  I debated with my "devout" JW mom and her JW elders for 5 hours

  as most of you know by now i have told you that my mom has been a "devout" jw for over 40 years and i can't get her to budge.

  well the last time we debated she left me totally confused and in a daze.

  i did some fast research and this past sunday we had a free-for-all debate that lasted 5 hours.

  The good point of it was that we had the debate with her elders in back of the kingdom hall with all of the old books

  No that is the bad point. You were on their turf and outnumbered. They now know you are a nasty old poztate because you don't believe every thing that they say.

  You are in a no win situation when you allow this to happen and I see in fact the conclusion was reached you are a poztate.

  I feel sorry for your situation but nothing will change except "mom" will be encouraged by the elders to take a harder line with you as regards shunning.

  Were the doors locked at your KH, during meetings?

  i remember a time when the brothers locked the doors during a meeting.

  if you arrived late, they had to come and unlock the door to let you in.

  i also remember a time when they weren't locked.

  I didn't attend since so long, that I don't remember if they do lock the doors during meetings these days.

  I think it depends on the area...high crime etc..

  It would be a good idea to lock up at all KH's. You would have to beg an elder to unlock and let you out.

  It would keep the attendance figures up for the last half of the snooze fest.

  Clarifying the new policy regarding DF'd and DA'd announcements

  i read that in the new organized to do jehovah's will book coming out in march at the kh, elders will on say sister so and so is no longer one of jw's.

  an elder that i work with said that they will announce from now on joe bloe has been disfellowshipped from the christian cong and is no longer a jw.

  or jan bloe has disassociated herself and is no longer one of jw's so they are still going to say df and da but i think they are going to drop the part "conduct unbecoming of a christian" because this can get them into legal trouble when a person goes to the military or votes or takes a blood transfusion.

  I think your elder is confused.

  They are all confused but I do believe the policy is to simplify. No more DA'in or DF'en you. No tellin what you were DF'ed for(long time ago) .... Just.....Joe Blow is no longer one of jehoovers whitlesses.

  The part about treating you like shit for the rest of your life unless you come crawling back remains the same.

  Why www.watchtower.org?

  just was wondering today, why is the official jw website www.watchtower.org?

  why not use the magic word "jehovah" in the website name?

  why use the name of a single publication when jw's are supposed to be a "people for god's name"?

  Is the Society sending literature in the mail again?

  i have not read an 'awake' magazine for a couple years, but i have the feb 8, 2005 issue in front of me.

  in looking at the advertizement for the young people ask book, on the back cover, i see something that seems different from years past.

  there is a coupon like they used to use in which you can put your name, address, ect.

  Does this mean that they will just send the book? It would seem unbelievable that if it is hand delivered there would be no attempt to start a study with the one requesting.

  I think they word it in this way to give the impression that it will be mailed out to you.

  WRONG...It will be hand delivered by some poor dub who will start sniffing around to see if you are BS (book study) inclined.

  Does the Governing Body Have Any Real Friends They Can Trust Now?

  i would think with all that the governing body is faced with that they must feel some form of isolation even at bethel.

  they must worry all the time that soon thier little world will come crashing down especially with the brutal exposer the internet is providing.

  i'm also sure that they wonder who will be the next to turn states evidence against them in some legal case they face now or in the furure.. with all the very clear information on the internet exposeing the governing body thate soon some higher up will get deprogramed that have been privy to some very damaging information perhaps from the accounting or the legal department that could send thier asses to jail.

They must feel very lonely and worried at all they see disintergating before thier eyes.

  About the parking lot fiasco I know Mulan would have the inside info as I believe it was the Tacoma Dome where they were charging a parking fee to the bros to help out the bottom line.

  Last night at the book study 5 minutes spent on discussion about apostates

  things that were said.

  apostates want everyone to believe jehovah doesnt care about them and this was referred to as a satanic lie that apostates want you to believe and this satanic lie was even referred to in the prayer.

  (i really dont know where they got this or what exactly caused the society to publish this but this is what was said in the "draw close to jehovah" book).

  Surely that also applies the other way as well: The more the Watchtower talks about apostates and the internet, the more power they give us.

  They are scared s*itless of us nasty old poztates. The balance of power will never shift back to them and they know it. They are on a downward spiral. The only problem is it is not fast enough..

  Nursing Mom's and Meetings

  does anyone here remember nursing their babies at the meetings and/or assemblies before the laws that protected the ability to do so in public were passed in the us?

  was it any easier to do in other parts of the world?.

  another post that i was on triggered a memory of something that happened in the late 60's???

  two members of the gb... in canada were on the platform.they obviously knew each other quite well.

  one offered to the other that he was good for a....can't remember the (insult brit type) laugh that was raised but even then i thought it was out of line.

  Thanks for the replies...Maybe I read too much into this comment. I just thought two governing body members might be a little bit more sensitive to issues like this. I guess they were no different than anybody else at the time.
