i'm a newbie, but have been reading this board for quite a while.
i have never been a jw nor anyone in my family, so i feel like i don't quite fit in with all of you, but hope you'll welcome me.
i have done extensive research and study of the watchtower teachings.
btw nan, if you argue with them and you get nowhere, you are arguing with them wrong =D dont' use things that go against their teachings. use their own ideas and experiences and such. sometimes if they open up to questioning, search this site and ask them a few basic questions (none to set off the alert signal in their heads). its a long and difficult process, but behind every JW there is a good person =D (minus Ted Jaracz, he's just another Rutherford). btw, if they keep on saying that you can't change them, ignore it and keep on slowly persisting. a little pressure every day makes an impression, whereas a lot of pressure all at once doesn't do shit.

yep, welcome. read up and educate yourself becuase they'll come preachin your direction.... best way to talk them out of it is to ask them their experiences at the KH, because that always makes my g/f wonder (she's a baptized JW). because if JW's are supposed to act different, they sure don't seem like it...

i don't think there's many doctrines that JW's recognize that Russell created. Russell didn't create 144,000 (rutherford), or the organization (rutherford), or the earthly class (rutherford), or anything like that. about the only thing russell contributed to JWism was Jesus arrived invisibly in 1874 and Armageddon was going to begin in 1914, heh heh heh.

another instance is that there's this mexican guy at my g/f's congregation that always has to make some comment of her and her friend looking "really good" that nite. the thing is he's 40 and she's my g/f.....
