  Shopping for a new bed

  it looks like my bed had just about had it and it's time to get another one... but i have no idea how to shop for one.

  i've tried looking at review web sites, but there are very few with almost no information.

  something i keep seeing at the stores are the "no turn" mattresses.

  Hi Elsewhere,

  I had a traffic accident a couple years ago and decided to shell out some money and buy a real mattress. I got a King Koil, which is unbelievably comfortable. I'd recommend that brand to anyone.

  Some people followed Jehovah's Organization, and God killed 'em

  gina and i were batting around how the organization calls itself "god's channel" out of one side of their mouth and then reminds everyone that they are "imperfect men" out of the other.

  this allows them to claim a position of authority as "god's organization" while at the same time allowing them to make mistakes and get away with it.

  (1975, "generation", all the flavors of blood, etc).

  I think the leading question into that discussion would be:

  We agree that God's organization sometimes makes mistakes. Do you think Jehovah would ever hold people accountable for following his visible organization, if that organization held incorrect views at the time?

  Most dubs would answer, No, God expects us to follow his organization, even if they are wrong.

  Imagine their surprise when you show them proof that God actually destroyed people for following his organization! That's a pretty damn strong argument. Nice work, Dave!

  I don't have any questions, and I know he's probably heard this many, many times, but perhaps you could convey the sincere gratitude and respect that many of us on this board feel for him. I don't think I'm alone in saying he holds a very high status in my mind, and I send my best wishes. He has helped many, including myself.

  I'm a techie and I'm very interested in alternative fuel sources, but fuel cells have some serious problems that need to be overcome. Yes, hydrogen is abundant, but it is difficult to get alone. Yes, you can extract it from water, but it takes huge amounts of electricity, which, in the United States, is generated mostly by using fossil fuels. Popular Science carried a good article about some of the challenges to fuel cells. Here's the link:

  On a more positive note, researchers in Britain were able to extract hydrogen from biodiesel, which would be cool if it could be done economically, because then the same fuel could be used to power diesel engines and fuel cells. (Sorry I don't have a link on this one.)

  I think eventually we'll move away from fossil fuels as a simple consequence of market economics. As China and India begin consuming on the scale we do in the US, prices will go up. When prices go up, people will look for alternatives. Companies will innovate to fill the demand. So I'm not too worried. We'll get out of this okay. :-)

  i just got hold of a copy of the jws' recent 32-page brochure keep on the watch!

  i'm surprised at some aspects of it, and not at others.. i'm not surprised that it contains much of the same old clap-trap about "the urgency of the times" and "we're so close to the end now!

  " -- the same nonsense they've been spouting for well over a hundred years.

  Wow, thank you, AlanF, for that great summary. Reading through the content, I was overwhelmed by the feeling of limitedness - of reading the same, limited, limiting content, over and over again, with no hope or opportunity to learn anything new - that is such a hallmark of JW life.

  You're right - this brochure is clearly aimed at JWs. I tried to imagine what a non-JW would think, reading this brochure, and the only people who I could possible imagine finding it enlightening would be people who already have elaborite end-time theologies in their head.

  Fascinating stuff. Thanks so much for the analysis.

  i was just wondering if there was anyone else out there whose "friends" came to the elders and told them a bunch of fabricated crap about you before your "meeting with the elders.

  " i had people that i grew-up with tell them that they had "personally seen me beat-up my mom.

  " i had also been known to "host seances" in my parent's basement.

  Well unless there are 2 witnesses to each act the "Good (ha ha) Brothers" should not take those accusations at all seriously.

  Actually, if they have multiple people testify to the same "pattern of behavior," I believe they can use it as evidence.
