The Bible doesn't have a list of do's and don'ts to cover every questionable situation that can occur. For example the principle of doing unto others as you would have them do to you and loving your neighbor are principles that cover a multitude of actions not specifically addressed in the Bible. A Bible trained conscience would aid one to recognize what principles apply to what situations and to try and correctly apply the principles.

My Questions about the US.
by ballistic inmy god, there's going to be so many - so rather than spam the board, i'll put them all here... any help appreciated.. .
what is the best mobile phone (cell phone) to buy when you arrive in the us that has coverage right from the east to west coast and central regions?
the phone itself will get ditched after the trip, i just need one that's cheap to use.

I’ve lived and traveled in the USA all my life (ignore flag icon). I would recommend that you take a few days to visit the area around Oregon and western Washington State. There is so much to see in this area, Mt. St. Helens (active volcano) Mt. Rainier (and many other ice capped mountains), Ho River Rain Forest and the end is almost endless. Whatever you do though, I wish you an enjoyable visit.

Is it My Imagination ?
by LoverOfTruth inis is my imagination so many young jws are dropping dead and no autopsies are done?
last year a young man in his late 30s, perhaps early 40s died.
another ex-jw and i went to the viewing to give our condolences to the family.

You don't think the WTS had anything to do with these deaths do you and then influenced the coroners to cover them up?

Once saved always saved?
by greendawn inat one extreme are people like the jws that we criticise for relying too much on works for their salvation and so they have to live through a lot of anxiety day after day out of fear of failing.
at the other extreme are those that say "i am saved by faith alone, once saved always saved, that's why jesus died for us" and seem to ignore completely the good works factor.
obviously the right balance is somewhere between the two but we need more sophisticated thinking to grasp it than just: i need works to be saved or i need only faith to be saved.

I believe that faith and works are two sides of the same coin as they go hand in hand. Claiming that you have faith is a hollow claim if your actions aren’t there to support it. Works of faith involve much more than preaching the good news (although that is part of it). It has always been my feeling that the kind of works the Bible writers had in mind dealt with the morality of our lives in conjunction with the love and compassion we show others.

From Lurker to Newbie
by Warlock inthis is my first post and it is extremely difficult, but where else can i go?
i'm sure not going to join another religion and most of you have been where i have.
just for the record, i was a drunk, drug addict and dabbler in spiritism when i began studying, which also makes it difficult, because the j.w.

Warlock, you are right, you story is very similar to my own. I am still a JW but since I now use my time as I see fit I don’t actually feel like I’m being used. A question to ask your self is “am I better off now then I would have been if I had never been a JW”? If the answer is yes then now that you are free from the shackles and chains of the WTS you might want to readjust your thinking about having wasted so many years of your life. Look at it as a trade-off and then march forward.

a fly on the wall

I’ll take the self-centered approach. It would have been interesting to hear the Elders' conversations about me after I took back control of my life. Also, I would like to know the truth about a JW acquaintance, the son of a missionary who as an elder abruptly left the organization and swore he'd never be back. I was told that he was viewing pornography of a spiritual nature (maybe learning the truth about yhe truth?).

Do they respect gay rights?
by greendawn ini am not gay and never have been one, but do you think that your local society treats gays with respect or that it has no tolerence for such a sexually different and in the thought of many deviant minority?
.
i personally don't approve of their activities but i can understand that they are genetically predisposed in that way and can't change.

I still think in rural parts of the bible belt that gays are mistreated.
That remark is a slam toward my southern heritage. When a gay is lynched in the south it is done with the utmost dignity!

Was Eve Perfect?
by Sunnygal41 inhello, need some thoughts on this one............this question was presented to me last night and i told the person i'd bring it to the forum and get some of our resident scholars to opine on it.
the reasoning goes that eve did not have full knowledge like adam did, so when she took the fruit, she did so in that context and so, was not perfect, as adam was.

Yes, Eve was perfect! What we must remember though is that perfection as it applies to a woman is different than how it applies to a man. A man's perfection is absolute while a woman's perfection is only relative.

United Nations Member Nations Consideration Implmentation of UN Income Tax
by FairMind inthis morning on the radio news, mention was made that the united nations member nations are considering instituting a personal income tax.
this would be an income tax levied by the un on all of the worlds age earners.
if this is done then imo we are truly on the brink of a new world order under the direction of the un.

If its not mentioned in one of their publications then its not allowed to be mentioned.
Even if it has been mentioned in one of their publications but is old stuff and embarrassing you can get in trouble for mentioning it.
