Mom is 84, her life is like a tv show I saw about Jim and Tammy Bakker and the PTL Club, religion keeping old timers happy (and sending in the $$$) Mom has her meetings, during the day, study, phone witnessing and now, a la PTL club, JW TV!! So, surprise, surprise, when we talk what does she have to talk about? And as I'm inactive I'm pretty she counts time as well! So what do I do? Just shut up and try to be a good son and let her talk, I never engage and she doesn't expect it, I figure I'll be glad I let her go on after she's gone :0)

Dealing with Elderly Parents Who Still Believe the jw Religion is the truth
by lancelink ini left the religion back in 2008 right after my mother died,( the total lack of natural love/ affection was the final straw for me).. but my dad has become more and more focused on doing the wt bidding.. it just amazes me how he gushes on and on about the last days, his new bible studies, and meeting parts .
but yet he makes no effort to have any type of relationship with his grandkids, there are 5 of them , non are witnesses.
they are the children from several different sisters of mine, and myself.. so how do you deal with the witness stuff always being presented in conversations?.

New Here
by Red.tomato inhi everyone, this is my first post .. it takes a little bit of courage to do it, i have to admit and even thought i have been lurking for some time as time goes by it gets more and more difficult to keep attending meetings and just been around the friends in the congregation.
ever since i learned about the arc something inside of me just broke and it feels pretty hollow, now i pay attention to every single form of manipulation in every direction, what difference it makes with the catholic church or with any other religions ?
i wonder why the publishers are under obligation to report about their lives and decisions to the elders but they don´t keep informed the congregation about what´s going on legally other than russia.

Welcome red.tomato
I'm a 60 year old man and my parents were jws when I was born, I grew disillusioned over the years as I learned more about their origin and history and experienced first hand their false predictions, I would like to recommend two things: Go to jwfacts.com there's a lot of good info there and as well try to make friends in the community, sadly you will lose your jw friends once you stop attending,
All the best and hope to hear from you again,
Tepid :0)

Is JW.org unbreakable
by UnshackleTheChains ini ask this question for good reason.
let's face it, despite all the books, videos, forums, court cases, hearings, protests etc that have been exposing the society for many years.
jw.org continues to roll on almost 'it seems' unscathed.. for example, just walk into any kingdom hall there is not so much as a whisper about anything that has been exposed outside of jw land.

Splinter groups from 100 years ago still exist such as Millenial Dawn and Bible Students, how do you break an ideology? :0)

There was talk many years ago that in a ban there would be no need to meet in a KH as Heb 10:24,25 "commands" meeting together, but says nothing about a building or the size of the gathering, also Jesus talked about meeting even in groups as small as two and three,
This isn't making any sense,
What gives?

DA myself to relieve great pressure?
by Isambard Crater inmy lifelong mental illnesses, fuelled significantly by the borg, are very bad at the moment and result in me missing lots of midweek meetings, but i haven't missed a sunday in years except the occasional vacation.. the nature of my mental and emotional illnesses mean that i, as a physically in and mentally out pimo, take to heart very painfully admonishment from the platform to never miss meetings, preach all i can, and so on.. okay, i report 3 hours each month on average and no elder has ever said anything, but when they make comments on the platform, i feel such great guilt and shame, but also anger, as they do not understand my illnesses and when i do mention my situation to elders, they kind of minimise and joke about it.. some other sisters in my congregation started "officially" not attending midweek meetings a few year's ago because of their own health circumstances, but i know for a fact that some elders look down on them for this reason, not showing real understanding deep down even if they do on the surface.. i have reached the point where i want to hand in a da letter as a cry for help, or more like a clear indicator to them that when i say i'm not well enough to attend midweek, i really mean it and it's not just an excuse.
sure, i'm only 42, but i can still be too fragile to go out at night with a 30 minute drive both ways..

Hi, mental health issues worsen with stress, you know what YOU find stressful, you need to avoid or lessen these things in your life, what things do you find helpful in managing your stress? maybe reading or watching a peaceful TV program, walk outdoors often, Club Houses for those with mental health issues might be available in your area, Here's a site that many have found helpful: 7cups.com
All the best to you,

I don't remember his name and I think he just had one visit with me before I moved, but what struck me was this: At the time when COs were all getting new leased cars, this fellow was driving an old clunker! I asked him about this and he just didn't feel right driving around in a new car being supported by the brothers, Wow! This man was bucking the Society!! He seemed really nice, spent the day just me and him :0)

2017 International Regional Convention, Toronto – Entertainment at Sony Centre
by SAHS ini’ve been hearing from several very reliable sources that there will be an exclusive elite gala entertainment event hosted by the watch tower organization, featuring specially chosen jehovah’s witnesses of outstanding talent as well as spiritual reputation, at the sony centre (formerly called the o’keefe centre) in toronto, ontario (canada) as a special “after hours” addition to the 2017 special international convention.. those chosen have to meet very strict criteria, including, not so much technical and popular talents, but, rather, their spiritual maturity which can be easily and practically related to by the audience (i.e., degree of conformity – you know what i mean!).
a notable and very well-known professional “super star” from some other country (i don’t know which one) who has achieved highly recognized and popular talent was surprisingly not chosen to participate in the extra entertainment program, whereas other performers with rather ho-hum musical abilities ended up being selected, ostensibly for their altruistic and “theocratic” qualities.
(something tells me that there is going to be some jealousy and indignant, hard feelings over this rather authoritarian, arbitrary selection process.

Of course this completely goes to the head of all involved, My aunt was involved in the 1978 Drama, she worked on custumes, the convention crowd was 60,000, I looked out at the stage and saw the cast seated, and there was my aunt seated with them, maybe they needed an emergency seamstress, I wondered about this over the years, maybe they should've had a medic as well in case someone scraped their knee (sarcasm sorry) :0)

What is behind your choice of forum user name?
by stuckinarut2 injust curious how we all think.. what prompted or influenced your choice of username for this forum?.
there are some really amazing names, and it would be great to hear the stories behind them.... mine was nothing fancy.
i just felt "stuck in a rut too" along with so many others.

I did,
He was publicly drunk on a number of occasion, chronic lier to boot, he was off for a couple of years and then back on, I was thinking after that, how could I ever take seriously anything this guy says again, not because of the drinking, but because of the lying, it's not like he was sorry, :0)
