after being a jw for about 27 yrs and giving up old wordly habits...some still lurk at my door..how about you?
which is your choice of badness, i mean the serious df kind...marijuana, smoking, premarital sex, etc...anything creeping back???

since I grew up a witness I never formed any world habits I only coveted them :)
seriously, since I'm a health nut somewhat, I don't smoke, I drink minimally....as far as pre-marital sex well, I'm married to him now so it doesn't really matter :)
the only true worldly so called habit I coveted was to have fun without guilt.......
as of last weekend, two radio stations in my area are devoting all of their air time to christmas music.
from now until dec 25 i can hear christmas music 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and i have two stations to choose from.
i like holiday music but it's already getting tiresome.. devon.
especially when they start playing it constantly so early, by the time Christmas comes, you're just sick of it....

i am currently writing a psych paper, and i decided my topic is going to be jw's and the higher percentage of mental illness in the organization( in not so many words) i have been doing hella research in medical journals, and i would like to pose a request to anyone out there that has information on this subject to pm me or attach it to your response.
i would really appreciate it, and btw, if would be even better if this was from a peer-reviewed journal, because i have already searched all the sites and got the research from freeminds, watchtowerobserver, and sites such as this.

My mother in law talks with food in her mouth....it nauseates me, my husband keeps telling her, 'mom, finishing chewing first and then talk'...'but I'll forget what I wanted to say' she replies. A couple of times food flew out of her mouth.
I really don't like cell phone drivers, especially when they are pulling out of a driveway or at a cross walk and aren't paying attention....I admit, I do occasionally talk on my cell, but never more than 1 minute...not when I'm driving. Or cell phone chatters in a public area, like a waiting room or restaurant (thankfully some restaurants have banned it) on the train, bus...whatever, I don't want to have to hear your conversation.
in the new system (tm) where will all the dead resurrected babies be?
i mean just think about how many aborted fetuses, sid babies, etc.
that have died over the last 6000 years.
I could never figure out how they could articulate as if really knowing the answer and people actually swallowing it? Explanations like these never sat well with me, but was told, Jehovah will take care of it, o.k. than why is the society providing an answer if they don't really know?
Do you remember too how they explained that eventually in the paradise earth, people would no long have babies because the earth would be filled and they would remember the days of the little people.....and Jehovah would make sure we felt fulfilled regardless? Ok...what scripture did they twist to explain that one???
has the internet and forums like these caused an exodus from the j-dubs?
when i left in the early 1990s i met support groups through the yellow pages but it still felt like i was the only one in the world who was an apostate.
i've come to this forum in the last year to browse because my brother has now left.
Waaaaait a minute....brother "devoted"....how devoted are you when you are conversing on a site that I'm certain is quite forbidden by the WT ..... perhaps you are having doubts???? you can be honest....your actions speak louder than your words. You are safe now, you don't have to pretend to be "devoted" anymore.....just tell us why you are here....it's o.k. to think for yourself here and to express yourself....how did you find this site????
remember the kingdom hall bathroom spankings for us kids that did not sit quietly for the meeting?
the threats, the manipulation, the head games, the forced meeting attendance, forced field service activity, forced family wt publication study, the forbidden association with non-jw?s, the berating and chastising for having a thought or idea of your own, the dresser drawer searches looking for music or magazines you were not suppose to have .
you know, the typical jw upbringing .
I didn't know it was normal until I left too. I thought it was for my own good, and it would make me a better witness and that the kids that didn't get spanked would grow up spoiled and bad and destroyed at Armageddon. When I had my daughter at the age of 22, I still was in that mentality and did spank her not quite as extremely as my parents....now 14 years later, 2nd marriage new child....I've found many other ways that work even better, go figure!....There are some great parenting books on the market too...something we never thought to do as a witness, you know read material that contained the 'worldly way' of raising a child correctly.

First of all Minimus I would like to say, you have the best topics, I think I respond to yours more than any others....
In answer to your question, after being DF'd almost 10 years ago, I couldn't stand being around religeous people, there was one guy that tried going out with me that kept trying to get me to come to his church, even gave me a brochure with a note attached about how I needed to find Jesus...that I can't deal with. I don't look down on people like that, but I do wonder why they are so religeous, like are they trying to fill some void, are they lost and crippled souls using religeon as the crutch? I have a Jewish girlfriend that became Orthodox, in view of her background and how she grew up, somewhat of a radical and an extremist...I can't take her religeousness (is that a word?) seriously.
for me it was the realization that there was no "faithful & discreet slave", that all the prophecies "proving" that jehovah's witnesses are the only religion approved by god is bogus and the realization that this is a "cult" and there is no real normal sense of love and affection in the "truth".
When I dared to venture outside of the JW's for friendship, I met two non-JW Christians who were absolutely kind and unconditionally loving. They were spiritually content and beautiful people. It finally clicked that JW's couldn't POSSIBLY be the only ones to be "saved" and it just snowballed from there.
I agree with Nancy, this did it for me...after years of being restricted from having friends outside of the faith. Growing up, I had to befriend these witness girls or were nothing but backstabbers, but hey they were witnesses. Now I see why they don't allow association outside of the faith, because it opens up your mind. I have better friends now than ever before, from all walks of faith...it made me question how could such great people be destined to death at Armageddon?
