Would You Not Be Friends With Someone Because They Are Gay?

I wrote this in a topic back in June.

I guess education takes time for those willing to be educated. One thing that has helped me immensely is having two dear friends who are lesbian and nothing in their lifestyle would make me drop them as friends. Then a little less than a month ago a male friend I have had for almost 8 years confided in me that he is gay. He said that I'm someone he could trust talking to. I would have never known it since he has never said or done anything to make me suspect. That made me think too! He is my friend and I'm not about to drop him because he is gay. And I will not betray his trust in me.

At one time (as a loyal JW that is) I would have said that this is gross and unnatural too! My eyes have been opened even more than I might realize at times. I have learned more about love for my fellow humans in the past several years than I learned in a lifetime as a JW.

I can give a lot of the thanks to this forum and those who have tolerated my sometimes crude and uneducated answers.

I chose my friends because of who they are on the inside.. their hearts.. their loyalties to friends, etc..

their sexual orientation has absolutely no bearing on whether to be friends with them or not..

Playing twister might take on a different 'twist' but..

I think gay guys look most gay when they are having sex.

So, not only do I NOT have any gay friends, but I have never seen a gay man having sex. What sort of sheltered life have I led????

rent some early episodes of queer as folk US version. that will give you a "taste" of gay sex.

I'll pretend to be a gay man having his first straight experience and you can watch. How's that?

Um, just saying that made me feel odd.

No, that's ludicras.....when I was a teen in Dubville, my first "boyfriend" was also a dub. He was a really sweet guy, we had a lot of fun...he was very musically talented, he even wrote poems and put music to them. We dated for a couple months, and we even talked of marriage in the future. Then we broke up, he moved away and nobody heard from him again until his lover called to say he had died. Needless to say, his family was absolutely stunned and so was I. We had no clue that he was a homosexual , and we were so saddened by his death. He was a wonderful friend, and I really miss him. I also have a young male cousin, who is gay, and my husband has a female cousin who is gay. They are the nicest people, and very talented I might add. They do not bother me, or frighten me....they can be the best you friend you wish you had.......

How did I know some folks would turn this simple thread into a debate about orientation, civil liberties and religious tolerance!

I think the important lesson for all is to be friendly with friendly people and let people alone.
