid of "apostates" (people who tell the truth about the Troof). That guy planted a seed of doubt in me way back then and, most likely, did not even realize it!
So, that was my most outstanding Special Assembly Day. The rest of them were just the usual, boring and repetitive stuff and I do not remember too much about them.
